| Police officers in Detroit greeted football fans attending Saturday night’s Tigers game with a shock warning: 'Enter Detroit at Your Own Risk.'[Snip] Under the heading 'Attention: Enter Detroit at Your Own Risk', the flyer warns that Detroit is America’s most violent city, with the highest homicide rate, while it’s police force is grossly understaffed and under paid. 'We're not discouraging people from coming, I love the city, I want them to realize we don't have enough man hours,' police union president Joe Duncan told My Fox Detroit. In an attempt to save $350 million during

Yes,Detroit is dangerous.
But,this is the police union trying to get sympathy for themselves. Not to better Detroit.
Just a selfish plea for attention.

When I was a young woman first working in Boston, MA, the police there were handing out business cards with skull and crossbones on them to warn the tourists that Boston had a very high murder rate and was not a safe city to vacation in. Now we just hide the murder statistics. And put microphones in the minority districts so our police can "hear" gunshots.

Standard police union scare mongering. It may be true, but these leaflets are not uncommonly used in big cities when the union wants to apply pressure.

The headline got it right, but someone at the Daily Mail really dropped the ball with that first sentence. Guess they've never been to a game in Detroit. I have, I didn't feel unsafe, but I will admit that is one creepy looking town.

I've seen cobs sleeping in their cars in Detroit, right around the corner (not 100 feet away) from underage hookers working the street.

Democrats have run this city for decades...
Of course, they know and knew what to do to make it a thriving, wonderful and safe place to live and raise a family...
Next up, Trenton, New Jersey...

While it's true that Detroit football fans might be attending a Tiger's game (everyone needs to see what a win looks like once in a while) posters are correct, the Mail fumbled this one.

#9 You forgot about the bonfires that happen every Holloween as homes are torched. Detroit cannot handle the millions of dollars they've been given to tear down the 6000+ vacant homes in Detoit.

Yes, they should be passing out flyers like that to let people know they are completely on their own when in that toilet. Live in the city where they were "digging up Hoffa" last week and saw on the news video of a guy being robbed and beaten in the D, he ran around the corner found a police cruiser with 2 cops in it who told him they weren't allowed to leave their spot/cruiser. The police union is just PO'd they lost in court to the City and now want anybody brave enough to venture into Detroit to take care of themselves. Sickening!

Um #12, that's 60,000 empty homes not 6,000. The way to solve Detroit's problem is to cut off welfare payments, then you would have a population of 12 and you could start over. Bulldoze everything flat and turn it into farming country. I'm sure all the welfare types would move to Chicago. As for the cops, their numbers have been cut in half by funding cuts, lousy working conditions, graft and corruption. When I got out of the Army in '68 I had the option of working as a cop in DC - not even on a bet, but I would take DC back then over Detroit today.

In the executive suite on the 11th floor of a former bank building in downtown Columbia, a folk art painting propped up against the wall warns, “Look busy, Jesus is coming.” This is Tony Keck’s office, but he doesn’t need to bother looking busy. [Snip] The core of Keck’s message is that Medicaid, and health insurance generally, isn’t making people healthier. He can’t justify spending more money to expand what he sees as an inefficient program, even if the federal government is offering the state billions of dollars to make that happen.

What was the reason you gave up watching the BBC´s Late Review (or Newsnight Review as it then became) or the BBC Review Show as it now is? For me it was the regular guest called Ekow Eshun. He used to spout such unutterable drivel with such fluent and uninterruptable conviction that it made me think: "I never want to read a book or see a film, play or art show ever again just in case I coincidentally end up developing an opinion as fatuous as Ekow Eshun´s."[Snip] Things have changed. Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has delivered some harsh criticisms to President Barack Obama over recent controversies surrounding his administration in a speech. [Snip] CNN says Jindal addressed the IRS’ extra scrutiny of conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status, saying those involved in the targeting should ´go to jail´. ´Anyone who participated in this targeting of Americans for their political beliefs, anyone who knew about it, anyone who simply looked the other way, and anyone under whose watch this occurred needs to be fired,´ Jindal said, noting that ordinary citizens who fail to pay taxes could face jail time.

The insurgent leader, who has not been named for operational reasons, commanded seven groups of Taliban fighters and bombers across southern Afghanistan. The dawn raid, carried out with Afghan forces, took place in the Marjah region near Nad-e-Ali, close to the British base in Lashkar Gah. It is believed the Taliban leader, who sources confirmed had regularly travelled between Helmand and Pakistan, had been hunted for a year after being linked to at least three other attacks. Citing defense ministry sources in Seoul, Yonhap said the missiles had crashed into the Sea of Japan, off the eastern coast of the Korean peninsula. Two rockets were launched this morning while a third was launched in the afternoon, Yonhap said. Early South Korean media reports suggested “shore-based anti-ship” missiles had been fired. Such tests are not unusual in North Korea. In March, a similar launch was carried out with two short-range missiles taking off from the country’s eastern coast. The Tokyo-based news agency, Kyodo, reported the missiles had not fallen into Japanese waters. Yonhap said South Korea had “beefed

You certainly wouldn´t want these ants in your pants. A species of ants, nicknamed ´crazy´ by researchers because they are prone to sporadic movements has descended upon the Southeastern region of the country, particularly in coastal areas with warmer temperatures and has wreaked havoc on yards and homes. ´Crazy´ ants are known scientifically as ´Nylanderia fulva´ and are native to Argentina and Brazil, they are also referred to as ´rasberry´ after the exterminator Tom Rasberry who discovered them in Houston in 2002. The ´crazy´ ants do not have such a painful sting as their insect counterparts, they are still a

What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. Inspector General Russell George said he informed a deputy at the Treasury Department in June of 2012 about the probe into the IRS. The Treasury Department confirmed the timeline but said they did not know the details of the investigation until last week.(Snip)Marcus Owens ran the tax-exempt division at the IRS for 10 years. In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

It began in earnest last Friday. A flash mob of latte drinking, tofu eating media that has done its best to quell, rather than fan the flames of truth, turned on one of their own. Jay Carney lay bludgeoned at the base of the podium, a victim of friendly fire. Ironically, the attack was reminiscent of the one in Benghazi he has repeatedly denied the Administration he represents bears any responsibility for. “Changed twelve times?!” came the cries. And with good reason. We were misled; no, lied to.

Washington – Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-MO, issued a video statement Friday in response to reports that the Internal Revenue Service unfairly targeted conservative nonprofit groups. The Internal Revenue Service´s watchdog told top Treasury officials around June 2012 he was investigating allegations the tax agency had targeted conservative groups, for the first time indicating that Obama administration officials were aware of the explosive matter in the midst of the president´s re-election campaign. The disclosure to the Treasury general counsel and the deputy secretary was a cursory one, according to J. Russell George, the Treasury inspector general for tax administration. He said he didn´t reveal conclusions of the probe, which was in its early stages, and his disclosure came as part
