Political Yard Signs
Tell More Than a
Candidate's Name

Political signs on private residential property are unlikely to sway undecided voters, but they do say something about the owners' personal values. Lawn maintenance and general property upkeep also reflect one's values. After casually surveying my neighborhood during my daily jogging jaunts, I noticed a pattern: Unkempt lawns have more signs supporting Democrat candidates, whereas neat properties proudly sport signs favoring Republican candidates.

Good one OP. We've noticed that, too!

For the first time in my adult life, there is NO sign in my yard. Why? FEAR of retribution. No bumper sticker either, as I don't want my car keyed.
If Obama loses, I don't want to invite trouble. Great country you created, Obama.

In '08 there were 0dumbo signs everywhere here in DE. To date I have seen just 2! Also, only three bumper stickers and one was from '08. I find it encouraging.

#3 - Ditto from The Glorious Heroic Peoples Revolutionary Soviet of Austin. In '08, Obama yard signs and bumper stickers were everywhere. You could drive anywhere and see literally 4 or 5 at the same time.

Now in 2012, I have only seen a couple dozen Obie stickers, and only 4 or 5 yard signs. Even here in Moonbat Central, Odumbo is no longer the Messiah.

Same observations here.
The most awful yards, gone to weeds, sport Obama.Biden signs.
Junky cars, too.

My neighborhood, too. And the 0bots had to put 3 signs in their sloppy yard - must be compensating for something.

#2, you are not alone. On Michelle Malkin's Twitchy website, they have catalogued dozens of tweets from lunatics bragging about peeing on Romney signs, ripping Romney bumper stickers off of cars, keying cars with Romney stickers, etc... One person had their boat and Romney sign graffitied. Some include photographs.

They say they have yet to find a tweet from a Romney supporter doing the same regarding Obama paraphernalia.

As a voter from the swing state of Ohio, I noticed this at least a month ago. In 2008, there were Obama signs and bumper stickers all over the place. Contrast to 2012 and I can count the total I have seen to date on two fingers. I am seeing Romney/Ryan signs, not alot, but some.

All of my friends are for Romney.. Agree with number two. I do not want my car, lawn or mailbox valdalized as in 2008.

The first sign in my yard this political season reads:

FIRE OBAMA

I will NOT be intimidated. You should not fear, #2.

Unfortunately, I have found it necessary to attach a small note on my political signs which reads, "Be sure to smile for the video camera."
And mind you, I live in a 'nice' area. Leftist lunatics are rarely nice, however.
But I repeat: I will NOT be intimidated.

we rent a house but the slumlord set it up like a multi-unit property with people underneath us and behind us. Anyway, our yard is not so great but my roommate and I vote a straight R ticket. But in general, I agree with the author's assessment.

There is a very valuable multi acre property near me. Last cycle it was the only home to have a Zero sign in the lawn. This year it is the only one to have a for sale sign...and it has for months now.

I don't put out signs or attach bumper stickers, either. Just an invitaion for a moron to vandalize your property.
I do not see any Obama/Biden signs in yards at all. Have only seen a handful of bumper stickers. Starting to see quite a few R/R yard signs but I live in a pretty conservative neighborhood in the evil suburbs of Dallas.

Three of our neighbors (we live in a townhouse) are 0bama supporters who don't keep their grass mowed. My husband has done it for them many times, but since they rarely pay him for gas and don't thank him, he will no longer help them. Instead, we will leave them to the mercy of the landscaping company which has a contract with our HOA. The HOA has now mandated that the landscaping company can mow private property which is being neglected, without the homeowners' consent, and the homeowners will be charged for it by the HOA. Serves them right.

I can verify what #4 said. I also live in the Soviet Socialist Repulik of Austin, TX.

In 2008, There were N∅bama signs everywhere. He came to town for a rally, and it was outside and had probably 20,000 people in attendance. 90% of the cars you saw on the road had N∅bama bumper stickers on them.

I rode through my old neighborhood, and not one house has a N∅bama sign in the yard this year (where I'm sure 75% of them did last time). I have seen so few cars with N∅bama 2012 bumpter stickers on them that it actually surprises me to see one. When N∅bama came to town a couple of months ago, they moved his rally to an indoor theather, and I don't think 2,000 people showed up.

If the ''thrill'' is gone in an uber-lie-beral place like Austin, I just can't see how N∅bama is actually still in this thing at all. I sure hope I'm not wrong...

I too live in a well-off very liberal area. Everybody's lawn looks good. BUT--there are no Obama yard signs. Not one. I do see Elizabeth Warren signs. But I also see Scott Brown signs, which is amazing for this neck of the woods.

Reply 17 - Posted by: Udanja99, 10/8/2012 12:44:46 PM     (No. 8918167)

I've seen the same phenomena where I live and I just assume that the messy yards and shabby houses with the zippy signs are owned or rented by people getting government bennies. If that makes me a judgmental snob, oh well.

I'm currently on a business trip in the Bay area and have driven all over from San Jose to Modesto. I've seen one 0bama bumper sticker and no yard signs. Could it be because gas hit $5 a gallon here this weekend? My sister lives in a Chicago suburb and reports the same thing in an area that was littered in zippy signs four years ago. Talk about an enthusiasm deficit.

I've noticed this as well in my neck of the woods. No surprise either. The yard signs for Barky are what pass for lawn ornaments & yard work with his supporters. They have the same work ethic as the Fraud-in-Chief.

Depends on the hour for my house. Wiffle ball bats, big wheels and bikes litter my lawn at any given moment.

Do not judge all w/ neatly cared for homes and lawns w/o signs. Government employees are severly restricted as to what they cannot do during a presidential election. Thanks to the Hatch act many are afraid to do anything but vote.

In a different forum, there was a lady (from Ohio) who reported on her canvasing experiences for Romney. She spent hours going from door to door. The number of Obama supporters were very few and non-committal, but the number of Romney supporters were rather overwhelming. People were all fired up to vote. She met many independents who were also committed to voting for Romney. She was expecting a hard time based on what the polls were stating for Ohio, and she was pleasantly surprised

My home town is a very liberal college town - virtually no-one is putting out yard signs or using bumper stickers - vandalism really curbs one's style. Our 'We the People' car sticker invited being spat at - uck - . There are some nut cases sporting mini forests of yard signs of every democrat candidate for miles around - very tempting for some midnight sabotage - but have so far restrained the urge.

Where we live in NC, we see zero Obama signs. However, I have seen several ABO bumper stickers plastered around, on the backs of traffic signs, etc.

Romney/ Ryan signs everywhere. Our county leans Republican.

At least a halph dozen homes in our neighborhood sport PROUD UNION HOME and beside them are Romney/Ryan signs. This in C(r)ook County, Illinois. ENCOURAGING!

I don't see a lot of yard signs out in my area, but I do see lots of bumper stickers. My rule of thumb for them: 1 or 2 is normal, 3 or 4 a bit bossy, 5-6 control freak. More than 6 avoid at all costs, and are invariably far, far left liberals.

As a bonus, I'll throw in my theory on males driving big red trucks: 80% drive like weenies - the truck proves their manhood. 10% drive like maniacs because, hey, it's a big red truck. The other 10% drive like normal people and just like the color red.

I live in a conservative county in PA. I have noticed something a bit different and maybe a little encouraging? In my neighborhood and the surrounding area there is a mix of 'classes'. Oddly, the homes owned by strictly middle and lower middle classes all have RR signs on their lawns. the 'upper crust' have OB signs on theirs.
That gives me hope that 0bama's target audience is not buying his assertion that RR wants to destroy the middle class.
All they want are job opportunities; give them that and they'll take it the rest of the way...... No one in my area is looking for free phones or handouts.

Reply 28 - Posted by: Attercliffe, 10/8/2012 5:20:55 PM     (No. 8918809)

All the Romney/Ryan and Tim Scott signs spotted yesterday have disappeared. Two lonely signs for liberal candidates are the only ones visible.

I should add that a road running through our neighborhood is often used by non-residents as a short-cut. I doubt that anyone in the neighborhood did this. They're heavily retired or active military.

Reply 29 - Posted by: nonsense, 10/8/2012 10:11:25 PM     (No. 8919248)

I've seen a few O. signs, but mostly R & R in my Demonrat town. I did see two O. signs that made me laugh. One had a big X through the O & B sign, and the other one was bright orange with Defeat Obama in big, bold letters.

The R and R folks have multiple signs and they are kept in close proximity to the front doors, a deterrent to theft I suppose.

Remember president Obama´s first pitch of the MLB 2010 season at the Washington Nationals ballpark? It sailed towards the home team dugout. While he couldn´t throw a baseball within ten feet of home plate -- even if it took a double bounce on the way in -- Obama has tossed perfect incendiary strikes inside his own clubhouse, sending his entire team to the disabled list, demoted to the minor leagues, or banned from the game for life. In fact Obama´s entire liberal-progressive league has forfeited the rest of the season -- and then some.

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city.
