| (CNN) -- A former senator vs. a congressman. A Catholic vs. a Catholic. A policy wonk vs. an experienced speaker. The elements are in place for an interesting debate between Vice President Joe Biden and Rep. Paul Ryan. And Sunday marked Round II of the expectations game, as campaign advisers and surrogates sought to set the stage for Thursday's showdown.

Comments: All you saints and angels pray for Mr. Ryan. All you children for whom I held vigil the day you died, please go stand before the throne of God and pray for Mr. Ryan. As for Mr. Biden, a Catholic who betrayed you to death, maybe try to catch his eye during the debate. Be there somewhere, in the folds of the curtains, in the corner of the room.

So which one is Joe Biden supposed to be?
A Policy Wonk? An experienced speaker?
I still don't see anything that described Joe, since buffoon wasn't listed...

Judging from media coverage lately Biden is nothing more than a 'dirty old man'. That just about says it all.

In a regular election year the VP debate might not carry much weight but I think things have changed. obama did so poorly that a lot of dems are hoping biden takes his meds before the debate and at least shows up looking sane. While Ryan should not be arrogant and think he can take biden down easily I do believe that Ryan will probably clean biden's clock. I am looking forward to the debate with bells on.

I take umberage at the Democrat meme of "Catholic vs. Catholic". Biden is no Catholic. He can tell the press he is and walk around with Rosary Beads in his hands, but someone who advocates the wholesale killing of the innocent unborn is nothing more than a savage, unrepentant, evil person. I don't know what church, if any, that Biden goes to, but if I were the Pastor at that church, I would refuse to give him Communion because he is living in a state of mortal sin.

With more than half of U.S. states experiencing high levels of flu-like illness -- and flu activity continuing to rise, ERs across the country are seeing a surge in business -- and some are struggling to keep up. Currently, 29 states and New York City are reporting high levels of influenza-like-illness (ILI), and another nine states are reporting moderate levels of ILI. This season, 18 children have died from flu-associated deaths. This year's predominant flu (76 percent) is very similar to a type that caused a severe season in 2003-2004, when the flu shot wasn't a good match and there were more than

So Obama won. Quel surprise. A lot of buzz last night that this represents the culmination of what Judis and Teixera long ago dubbed "The Emerging Democratic Majority": a coalition of minority voters that will consistently produce Democratic landslides. (snip) One of our editors suggested that I write something up on it, and my response was that I'm not sure how enduring this "Emerging Democratic Majority" will prove to be. Some reasons for my skepticism

AccuWeather CEO Barry Myers urged the National Hurricane Center (NHC) to reverse its decision not to issue hurricane or tropical storm warnings for Sandy north of North Carolina. "To indicate that there is a landfalling hurricane and to issue warnings about it is the most effective thing that can be done to warn the public," Myers said. There has not been one hurricane watch or warning issued by the National Hurricane Center for New Jersey despite the anticipated landfall of Hurricane Sandy near Atlantic City this evening.

The Egyptian authorities have seized documents which reportedly confirm Jewish ownership of property in Cairo. The 1.7 million documents, weighing two tonnes, were confiscated as they were being shipped to Israel via Jordan. (snip) Israeli authorities intended to use the documents and deeds in a legal suit to reclaim property that was confiscated from Cairo’s Jews during the 1952 revolution. (snip) The documents were stolen from the Cairo research institute, the Institut d’Égypte, during last year’s public riots.

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”

Former Democratic National committee chairman Howard Dean considers the controversy over Benghazi a “joke” and “silly.” “Benghazi is a laughable joke,” Dean proclaimed twice in a discussion with Republican National Committee communications chairman Sean Spicer last week. “With all due respect, governor, when four Americans die serving this country, that’s not a joke, sir,” Spicer responded. “Oh, stop it,” said Dean. The former Democratic presidential candidate also said that there were “no serious questions being asked about Benghazi” and brushed it off as an effort by Republicans to score political points.

There’s really no reason for the press to suggest that the recent slew of scandals involving the Obama administration — Benghazi, the AP phone-record seizure, the snooping in James Rosen’s e-mail, the IRS’s targeting of conservative groups, and so on — are a confusing jumble. There is a very clear thread running through all of the administration’s actions: The U.S. deputy chief of mission in Libya, Gregory Hicks, says that he was told not to speak to a member of Congress about Benghazi without a State Department lawyer present, that he received a phone call from Hillary Clinton’s
