| SALISBURY, N.C.-- Even with his strong debate performance, Mitt Romney needs every possible advantage to overtake President Barack Obama in the next four weeks. Not helping him much is the Republican Party he leads. Thanks in part to congressional Republicans' no-compromise stands on key issues, and an unpopular past president in George W. Bush, the GOP's image is at one of its lowest points in modern times. Romney is now distancing himself a bit from some party policies, most notably by emphasizing that he doesn't want to cut taxes for high earners.

This is fun. The left is in full panic mode. This writer refuses to accept that Romney has overtaken Obama in the polls. So what does he do? He lies. At a less far left rag he'd get fired (or at least not posted) for spouting one brazen lie after another. But nah, he's preaching to the choir.

Yes OP, exactly what Reagan would say. Republicans are not sitting still this election year but fighting back so all the left has is they lie, they aren't democrats they want to kill women, children and little old grannies.

So they've gone from the politics of personal (individual) destruction to scorched-earth policy, flaming everyone and everything even remotely related to Romney.
So predictable, so lame. No one is buying it. Why? The Alinsky whores have been marginalizing Romney for years, and therefore unwittingly insulated him from being attached to the Bush/Koch brothers/Condi Rice/Rumsfeld/Cheney mantra, and the Palin/McCain/birther mantra.
Plus, Obama is the issue here, not the GOP. Daily Romney and Ryan are humiliating the Taupe Dope and his failed domestic and foreign policies. Poor little Barack! Running to the loving arms of rich Hollywood jerks or aging grande dames of New York's jet set.

Mr. Babington is dreaming. The GOP brand is not diminished. Possibly it's not what he wishes it to be. When democrats threw the Clintons over and picked Obama did AP say the party was diminished? Far left democrats controlled the House for 4 years. The GOP has only had it for less than 2 years. Obama could have passed anything he wanted for 2 entire years. Why doesn't the AP ask Obama why he never submitted a budget during those 2 years? When he finally submitted one in 2011 it was voted down 97-0 in the Democrat controlled Senate. As far as the current GOP House, leadership believes in getting along with Obama. They never defunded ObamaCare which would've been easy to do and is why we elected them.

Look, I don't respect the AP's reporting and the idea that the writer quotes a rental car agent who "endured" drizzle to share his views is ridiculous. But to a great extent, he's right. Look at Akin, Santorum and Bachmann, all of whom are, though they would claim otherwise, one-issue candidates. Most Americans wouldn't place abortion rights anywhere near the top of America's "biggest problem" list, but they do ... and they bring the party down with it. Had an interesting discussion with a group of friends -- all Republicans, and one of them an elected official -- the other day. All are pro-choice and disgusted with the party's obsession with abortion. I'm sure most Ldotters will disagree, but it's like being told you have bad breath. You don't want to hear it but eventually you need to either do something about it or find yourself ostracized.

The GOP's image is at one of its lowest points in modern times. That is exactly why the 2010 polling was R+2 and Republican registrations are at an all time high (36.7%) overtaking Democrats for the first time? AP/Reuters is not where you will read this first!

Well 3&, the right to life...liberty... is a fundamental right in America. You may not want it front and center in a party platform, but when the opposition has to vote 3 times to admit God into it's official statements, and enjoys killing babies-- ultimately God is not pleased.
Yes there are bigger problems facing the US economically, but morally, aside from a leader who has no true moral compass, the country is in a shambles because of its allowance of perversion and murder.

Given the past 4 years, I don't think George W. Bush is quite as unpopular as the AP wishes he were. The budget deficit for Bush's last year in office was around 200 billion. The deficit for 0bama's last year is about 1.3 trillion.

Sorry #7 but you're a little off base. There is significantly more to the three Republicans you named than their stance on abortion. Problem is that the press pounds on them 24/7 and so perception becomes reality. Notice they never go back and correct themselves when for example Michele Bachmann turns out to be correct about the muslim brotherhood, or that Akin is highly respected in his district. However, I will agree on one point, considering where we are, at the edge of the cliff we should be pounding the looming debt crisis, energy costs, repeal of 0bamacare and the continued rise of terrorism fist.

#7, you're right about one thing. I totally disagree with you. People should vote for their convictions and core beliefs. Political expediency is a secondary concern. Sometimes you have to vote for the lesser of two evils. That is not the case in this election. If you can't figure that out well..........

Appearing on MSNBC´s Andrea Mitchell Reports on Wednesday, NBC´s chief White House correspondent Chuck Todd came up with a long list of excuses for President Obama´s poor speech performance in Berlin: "I want to give you a little context here....there was an attempt to shrink the crowd size....Maybe they would have gotten 25, 30, 40,000 people....President Obama feeds off a crowd very well." [Listen to the audio or watch the video after the jump] Todd then grasped at other reasons for the lackluster event: "...you had that very distracting glass and you could just see that the President

Another Republican Super PAC is jumping into the increasingly nasty Massachusetts Senate battle, going after Democrat Ed Markey’s biggest weakness — his $1.3 million Maryland home. The America Rising PAC, recently founded by Mitt Romney’s former presidential campaign manager, is planning to deliver a letter today to Maryland’s comptroller urging the state to investigate why Markey has never paid state income taxes there despite living in the upscale Chevy Chase suburb for two decades, the Herald has learned. Markey’s residency status has been dogging him throughout his career, ever since the Herald reported in the early 1990s

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Wednesday said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was “starting to get nervous” about passing immigration reform, suggesting that opponents of the bill were gaining momentum. "I certainly wouldn´t presume to speak for Harry Reid, but I think he´s starting to get nervous," Cruz said in an interview with conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh. The Senate this week is debating the Gang of Eight’s bipartisan immigration reform proposal. Reid (D-Nev.) is hoping to pass the measure before the July recess. Cruz suggested that Reid hoped to move the bill quickly to avoid scrutiny

Los Angeles County coroner´s officials said Wednesday the body recovered from a fiery, single-car crash in Hollywood that apparently killed journalist Michael Hastings will likely undergo an autopsy Thursday. But an official cause of death and closure of the case is not likely for four to six weeks or perhaps longer, they said. Coroner´s officials are hoping the results will answer why the accident happened. Officials were attempting to match dental records to help make a positive identification. The death of the 33-year-old Hastings was announced Tuesday by his employer, BuzzFeed,

Meet the Women for Weiner. The former congressman, who apologized for the lewd picture scandal that ended his House career before launching a bid last month for New York City mayor, is holding a fundraiser hosted by “Women for Anthony” next week at the Manhattan home of an education activist and philanthropist. The host committee is led by his wife, Huma Abedin, and includes her sister, Heba; Rory Tahari, wife of designer Elie Tahari; and Cheryl Saban, the wife of California-based mega-donor Haim Saban, who funded a short film lauding Hillary Clinton’s tenure at the State Department

Likening religious schools to segregation--a racist system that forced blacks to attend different schools and use different facilities than whites in the American South--President Barack Obama told a town hall meeting for youth in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Monday that there should not be Catholic and Protestant schools because such schools cause division. "Because issues like segregated schools and housing, lack of jobs and opportunity--symbols of history that are a source of pride for some and pain for others--these are not tangential to peace; they’re essential to it,"

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

Listening to Barack Obama give his speech in Belfast on Monday, it was hard not to stifle a yawn. I kept waiting for the part when he would say something interesting, but, about three quarters of the way through, realised it wasn’t going to come. Judging from television pictures some of his young audience felt the same, after the initial rush of euphoria of receiving the rock star president in their midst had passed. This is not surprising, for we had already heard this number about the inspirational role of the Northern Ireland peace process and the Emerald Isle’s

This is the thirtieth anniversary of the publication of How Democracies Perish, an analysis of the spread of world communism by Jean-François Revel, one of freedom´s most serious French defenders since Tocqueville. At the heart of this work, Revel details "The Tools of Communist Expansion," among which the most relevant for understanding our current situation comes in Chapter 16, "Ideological Warfare and Disinformation." The profound simplicity of Revel´s nuts and bolts account of totalitarianism´s Cold War advance, far from being obsolete

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.
