| A former member of the notorious Manson Family and a two-time convicted killer was granted parole on Thursday, but there was no definitive word on whether he might be released from prison because the ruling is subject to a mandatory review, California prison officials said. Bruce Davis, 69, has been in state prison since his 1972 conviction. He was previously granted parole in 2010 but remained in prison after that decision was reversed by then California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, a Republican.
|
Comments: I wonder if Jerry Brown, a Democrat, will have the guts to reverse this one? None of the Manson gang should ever walk free. Not ever.

We already have Squeaky Fromme living about a mile and a half from our house here in New York. Wouldn't be surprised to hear this dude moved in around here too. The county I live in is a magnet for just-released parolees, because they don't have to establish residency here to begin collecting welfare, food stamps, and all the other government freebies. There goes the neighborhood...

Bruce Davis, whose unsmiling mug is in Vince Bugliosi and Curt Gentry's Helter Skelter (the #1 selling true crime book of all time), was convicted of two murders along with the idiotic Steve Grogan, and should never see another day of freedom in this life. But neither of those killers participated in the Tate-LaBianca slaughters of August 9-10, 1969.
Nonetheless, forty years is not enough for these malevolent creatures. They should have all seen the inside of the hermetically sealed Green Room at San Quentin where the cyanide egg plops into the sulfuric acid and the condemned try to hold their breath.

Davis was considered a good suspect in the Zodiac Killer spree. He's not someone who should be walking the street. If you want to parole him to a hut on Alcatraz, fine.

Among the criteria by which the Internal Revenue Service selected groups in for its political targeting program in 2012 was "educating on the constitution and bill of rights" (lowercase in original), according to the Inspector General´s Report. Lois Lerner, who directs the office at the center of that effort, has received her own education in the Constitution.(Snip)Josh Marshall, proprietor of TalkingPointsMemo.com, concedes that Lerner "has every right" to invoke the Fifth Amendment "and may be wise to do so. But that´s a decision that simply is not consistent with her remaining in her job.

CINCINNATI, OH - The claim that the ongoing IRS scandal is limited to low level employees is falling apart. The six Cincinnati workers we have identified, who sent scrutinizing letters to conservative groups with words including "patriot, liberty, tea party or 9-12" in their names are Mitchel Steele, Carly Young, Joseph Herr, Stephen Seok, Liz Hofacre and a woman identified only as Ms. Richards. (Snip) Because all six of our IRS workers have different individual and territory managers, Cindy Thomas is one manager they all have common.

We can now officially call the Obama administration besieged. One of President Obama´s underlings is set to plead her Fifth Amendment Right against self-incrimination in the burgeoning IRS scandal. The Los Angeles Times broke the story: Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won´t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening - or why she didn´t disclose it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor III. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday.

Apple is one of America´s most profitable companies. And it pays a substantial income tax bill to the U.S. government -- by its own account, $6 billion in 2012 and an estimated $7 billion this year. But many tax experts and lawmakers say Apple´s tax bill should be bigger. A lot bigger. The concern is that Apple (Snip), while complying with U.S. laws, is nevertheless taking advantage of loopholes in the tax code to shift a substantial amount of income to offshore subsidiaries in low-tax countries. The result is billions of dollars in profits every year that go untaxed.

You almost have to admire Carl Levin´s timing. Amid a furor over politicized IRS tax enforcement, the Michigan Democrat on Tuesday tried to change the subject to a hardy Washington perennial—corporate tax loopholes. Too bad his designated business pinata, Apple, AAPL -0.74% demonstrates instead the insanity of the tax code that Mr. Levin has done so much to write. Mr. Levin unveiled the results of his months-long investigation into Apple´s corporate taxes (Snip)What Mr. Levin did not do was present any evidence of anything illegal or even inappropriate. He did prove that Apple has smart accountants and tax lawyers.

WASHINGTON — As the Internal Revenue Service´s last two directors struggled to provide answers Tuesday about the agency´s improper scrutiny of conservative groups, a lawyer for another key IRS official said she would invoke the 5th Amendment rather than answer questions about the screening and why she didn´t tell Congress about it. Lois Lerner, director of exempt organizations for the IRS, will assert her right against self-incrimination during her scheduled appearance Wednesday before the House oversight panel.

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

Former Democratic National committee chairman Howard Dean considers the controversy over Benghazi a “joke” and “silly.” “Benghazi is a laughable joke,” Dean proclaimed twice in a discussion with Republican National Committee communications chairman Sean Spicer last week. “With all due respect, governor, when four Americans die serving this country, that’s not a joke, sir,” Spicer responded. “Oh, stop it,” said Dean. The former Democratic presidential candidate also said that there were “no serious questions being asked about Benghazi” and brushed it off as an effort by Republicans to score political points.
