| A Yale University study has shown that a great many misinformed Americans are unlikely to change their minds, even when presented with facts contrary to their understanding. And when misinformation supports people’s pre-existing political views, it is almost impossible to change their minds with the pertinent facts. According to the study conducted by political scientist John Bullock, the harder one tries to rebut the misinformation, the more recalcitrant Americans, and particularly conservatives, are to changing their position.

Fact-challenged Clueless Clive is at it again. A politician, Deval Patrick, is not an authoritative, unbiased source of "facts". The $5-trillion-deficit Romney tax cut lie pushed by the Democrats has been disproved by nonpolitical analysts and was today disowned by the DNC. Looks like Clive exactly fits the profile of the dumbos in that Yale University study he mentions.

Who is this Clive person? First, I think Obama did make his $5t claim and argument as Clive tells it, during the debate.
It's a very weak argument and about all you can do when denouncing the putative $5t is to jump up and down. If Obama has any competent debate coaches, they will tell him not to do that, it's a no-win strategy.
Second, if you have one Mitt Romney in your head, and you meet another on the stage, let me tell you which one is the real one.

According to most liberal pundits, Romney was on the ropes, and his campaign was hopeless, and the race was all but over but for counting the landslide for Obambi. This is what happens when you drink your own bathwater--when you become part of the Obambi narrative. This race has been close, but Romney has had a lead for weeks. When you believe skewed to the Democrat polls, you will have a hard time when your prince is exposed for the fraud he has always been. Did you see Obambi today. Clive, I lived in MA for almost 60 years...and I've been to Wooosta (too) many times. It's like a miniature Detroit...all dingy, boarded up buildings, long gone industry, bums and dirtballs, gangs, illegals. Clive, it's got it all!!! At least everything that liberal havens everywhere seem to have! Keep talking, Clive...just watch your back, you're chance of getting mugged in Wooosta is a lot better than getting hit by lightning. Mr. McFarlane correctly identified a strange logic phenomenon, yet incorrectly identified the opposite group practicing the error as the chief malefactors. There is a name for Mr. McFarlane and it is a "Mumpsimus." Even Stephanie Cutter has admitted the $5T figure is made-up idiocy believed only by idiots. The reason the city rose to international prominence last week quietly left Graham Putnam & Mahoney Funeral Parlors in a nondescript van as night fell Wednesday. The unmarked van carrying the body of suspected Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev glided out into the busy Main South traffic and past the throng of media vehicles that had been camped out in front of the funeral home for almost a week. One of a group of vans that had moved in and out of the parking lot that night, the van belonged to the mortuary.

I found myself in a group conversation that included one of the more instantly recognizable media figures -- someone who personifies the phrase "mainstream media." Since this isn´t something that happens every day, why not make the best of it? Why not ask this VIMP (Very Important Media Person) a question or two on the topics that I frequently criticize the press for not covering? The problem was how to do so without unduly alarming the poor thing. My favorite kinds of questions might be distressing to VIMPs who never ask them, or even seem to think of them.

Many in the American Jewish community are aghast to discover that President Obama is planning to appoint former Senator Chuck Hagel to serve as Defense Secretary. It is hard to gain perspective in the heat of an election battle, particularly when the power of persuasion is driven not by the clarity of an ideological vision, but by the billions in political advertising dollars. Perhaps that is why throughout this bitter and torturous presidential campaign, which began the moment President Barack Obama was elected in 2008, the battle has primarily been fought on economic grounds — one side arguing that the economy which tanked in 2008 was getting better, the other saying it was not, and both sides saying the government needs to reduce spending.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." The lawmaker leading the charge to investigate the Benghazi terror attack on Friday subpoenaed the co-author of a report that slammed the State Department but didn´t interview Hillary Clinton. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) formally demanded that retired ambassador Thomas Pickering submit to being deposed by the committee next Thursday. The subpoena comes in the wake of a series of acrimonious public exchanges this week between the two men. A healthcare provider has sued the Internal Revenue Service and 15 of its agents, charging they wrongfully seized 60 million medical records from 10 million Americans. The name of the provider is not yet known, United Press International said. But Courthouse News Service said the suit claims the agency violated the Fourth Amendment in 2011, when agents executed a search warrant for financial data on one employee – and that led to the seizure of information on 10 million, including state judges. The search warrant did not specify that the IRS could take medical information, UPI said.
