Romney to pull story of slain
Navy SEAL from campaign speeches

Mitt Romney will no longer reference having met one of the former Navy SEALs who died in the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi after a complaint from the slain soldier's mother, the campaign confirmed Wednesday. On Tuesday, Romney began telling the story of a chance meeting with Glenn Doherty, the former SEAL, at a Christmas party in San Diego. Romney told the story again Wednesday during a town hall meeting in Mt. Vernon, Ohio.(Snip) But Tuesday night, Doherty's mother complained to the NBC affiliate in Boston that Romney was politicizing her son's death.

This is what a classy, honest person does. Can you imagine how Barry would have handled this.

It's not that the story is untrue. It's just that it upset the mother to hear it repeated. Meanwhile, the 0bama campaign uses any story it wants repeatedly despite complaints or outright theft.

Compare and contrast!!!!!! This is a class act by Mitt!! Unlike the Wone, who says he will not pull out big bird from his ad.

Read the comments after the article.

There are some really messed up liberals out there.

Romney will not mention him again.

Fine... his Mom can vote for the other guy..the guy whose administration failed to help her son when help was sought. Sounds like a pretty bad choice.

I will bet my next paycheck that MSNBC will have no trouble repeating this story ad nauseum. Talk about politicizing it!

#2, the only reason the mother is upset is because she's a democrat.

Hey would you rather Obie talk about it?

I agree in not politicizing it but do you think that if Obie thought for one second he could get some positive traction he wouldn't use it? On the contrary, he caused it!

Romney decides not to use the topic anymore.
Obama has a movie made about his 'big' part in it.

...and the SEAL's sister has no problem with it. Guess which opinion will be the only one anyone knows about?

But Romney did the right thing.

Reply 10 - Posted by: killerbee, 10/10/2012 4:11:25 PM     (No. 8923716)

If asked about him again, Romney should just say that he stands by what he said, that it was an honor to meet him. But it causes the family (well, some in the family) pain to hear about him.

The criticism of the Libya debacle still stands. Odd how the day it really hits the fan in the media, and they have no choice but to report it, some little affiliate manages to get some unflattering quotes about Romney.

SQUIRREL!

#6 is right...when you read the article, you can't help but get the impression it's all about politics to her.
When she states "I don't trust Romney. He shouldn't make my son's death part of his political agenda. It's wrong to use these brave young men, who wanted freedom for all, to degrade Obama." it pretty much confirms it.
Sorry about his death...but it could have been prevented Mr. Doherty. If only they had listened.

God Bless this poor woman. It is sad that now her Son's death will be exploited by the liberal media, and that is more to her liking. Forget the wishes of her son, a Navy SEAL, who was more than likely as disgusted with Obama as the rest of the SEALS. Its all about her.

Reply 14 - Posted by: oriton, 10/10/2012 4:37:55 PM     (No. 8923788)

Some people just don't understand the SEALs, even family members.

The SEALS mother sounds like Cindy Sheehan. (Who now resides under a bus somewhere.)

Well, a grateful nation most certainly thanks her for her family's sacrifice. No mother should have to lose child, especially in such a senseless act of violence. But now, instead of quietly asking Mitt to drop it, which he no doubt would have, she has put herself in a position to allow the Dems and the lib media will politicize her son's death.

Romney should really have known better. He lived with these lunatics for four years.

It is a shame her son had to die because of an incompetent administration. However, this woman is making it political, not Romney. Romney was honoring his service, she is detracting from it by making it an issue because she supports Obama. Would be interesting to know if her son supported Obama.

Reply 19 - Posted by: JAN, 10/10/2012 5:23:51 PM     (No. 8923912)

Romney was referring to the SEAL murdered in Benghazzi.

The mother who complained had a son murdered in Afghanistan.

Yes the Mother did make it political. So sorry for the death of her brave son, but there is something entirely wrong with a mother who uses this to attack Romney. She should be blaming the person whose administration allowed these deaths to happen. Barack Hussein Obama...

Reply 21 - Posted by: butch, 10/10/2012 6:27:56 PM     (No. 8924034)

The fallen Navy SEAL's mother got more respect from Mitt Romney, who had only kind and respectful words for her brave fallen son, than she ever got from "Commander in Chief" Barack Obama, who sent her a form letter of condolence.

Mitt Romney = Class Act

#19, I think you are mixing up different stories. This woman was the mother of the slain retired Marine killed in Benghazi. And yes, she is the one turning it political.

Typical liberal, she wasn't to upset to speak to the media about Romney. Perhaps she's already gotten her just deserts (and don't care if that sounds mean I'm sick of liberals)

Reply 24 - Posted by: athina, 10/10/2012 7:25:59 PM     (No. 8924150)

Well, especially since his death is so recent, I think the campaign should have asked the family if they minded if Romney told this story, in the first place. That would have been the proper thing to do. It is a political campaign speech, after all, not a Memorial Day speech or something of that sort.

Reply 25 - Posted by: TXknitter, 10/10/2012 7:54:46 PM     (No. 8924223)

#6 is right. Most grieving mothers would have very much appreciated the honorable way Mitt spoke of her hero son. For Democrats, politics trumps everything sometimes.

The fallen SEALS wife was honored the Gov. paid tribute to her husband. In fact, he called HER to ask if he might recount the story. That he called to ask permission makes him a first class guy in my book. The mother was more than like po'd she did not receive a similar call...so she did what she did. What else would one expect from a liberal? Jealously on the mothers part....JMHO

#25, it has been reported in the media that someone in the Romney campaign did talk with the guys' sister and she had no problem with Romney mentioning her brother. Obviously the guy's mother thinks differently, and Romney did the right thing by honoring her concern by just not talking about his meeting with the guy anymore.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus grew a bit testy during his Morning Joe appearance on Thursday as the other guests — John Heilemann in particular — challenged his assertions regarding the IRS scandal. Right from the start, Heilemann objected to Priebus inferring guilt from IRS official Lois Lerner‘s using her Fifth Amendment right. Lerner didn’t do herself any favors by choosing not to answer any questions at yesterday’s congressional hearing, Priebus argued — “which, whether you agree with it as a basis of law or not, implies there are some criminal aspects of this investigation.”

A new book out in Germany reveals how President Kennedy was a secret admirer of the Nazis. The news comes embarrassingly close to a visit being paid to Berlin next month by President Obama - one week before 50th anniversary commemorations of JFK´s memorable ´Ich bin ein Berliner´ speech pledging US solidarity with Europe during the Cold War. President Kennedy´s travelogues and letters chronicling his wanderings through Germany before WWII, when Adolf Hitler was in power, have been unearthed and show him generally in favour of the movement that was to plunge the world into the greatest war in history.

The IRS scandal smoking gun?

COLLEGE PARK, Md- In the Internal Revenue Service targeting scandal and others, Washington and the media are obsessed with the question: What did the president know and when did he know it? That misses the point. Barack Obama´s presidency is much more damaging to the nation than the mistakes of subordinates now coming to light. Most recently, we learned Obama met with anti-Tea Party IRS Union President Colleen Kelley just before the tax agency began targeting conservative groups. Is that the smoking gun? Was the president in on the plan to harass opponents of big government?

WASHINGTON - Three days of congressional hearings about the Internal Revenue Service´s targeting of conservative political groups have lawmakers looking for ways to widen an investigation that has so far been largely contained within the tax collection agency. More than 11 hours of testimony and an inspector general´s report have revealed plenty of wrongdoing within the IRS. But so far, investigators have not produced evidence that anyone outside the IRS authorized the targeting, or even knew about it before a few weeks ago. They will keep trying. Three congressional committees are investigating the matter, and the leaders of those committees

A Wall Street Journal editorial socks it to the president and his hands-off management style. Every day brings new revelations about who knew what about the IRS targeting conservative groups during President Obama´s re-election campaign, but the overall impression is of a vast federal bureaucracy run amok. While the White House continues to peddle the story of a driverless train wreck, taxpayers are being treated to a demonstration of the dangers of an unwieldy and unaccountable administrative state. Look, Ma, no hands! In his press events, Mr. Obama has said that while he learned about the Cincinnati rogues

Former Rep. The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.
