Production of electric
vehicles has twice the
global warming potential
of fossil fuel powered cars

A new Norwegian study, “Comparative Environmental Life Cycle Assessment of Conventional and Electric Vehicles” published in the Journal of Industrial Ecology (full paper here) found that the “use phase” of electric vehicles (EVs) “powered by the present European electricity mix offers a 10% to 24% decrease in global warming potential (GWP) relative to conventional diesel or gasoline vehicles assuming lifetimes of 150,000 km. However, EVs exhibit the potential for significant increases in human toxicity, freshwater eco-toxicity, freshwater eutrophication, and metal depletion impacts, largely emanating from the vehicle supply chain.” The authors call that “problem shifting.”

I know that, most sensible people know that, how's come the greenies and the EPA
know it. Let them whine and swing and suffer.

Progressives are equally immune to the opinions of their adversaries and scientific observations.

Only the DOGMA matters.

And the DOGMA is: Humans are a cancer on the planet.

I am to the point of desiring less studies, especially the European variety conducted by unnamed researchers.

Okay, so the Envirowackos want to shut down coal plants, they don't want to drill for domestic oil or natural gas, they don't want to build nuclear plants in their back yards, and they don't want to build hydro-electric plants that might endanger an obscure creature, but they want to plug their electric cars into a wall socket to charge its battery. Do I have that right? Hey wackos, where do you think the electricity comes from that charges the battery in your environmentally friendly cars? Oh, and btw, the manufacture of said environmentally friendly cars does more damage to the environment then traditionally manufactured cars. Sigh! You can't fix stupid.

Hybrid cars make about as much sense as powering your sailboat by running a fan to blow wind into the sails, a long-time cartoon favorite.

Still, it is *barely* possible that in crowded urban environments, where you're waiting at lights a lot of time or crawling along under 15mph on jammed freeways, a hybrid can at least break even by shifting the pollution to another place and time.

Of course what would *really* make sense in those situations is an all-electric car, about 1,000 pounds, with about a 50 mile range and a top speed below 80mph, just a safety cage and a small motor and battery. Nobody wants that, nobody is offering that, and nothing much larger than that makes much sense, when you run the numbers.

Electricity comes from the earth. Plug the car into the ground and the energy of the earth will charge it immediately. There is no need for electric plants, that is the great mystery of why green energy is the future.

The beauty of so called "green" electric vehicles is that you get your pollution up front.

Now about the battery disposal.............

#6.....

I had a power-gen tech (in Iraq) who swore up and down that the reason we "Grounded" all of our generators was because they would run out of electrons if they weren't plugged into the ground.

They eventually took him off in a crazy suit.

But....where DO those fresh new electrons come from ???

Well #9. Its very simple -all plants and animals are endowed by gaia with electrons. Every time those stinkin' humans force electrons onto wires to power their incandescent lightbulbs, they are forever removed from nature. I know this is so, because an OWS guy? told me.

All these eco-terrorists need to be deported to the middle of the Sahara so they can fully enjoy no electricity, no cars, no nothing.

Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.), the Senate Finance Committee Chairman, predicted in an interview airing Sunday that the scandal surrounding the Internal Revenue Service selectively targeting conservative political groups will grow. “I have a hunch that a lot more is going to come out, frankly,” Baucus told Bloomberg News. “It’s broader than the current focus.” Steven Miller, the acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service who was ousted earlier this week, is testifying Friday before the House Ways and Means committee in what is expected to be the first of many congressional grillings over the scandal.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., charged Republicans with “exploiting” the questions surrounding the Benghazi talking points, the AP phone records seizure, and the IRS scandal in order to attack President Obama because “they fear” his agenda and eloquence. “This president — they make so much of these issues because this president is such a great president,” Pelosi told reporters during her weekly press briefing. “They will use talking points on Benghazi, they will use the IRS, they will use AP, as, I think, subterfuges — evasions — of what the American people want us to do.”

Public Policy Polling´s new national survey paints a rather unprecedented picture for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie´s 2016 aspirations -- one that is alternatively beneficial and uncomfortable. According to PPP, Christie earns favorable ratings across political ideologies, something that hasn´t been seen in a potential presidential nominee since Republican John McCain in 2008. Overall, 40 percent of Democrats, 41 percent of Republicans, and 45 percent of Independents view Christie favorably. He is the only potential 2016 candidate who earns favorable views across party lines

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has a personal reason for wanting to ban discrimination in the workplace. "My niece is a lesbian," Reid told the Huffington Post on Wednesday. "She´s a school teacher. Her employment shouldn´t be affected with that. We should have a law that says that, not just the good graces of wherever you work." Reid´s revelation is just the latest example of a member of Congress explaining a personal reason behind a political stance.

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) predicted Thursday that President Obama will renounce his signature healthcare law in the face of mounting conservative opposition to the reform. Bachmann said the ongoing scandal involving the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and challenges in implementing the Affordable Care Act put the law´s survival "back on the table." "The issue is now revived," she said at a press conference. "We believe that the heat will become so hot that even the president of the United States will be forced to repudiate his signature legislation."

Obama administration officials who were in key positions on Sept. 11, 2012, acknowledge that a range of mistakes were made the night of the attacks on the U.S. missions in Benghazi, and in messaging to Congress and the public in the aftermath. The officials spoke to CBS News in a series of interviews and communications under the condition of anonymity so that they could be more frank in their assessments. They do not all agree on the list of mistakes and it's important to note that they universally claim that any errors or missteps did not cost lives and reflect "incompetence rather than malice or cover up.

In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

The Internal Revenue Service´s watchdog told top Treasury officials around June 2012 he was investigating allegations the tax agency had targeted conservative groups, for the first time indicating that Obama administration officials were aware of the explosive matter in the midst of the president´s re-election campaign. The disclosure to the Treasury general counsel and the deputy secretary was a cursory one, according to J. Russell George, the Treasury inspector general for tax administration. He said he didn´t reveal conclusions of the probe, which was in its early stages, and his disclosure came as part

The lawmaker leading the charge to investigate the Benghazi terror attack on Friday subpoenaed the co-author of a report that slammed the State Department but didn´t interview Hillary Clinton. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) formally demanded that retired ambassador Thomas Pickering submit to being deposed by the committee next Thursday. The subpoena comes in the wake of a series of acrimonious public exchanges this week between the two men. A healthcare provider has sued the Internal Revenue Service and 15 of its agents, charging they wrongfully seized 60 million medical records from 10 million Americans. The name of the provider is not yet known, United Press International said. But Courthouse News Service said the suit claims the agency violated the Fourth Amendment in 2011, when agents executed a search warrant for financial data on one employee – and that led to the seizure of information on 10 million, including state judges. The search warrant did not specify that the IRS could take medical information, UPI said.
