[Chart] Gallup typically reports voter presidential preferences in seven-day rolling averages; the latest such average as of Saturday interviewing shows Obama with an average three-point edge, 49% to 46%, among registered voters. This Sept. 30-Oct. 6 field period includes three days before the Oct. 3 debate, the night of the debate itself, and three days after the debate.
RENO, Nevada- A couple and four young children missing in frigid weather since they went on an outing to play in the snow on Sunday were found alive in a remote mountain range in Nevada on Tuesday huddled in their overturned vehicle, a sheriff´s dispatch supervisor said. The couple had taken their two children and the woman´s niece and nephew, who range in age from 3 to 10, to an abandoned mining camp in the Seven Troughs range of northwestern Nevada, Pershing County dispatch supervisor Sheila Reitz said. The six were found in good condition and were treated for exposure
The troubled son of a church pastor who is a spiritual advisor to Barack Obama has died in an apparent suicide. Father-of-three Isaac Hunter, 36, had been battling problems since resigning from a Florida megachurch he founded after admitting to an affair with a staff member last year. A judge also granted his wife a domestic-violence petition after claiming his erratic behavior and alcohol abuse had left her ´fearing for my life and the lives of our three children.´ According to court documents, Hunter had written an undated suicide note saying: ´I have become what I never wished to be,
A federal judge said General Motors Co is not required to pay $450 million to cover medical benefits for retirees, in a defeat for the United Auto Workers union. In a 36-page decision, U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn in Detroit said on Tuesday that the current GM did not assume any obligation for the payment, which the automaker had contracted to make two years before its June 2009 bankruptcy filing. The payment had been part of a June 2007 contract between the old GM, its former Delphi Corp affiliate and the UAW. It was not, however, included in a different
MOSCOW— A Russian Cabinet member says Moscow has reserved the right to use nuclear weapons in response to a conventional strike. Wednesday´s comments by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin carried by Russian news agencies reflected Moscow´s concern with prospective U.S. weapons. Weapons that have been developed in the U.S. under the so-called "prompt global strike" program would be capable of striking targets anywhere in the world in as little as an hour with deadly precision. Russia, which has lagged far behind in developing such weapons, has described them as destabilizing. Without naming the U.S., Rogozin said that those who "experiment
Pleasantly surprised and a bit shocked, I enjoyed religious Christmas carols playing in the elevator of a major hotel. Progressive bullies are relentless in their quest to repeal the celebration of Jesus´s birthday, Christmas, declared a federal holiday in 1870 by President Ulysses S. Grant. Illustrating the effectiveness of the progressives´ intimidation, anonymously, signs are being stealthily posted in public areas: "It´s OK to say Merry Christmas." The progressives´ assault on Christmas leads me to MSNBC-TV host Martin Bashir´s degrading and disgusting punishment suggested for Sarah Palin (i.e., that someone defecate in her mouth). While watching the deplorable MSNBC segment,
WASHINGTON, December 11, 2013–The fourth season of “Duck Dynasty” has already ended. But rejoice! We will get one more dose of the Robertson clan tonight when their Christmas special airs at 10 p.m. on A&E. This Christmas episode, cleverly titled “O Little Town of West Monroe,” will feature the camo clan performing a live Nativity scene for their local church. There will also be a lot of discussions among famkly members about choosing the right Christmas presents for each other. But for a family worth 83 million dollars, you can bet those presents will be piled high under their various
FALFURRIAS, TX — U.S. Border Patrol agents seized more than 2,200 pounds of marijuana Monday at the Falfurrias Checkpoint on U.S. Highway 281 North. During an inspection at the checkpoint, a Border Patrol K-9 alerted to the presence of narcotics in a tractor-trailer. Agents used a mobile X-ray device to scan the vehicle, which revealed the marijuana hidden inside crates. When the agents opened the crates they found concrete benches and bundles of marijuana. The marijuana, which has an estimated value of more than $1.7 million, was seized
When I was a kid, I knew two different Santa Clauses. The first had a fat belly, rosy cheeks, a long white beard, and skin as pink as bubble gum. He was omnipresent, visiting my pre-school and the local mall, visible in all of my favorite Christmas specials. Then there was the Santa in my family’s household, in the form of ornaments, cards, and holiday figurines. A near-carbon copy of the first one—big belly, rosy cheeks, long white beard: check, check, check. But his skin was as dark as mine. Seeing two different Santas was bewildering. Eventually I asked my father what
US President Barack Obama may have moved the masses attending Nelson Mandela’s memorial service with his stirring eulogy, but it was his grinning "selfie" with the Danish and British premiers that set social networks abuzz. In a candid moment captured by a photographer, Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt can be seen holding up her smartphone, with Obama lending a helping hand, as they pose for a picture with David Cameron, all three of them smiling broadly in their seats at Soweto’s World Cup stadium.(Snip)Mashable, the news and technology website, ran the photograph under the headline: ‘‘Dear Obama: Funerals are no place
On his way to the podium at the memorial ceremony for former South African president Nelson Mandela, President Obama walked down the line of dignitaries, greeting other leaders there to pay their respects. Among the hands shaken: that of Cuban leader Raul Castro. Obama neither made a special effort to shake Castro’s hand nor to avoid him. A snub might have been awkward: In his speech, Obama praised Mandela’s “greatest gift” as “his recognition that we are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye; that there is a oneness to humanity; that we achieve ourselves by
The Obama State Department has finally released a second round of photos revealing the harrowing devastation wrought by a terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012. The new photographs depict rampant damage to the consulate. They show charred walls, smoldering fires, Arabic graffiti defacing exterior walls, and scattered debris throughout. The extent of the damage would lead any reasonably serious person to conclude that this was a cold, calculated attack, carefully coordinated to mark the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. Unfortunately for the American people, the Obama-Clinton-Rice cabal that led to the Benghazi cover-up was
A black fashion student says he was brutally attacked by a gang of Hasidic men who shouted anti-gay slurs at him while he was walking through Williamsburg after a night of partying, the Daily News has learned. Taj Patterson, 22, was headed home to Fort Greene around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 when he says more than a dozen ultra-Orthodox Jewish men began assaulting him on Flushing Ave. and yelling, “Stay down, f----t!”
Johannesburg - A man who provided sign language interpretation on stage for Nelson Mandela´s memorial service, attended by scores of heads of state, was a "fake," the national director of the Deaf Federation of South Africa said on Tuesday. Asked about the claim by The Associated Press, South Africa´s government said it was preparing a statement. Three sign language experts said the man was not signing in South African or American sign languages. South African sign language covers all of the country´s 11 official languages, according to the federation. It wasn´t immediately clear if the unidentified man was using a
A “presidential selfie” featuring President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service began making the rounds this morning, but it’s the person not included in the frame who caught everyone’s attention: As anyone with two eyes and a Twitter account has noticed, Michelle Obama does not appear amused. Of course, though a picture says a thousand words, not all of those words are necessarily true. FLOTUS might not have even known the photo was taking place. Or she could disapprove of funeral selfies. Either way.
