Biden-Ryan debate highlights
nation's Catholic political divide

Dubuque, Iowa — Dr. Jack Dolehide remembers the trinity on display in his boyhood home in Chicago in the 1960s: There, in the center, was an iconic image of Jesus. On one side, Mayor Richard J. Daley, the city's legendary Democratic boss. On the other, President Kennedy. Then one day about 1969 or '70, the unthinkable occurred. Dolehide's father took down the politicians' portraits, ripped them into pieces and threw them away. He had become a Republican. Today, Jack Dolehide, 57, is a well-established physician in Dubuque and among many Catholics who plan to vote for Mitt Romney

Catholic Christians put Our Savior before men, especially politicians. We pray to the Lord, not to Jack Kennedy. We pray for the Saints' intercession on behalf of the soul of the late alcoholic woman abuser/killer Teddy Kennedy. We don't pray to Teddy.

Catholic Democrats, especially the non-thinking party-line type put politicians before God and politics before faith and dogma. That's why they listen to life-affirming homilies on Sunday and throw their support to Nancy Pelosi and unrestricted abortion and infanticide when Mass is ended. They pray for social justice and vote for programs that purport to accomplish this through covetousness and greed by program adminstrators.

Most Catholics have seen this disconnect and division for decades now. Focusing on God's word rather than that of any politician will mend the divide, but fewer and fewer seem willing to do this.

If you haven't already discovered Fr. Sammy Maletta on Youtube, here's a link to the website of his church. This is one on-fire Catholic priest who is deeply involved as a canon lawyer in the health care and religious liberty debates. This guy is beyond brave: http://www.stjohnparish.org/homilies.php (click on the first homily listed).

#4, thanks for the link. I'm posting it on FB so that my family and friends can benefit by Fr. Sammy's homilies.

The Church is full of imperfect people for we are all sinners striving to be saints. There have been many in the hierarchy that have made mistakes, and have hurt the Body of Christ.

That being said, I believe that now that Obama with his health plan has forced our Bishops to finally take a stand against the Democrats and their policies; they are now asking us all to stand with them.

This is a departure from those who believe that social justice is more important than the right to life. We must put aside our differences as Catholics and stand united for the freedom that has been granted to us by our founders and stand for life.

I don't believe that you can be a Democrat and a Catholic at the same time. One of the reasons I gave up on the Catholic church is that they allow abortionists like Nancy Pelosi and John Kerry to dwell among them. Another is all of their confusion and drift over homosexuality, sexuality in general, feminism, and socialism.

Biden stands for government (marxist)tyranny. Ryan stands for constitutional individual liberty. Which one do you want?

BTW.....Marxism and Catholicism are incompatasble.

The Obama administration exhibits real animosity for Catholic institutions through their unconstitutional HHS mandates which deny the basic religious freedoms our founders fought for. They use people like Biden and Sebelius for cover with Catholics.

Unfortunately for them Catholics aren't buying what they're selling anymore. We don't care how much ice cream Biden quietly delivers to little old nuns. Funny how it still ended up being reported. I bet Biden was miffed and wanted that kept secret and everything.

Very similar post in the Washington Post today, talked about the divide. They highlighted how Biden had questioned transubstantiation while in school (and apparently was praised for it...not sure by who -- no one Catholic should have). And said his mother told him he'd better not kiss the Pope's ring when he met him (didn't explain why).

Not sure why he self identifies as a Catholic.

Her eyes are transfixed as she struggles to prise away the powerful hand squeezing around her throat. Glamorous TV cook Nigella Lawson looks stunned to be attacked by her art collector husband Charles Saatchi during a vicious row at their favourite London restaurant. Fellow diners and passers-by at Scott’s in Mayfair were shocked to see the advertising multimillionaire reduce his celebrity wife to tears. Saatchi launched a tirade of angry words. Four times he grasped her around the neck with Nigella, 53, looking powerless and petrified. At first he used only his left hand, then both.

U.S. and Israeli defence chiefs on Friday reaffirmed cooperation to counter threats from Iran and condemned the alledged use of chemical weapons by Syrian government forces. U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and his Israeli counterpart Moshe Yaalon reiterated during a meeting that the two allies "will continue to work together to counter threats posed by Iran and remain prepared for a range of contingencies," said Pentagon spokesman George Little in a statement. Millions of Iranians voted to choose a new president on Friday, with prospects unclear whether the country will continue hardline diplomacy especially with the West on nuclear issues.

The Israeli defense minister said Friday there is no peaceful solution for Syria in sight, just hours after the U.S. announced a newly invigorated policy toward the two-year-old civil war. Minister Moshe Ya´alon, the former chief of staff to the Israeli Defense Forces, said he cannot predict the outcome of the internal conflict that has caused 90,000 deaths in Syria, according to U.N. estimates, despite the White House announcement Thursday that it would begin new military and diplomatic policies in response to the regime´s use of chemical weapons. 52 days after an Israeli general publicly declared that Syria has used chemical weapons against rebels, the Obama administration reached the same conclusion, and used the finding to justify announcing it would send small arms to the side of the victims. “I will not say ‘We told you so,’ only, okay, the proof is there, so there’s no more question about it,” says Israeli foreign ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor, taking with a smile the easy part of the equation now laid before Israel. As for the hard part: “Now, what should be done? It’s not for Israel to say,

How legalising prostitution has turned

Documentary-makers in Germany have claimed that legalising prostitution has turned the country´s capital Berlin into ´Europe´s biggest brothel.´ Sex trade laws were radically liberalised by the German government in 2002 but a documentary called Sex - Made In Germany estimates that one million men pay for sex every day. The film was based on two years of research captured using hidden cameras and explores Berlin´s world of ´flat-rate´ brothels where customers pay €49 (£42) for as much sex as they want. (Snip) It is thought that around two thirds of the country´s 400,000 sex workers come from abroad.

Pope Francis has acknowledged the existence of a ´gay lobby´ inside the Vatican´s secretive administration for the first time. Speaking during an audience with Latin American Catholics, the Argentine Pontiff said that there was a ´current of corruption´ in the Roman Curia - the central governing body of the Catholic Church. He also admitted the existence of a long-rumoured ´gay lobby´ in the Curia, and hinted that he might take action over the issue. A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

As NewsBusters reported last week, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin called out vulgarian comedian Bill Maher for referring to her Down Syndrome son Trig as "retarded." An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

Marco Rubio. Paul Ryan. The IRS. Illegal immigration. And fraud to the tune of billions.. Now there’s a combustible mix. Let’s start with the IRS, illegal immigration and fraud. We’ll come back in a minute to Senator Rubio and Congressman Ryan. For those who came in late, a year before the IRS scandals burst onto the scene in early May of 2013, an alert investigative reporter for WTHR-Indianapolis (Channel 13), Bob Segall by name, produced a stunning piece of journalism. Segall’s video report is found here and we will quote from his story for the basics.
