A board has required D.C. small businesses and individual buyers to purchase health insurance through the newly minted health exchange, and though it's unclear whether the regulations require D.C. Council approval to take effect, members said Thursday that they apply to any company that has an office in the District with 50 or fewer employees. "If you have a business license here in the District of Columbia, then you participate through the exchange," said Dr. Mohammad Akhter, chairman of the D.C. Health Benefit Exchange board. A spokeswoman later clarified that those companies did

Comments:
It's starting. Be very afraid. So these morons enacted these regulations even with no details being finalized. Just imagine the chaos this will cause in those businesses. It just stuns me how this is being allowed to happen in this country.

Why not tell the public how Zippycare put small group health insurance agents out of business by cutting commissions to almost zero ? Agents are giving up their licenses.

Is there no industry this creep hasn't touched ?

In a comprehensive profile of outgoing Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, L.A. During the May 22 broadcast of National Public Radio´s "Talk of the Nation," host Neil Conan repeatedly contradicted a guest by claiming that the IRS has nothing at all to do with Obamacare. NPR´s Conan is, of course, completely incorrect. The IRS is up to its Tea Party harassing neck in Obamacare. The guest Conan contradicted was Kellyanne Conway, a Republican strategist and pollster. Conway was on to discuss the various scandals in which Obama is mired and close to the end of her segment she questioned how the American people can trust

The Obama administration plans to restart transfers of detainees out of Guantánamo Bay as part of President Obama’s efforts to close the prison, The Wall Street Journal reports. The president is planning to lift the restrictions on sending detainees to Yemen in the coming weeks, the Journal reports, citing unidentified U.S. officials. A White House official would not confirm the report that the administration will lift the Yemen restrictions. “We´re not commenting on press reports of transfers associated with Guantanamo,”

Last night, President Barack Obama honored singer Carole King with the the 2013 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. The celebration took the form of a concert, featuring James Taylor, Gloria Estefan, Billy Joel, Jesse McCartney, Emeli Sande, and Trisha Yearwood. It will air next week on PBS stations across the nation. But the White House has released President Obama´s speech to honor King: The president´s remarks begin with this quip: Thank you. I have to say that as the podium came out, which meant that was my cue, my mother-in-law said, "Oh, shoot." (Laughter.)

Big Government’s Abuses of Power

Government is now so huge, powerful, and callous that citizens risk becoming virtual serfs, lacking the freedoms guaranteed by the Founders. Is that perennial fear an exaggeration? Survey the current news. We have just learned that the Internal Revenue Service before the 2012 election predicated its tax-exemption policies on politics. It inordinately denied tax exemption to groups considered conservative or otherwise antagonistic to the president’s agenda. If the supposedly nonpartisan IRS is perceived as skewing our taxes on the basis of our politics, then the entire system of trust in self-reporting is rendered null and void.

WASHINGTON —Where are we now in this morass of Obama Administration scandals? We have the Associated Press imbroglio. We have the Benghazi imbroglio. We have the IRS imbroglio. Well, a synonym for imbroglio is confusion, and in all the above cases replace the word “imbroglio” with the word “confusion” and you will get a hint of where I am going. We have one massive cloud of confusion, and that is exactly what this embattled Administration wants, confusion. They think that if an event can be brought to confusion, at some point the journalists and the general public will

National Journal, by Beth Reinhard    Original Article

In 2000, Ted Cruz was known only as a Texas-raised, Harvard-trained domestic policy adviser to the George W. Bush campaign. Bush was a two-term governor from a border state who was determined to fix what he saw as a broken, inhumane immigration system. Cruz helped craft the campaign’s immigration policy, which called for speeding up the application process, increasing the number of work visas, and allowing the relatives of permanent residents to visit the U.S. while their applicants were pending. “Family values don’t stop at the Rio Grande,” Bush used to say. Bush, a self-described “compassionate conservative,”

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”

Former Democratic National committee chairman Howard Dean considers the controversy over Benghazi a “joke” and “silly.” “Benghazi is a laughable joke,” Dean proclaimed twice in a discussion with Republican National Committee communications chairman Sean Spicer last week. “With all due respect, governor, when four Americans die serving this country, that’s not a joke, sir,” Spicer responded. “Oh, stop it,” said Dean. The former Democratic presidential candidate also said that there were “no serious questions being asked about Benghazi” and brushed it off as an effort by Republicans to score political points.

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.
