State Dept. says it never
concluded Libya attack
was a film protest gone awry

WASHINGTON — The State Department now says it never believed the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, was a film protest gone awry, giving congressional Republicans new fodder for criticizing the Obama administration’s initial accounts of the assault. The State Department’s extraordinary break with other administration offices came in a department briefing Tuesday, where officials said “others” in the executive branch concluded initially that the protest was based, like others in the Middle East, on a film that ridiculed the Prophet Muhammad.

Comments:
So in other words, for the sake of a now failed cover story, the administration's PR campaign about this video in effect caused the still continuing firestorm of islamic violence across the world?

This piece seems to be the same AP story posted earlier with a different headline. Staff feel free to close.

They never believed it... but they said it anyway.

Gee. There used to be a word for saying things you did not believe. What was it?

The first thing President Romney should do is to purge the state department, and shut down AID. (a separate discussion, but they stink too.)

Hillary's cookie pushers cover their posteriors.
Obama kept up the lie for 4 weeks to cover up the security scandal the got our Ambassador killed in Benghazi.

Obama is not just delusional about the debate, he is delusional about foreign policy.

Doesn't Susan Rice work for the State Department? Or does she report directly to the White House?

Reply 9 - Posted by: JAN, 10/10/2012 10:06:49 AM     (No. 8922687)

So they blame the film before they didn't blame the film.

But then they blamed Romney for speaking out against their lie.

#3 - you could be more right than wrong with that. Frankly I think there should be a class action suit against the media in this country for deceiving the public and being fully complicit in hiding the background of Obama and supporting and covering up for an administration that has torn us apart as a country and put us in this terrible state racially, financially, militarily and diplomatically.

@#8: Nobody in Obama`s Regime reports to the WH. Obama has never had a single cabinet meeting in 4 years. The department heads do what they want as long as they adhere to the socialist agenda.

Vice President Biden hit the game show circuit this week, appearing Thursday on Jeopardy. Under the quiz show´s time-honored format, Biden provided the answers for questions about the first vice president to serve (John Adams), the first vice president to resign (John C. Calhoun), the first veep to ascend to the presidency (John Tyler), and the fact that the veep´s official residence is at the Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C. Biden also provided the clue for a Daily Double: "The vice president is a member of the board of regents of this, ´America´s attic.´" The question: "What is the Smithsonian?"

First lady Michelle Obama hung out with a "big time star" and jammed to the Godfather of Soul, but brought a serious message to students at a once-troubled Washington elementary school Friday.(snip)The first lady toured a pre-K classroom and a fifth grade arts class during her visit. In the pre-K class, she joined the four and five-year-olds in a game where they dance, and freeze in positions shown on flash cards when the music stops. She spent about 15 minutes in the class, dancing to James Brown´s "Gonna Have Funky Good Time".

Not to fear, America -- she´s been placed on "administrative leave," a terribly severe form of discipline that´s effectively tantamount to paid vacation. (snip)Lerner, the director of the IRS exempt organizations office in Washington, D.C., signed cover letters to 15 conservative organizations currently represented by the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) between in March and April of 2012. The letters, such as this one sent to the Ohio Liberty Council on March 16, 2012, informed the groups applying for tax-exempt status that the IRS was “unable to make a final determination on your exempt status

Did Obama Forget to Salute?

The president may have forgotten something as he boarded Marine One this morning. On his way to the U.S. Naval Academy graduation ceremony on Annapolis, Md., President Obama didn’t return the salute of the marine standing guard at the door of Marine One, as he climbed the steps to the helicopter cabin. Obama soon ducked his head out, waved to the pilot, and jaunted back down the stairs to address the marine, shaking his hand. In the short video clip, one can’t hear the two men talking, so it’s unclear what exactly was said.

Put aside the politics, and the question of who-knew-what-when. There are two policy problems highlighted by the controversies at the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Justice. The first is the growth of 501(c)(4) groups into vehicles for anonymous and unlimited political spending. The second is the Obama administration’s overzealous prosecution of leaks. Unfortunately, for those who would like to see these policy problems resolved, the wrong party is angry about them and the wrong party is complacent.

She had to endure the public humiliation of his sexting scandal, but now it turns out that Anthony Weiner’s wife was the driving force behind his comeback. Huma Abedin put her feelings of betrayal aside and backed her husband to run for mayor of New York in this year’s election. She has also been working her close connections to the Clinton family to get Mr Weiner access to wealthy and powerful donors who he so badly needs. Having been frozen out of politics when he quit his Congressional seat, Mr Weiner is now effectively relying on his wife

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

Anthony Weiner’s New York mayoral candidacy was only made more improbable today after he revealed that he visited a Houston psychiatric facility following his resignation from Congress in 2011. Haunted by scandal surrounding his sexually explicit online communications with women, the Democratic former congressman sought treatment for his compulsive behavior from mental health professionals at the Gabbard Center. According to its website, the facility provides “3-day outpatient psychiatric evaluation,” particularly to “professionals who are in personal or professional crises.” While Weiner did not disclose

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.
