| According to a new Gallup poll of those who watched last week's presidential debate, 72% picked Mitt Romney as the winner, while only 20% thought Barack Obama won. That''s the biggest win in history, exceeding even Bill Clinton's 42% advantage in his townhall debate over George H.W. Bush (the one where Bush checked his watch). The numbers on Romney vs. Obama reflect those of snap opinion polls. According to Gallup, Republicans gave him a 95% win over Obama, Independents picked him, 70%-19%, and even Democrats thought Romney won, 49%-39%. But does that really matter?

Another, and perhaps more revealing way of putting it would be that Obama suffered the biggest debate LOSS in history. It works both ways.
The spell has been broken. Icarus has fallen. The illusion of invincibility has been shattered. Humpty Dumpty has fallen off the wall, and all the king's men cannot put him together again. Obama's post-debate behavior makes him look even worse, like a sore loser who tries to continue the debate in the absence of his opponent. Excuses offered by his apologists for his wretched performance range from the absurd to the near insane. There is absolutely nothing that we know about Obama that suggests he is capable of doing better the next time around. His handlers will cram him full of sound bites and zingers and character slurs - but when he has launched these, his quiver will be empty and he will be at Romney's mercy. It won't be pretty. The moderator will be tempted to intervene and stop the fight.

Romney's not the type to slack off just because he hit one out of the park. If anything, this will make him redouble his efforts. He gave a very good foreign policy speech today at VMI: clear, focused, and explicit. That was a warm-up for his next debate with Obama.
As for dirt, it's hard to dig up any on a clean-living, law-abiding guy with a model family.

Well on Monday´s Tonight Show with Jay Leno that trend continued as Leno featured a clip of schoolchildren peppering the President with the tough questions that the press should be hammering him with on a daily basis. For a "failed scandal," Fast and Furious sure brought out the heavy hitters at the Department of Justice to deal with a whistleblower. The department´s inspector general has released a report accusing one US attorney, Dennis Burke, of leaking a document that smeared John Dodson, a key witness in the Fast and Furious scandal, and accusing other officials in the department of coming up with a strategy to discredit him. Breitbart: The DOJ IG said it found "Burke´s conduct in disclosing the Dodson memorandum to be inappropriate for a Department employee and wholly unbefitting a U.S. Attorney."

White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W.
