| Don't you just hate people like this? Not only is Michael Phelps the most decorated Olympian of all time - with 18 swimming golds to his name - but he's also an amazing golfer too. The American holed a monster putt from over 50 yards in the Dunhill Links Championship at Kingsbarns in Scotland on Friday, proving his sporting prowess extends onto dry land as well. Phelps is playing with former Ryder Cup player Paul Casey and his brilliant putt, which took a full 17 seconds to drop, probably even made his decorated partner jealous.

I saw a video of it. Awesome. A once in a lifetime shot ... if you were anyone other than Michael Phelps - I put nothing past him.

Dang. There aren't many greens with fifty yards of puttable area in any direction. However, a few weeks ago at my own club in Largo (Bayou Club), I made one from the back of the putting green to the front, and paced it off. It was 37 long paces, or 111 feet. It was, obviously, the last practice putt I hit that day before teeing off.
I have also seen a putt at Augusta National GC (site of the Masters) on hole #14 that broke nearly one hundred eighty degrees--the player had to putt directly away from the hole--before the ball took the effect of gravity, rolled the opposite way, and toppled into the hole. Golf is, as my hero Jack Nicklaus has written, the greatest game of all.

The thing about golf, anyone can make a lucky shot here and there -- 5 out of 6 members of my family each have a hole-in-one. Not one of us could beat Phelps in a lap of swimming..ever.

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

One of the questions was whether he/she was concerned about unsecured weapons in the home.
