| Forty-three hospital patients starved to death last year and 111 died of thirst while being treated on wards, new figures disclose today. The death toll was disclosed by the Government amid mounting concern over the dignity of patients on NHS wards. They will also fuel concerns about care homes, as it was disclosed that eight people starved to death and 21 people died of thirst while in care. (Snip) as well as 43 people who starved to death, 287 people were recorded by doctors as being malnourished when they died in hospitals;

Comments:
If the 287 who also died were ''malnourished'' then the deaths can also be directly attributed to the NHS improper feeding of patients. Ditto those who died while dehydrated. The death toll from NHS abuse is thus actually MUCH higher than the low figures first cited in this report. The British healthcare system is an abomination that must not be allowed to take root here.

Perhaps the medical personnel were too busy rehearsing for Olympic production to attend to their patients.

I'm the caregiver for my 91 year old father. He had a slight stroke, but is otherwise all right. If I didn't remember to tell him to drink, he'd die of thirst. His thirst reflex is just plain and simply gone.
Since I would bet most of the nurses are too busy filling out paper work to keep the beauracratic machine happy, I can see how patients would die of thirst.

While in college in the early '70s, in one class we discussed the "Slippery Slope", beginning with abortion, then euthinasia, but I don't remember talking about starving people to death. (Maybe it's a form of euthanasia????) Could this be in the Obamacare? Just asking..........

Most seniors aren't ready to opt for the pretty pill that makes their pain go away forever. This sounds a lot like the EPA administrator for Texas. Come in, crucify a few companies, and the rest become a lot more cooperative. Come in, let a handful of patients die slowly from simple neglect, and all of a sudden, the rest are ready to take their committee prescribed medication.

Before we say Not in my backyard, remember that in nursing homes here if a patient can't feed themselves, many will go without, and if they can't ask for a drink, they won't get it. Many will go to the hospital malnurished and dehydrated. G-d help them if family isn't checking in daily.
Those that are cared for at home, may be cared for by an ignorant person and not receive home healthcare. One person was left at home in a chair with a cooler while the relative went to work.
Now the hospitals will be fined for readmissions.
Death panels indeed.

We at Townhall have been covering this hotly contested Senate race for months and the results are finally in: With 36 percent of precincts reporting, Elizabeth Warren has been declared the next junior Senator from Massachusetts. Warren has never held public office before and the eye-popping $40 million she raised this election cycle evidently proved more than enough to unseat incumbent Senator Scott Brown. This was the most expensive Senate race of 2012 -- by a long shot.

A week after Hurricane Sandy slammed into the East Coast, a majority of voters said President Barack Obama’s response to the crisis wasn’t a factor in their vote, according to early exit polls. Fifty-five percent of those surveyed, per CBS News’ early exit polling released by radio station WKZO in Kalamazoo, Mich., said Obama’s handling of the storm was a minor factor in their vote or wasn’t a factor at all. Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. It is understood that a contingency plan is in place for the unlikely event that an attempt would be made on the President’s life. The Secret Service also have diplomatic immunity which will allow them to shoot to kill a would-be assassin without fear of prosecution. As part of the “evacuation route” plan, they would be able to spirit the President by chopper to one of the carriers where a jet is on standby to take him back to the United States.
