DENVER – A stunned Obama campaign acknowledged Thursday that President Barack Obama delivered a lackluster and even ineffectual performance in his leadoff debate against Mitt Romney, mistakenly opting for a cautious approach to handling his opponent that all too often left Obama looking timid and disengaged. Democrats close to the president privately acknowledge that their candidate appeared flat and uninspired against a more animated challenger, resulting in the worst debate showing he’s had since the early days of the 2008 campaign. Even more frustrating to many Obama supporters was the fact that the president’s muted tone was at least Headline split by staff.

Comments: Strategy?? What strategy? Obama has never been the nation’s most forceful debater?? That's sure not what they have previously told us! They are in full CYA mode. It is absolutely delightful to behold.

Lehrer didn't ask Romney to explain the 47% and Obama's entire debate was based on that happening.

That's the biggest hunk of baloney voters have been asked to swallow in a long time. Obama dislikes "theatrics"? Well, I was fooled, what with Grecian columns and phony rap cadences. Al Gore tells us Obama was not accustomed to Denver's altitude. Well, he's handled it ok in years past. Axelrod laments that Lehrer didn't help Obama out.
They don't want us to decide that Obama was too arrogant to adequately prepare, too smug to consider Romney is a better debater, too lazy to gather his facts, and too thin-skinned to keep his anger from showing.
Yes, it was a bad night for the president, but he has only himself to blame.

FTA "Obama has never been the nation’s most forceful debater, and he makes no secret of his disdain for the theatrical side of politics."
Politico does remember the Greek Columns right? Designed by Steven Spielberg? Barack Obama is the Wizard of Oz, with Valerie Jarrett and who knows else behind the theatrical curtain!

Hanging out with Beyonce and JZ because prepping was 'a drag' and he wanted to play tourist at the Hoover Dam was the sum total of his debate strategy.
Nope, didn't work.

Oh so it's not that 0bama stinks it's just that his strategy was wrong, this one time. That's like saying a general who has lost every battle is still a good general, he just has some bad tactics. 0bama is an inept malignant narcissist. No one on his staff either realizes or dares to tell him he's no damn good a debating because he hasn't the brain for it.

Obama's strategy failed because Lehrer did not ask the kind of question you can answer with a pre-memorized talking point. Did anyone else notice this? Obama would occasionally rattle off a full 4 or 5 sentence cadence without a single Uhm or Err and absolutely no pause before spitting it out, and then just STOP look completely confused and start to stammer and fidget.
Lehrer didn't ask "Mr Preezy, explain your position on meicare and why Romneys will fail". He asked a single question of BOTH candidates "Can you explain the differences in your policy compared to that of your opponent?"
Obama could not handle the compare and contrast format because it did not fit a bumper sticker.
Obama didn't have his beloved teleprompter, but he had memorized a bunch of screenshots from it. WHen he steered off those memorized soundbites, he simply floundered ignorantly and repeated the same shrill meaningless blather that got him elected last time.
Except this time he has a record, and despite his repeated blaming of Bush, he still cannot tell us how he is going to fix what he hasn't bothered to fix in 4 very long and very hard (for us, he's been on vacation) years.

How much did Axelrod pay Burns to write this pile of fluff? Zero doesn't like theatrics and show. hORSE-POOP! That's all he is; is facade, styrofoam grecian columns, all fluff, no grit, no heart; just a hot-shot community organizing thug!
But he's a hero on the 'View' - that's his element, THAT'S WHERE HE SHINES!!!

This was a nicely crafted article. 3 separate times he alluded to possible future attacks the Dems could make on Romney, and NOT ONCE does he mention the validity of what Romney said about the failed policies and broken promises. This is the game plan. You didn't see Romney crush him in the debate. You saw The Divine Being being above the mental capacity of we great unwashed. I'm thinking maybe another Nobel is in store for Obama.

A bipartisan group of House members introduced legislation on Wednesday to protect journalists from government snooping. “Freedom of the press is a foundational freedom upon which all of our other freedoms and liberties are based and protected,” said Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.). The Free Flow of Information Act, H.R. 1962, would protect reporters by preventing the government from compelling the disclosure of their source material, except under certain exceptions that must go through judicial review. Those exceptions include cases where it is necessary to prevent an act of terrorism, imminent death, or other harm to national security.

Under President Obama, "justice" is anything but blind. Neither is it deaf. In fact, based on recent revelations, it appears to be watching your every move and listening to your every word. Still, if you happen to be a federal employee, now it´s even listening for your silence. The only thing this Obama White House seems to generate is scandal. Well, here´s yet another to add to the growing list. In addition to the Benghazi cover-up, IRS targeting of political dissenters and the illegal seizure of media phone records, whistleblowers within DOJ have contacted Liberty Counsel

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden met with three people at the White House Tuesday who are in the country illegally but received “deferred action” that allowed them to stay in the country under a memorandum issued by administration unilaterally last June in a memorandum issued by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano. In all, Obama and Biden met with eight people advocating for comprehensive immigration reform on Tuesday, according to White House readout of the meeting. The White House readout of the meeting listed three of those as having received “deferred action.”

I’m certainly not going to do that. So people may hear things that are true, they may hear things that are not true, but I’m going to try to keep being focused on issues that are important to

WASHINGTON — The Tea Party wants former Alaska governor Sarah Palin to join their favorites in the Senate, Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Rand Paul (R-Ky.). They say she can win and they have a poll to prove it. Yikes, is America ready for a Senator Palin? The Tea Party Leadership Fun commissioned a Harper Poll that shows Sarah Palin leads the Republican field in Alaska for the upcoming Senate seat. It is only by 2 points (32 to 30%), but that is without her even saying she is interested. Not that Democrat Sen. Mark Begich is planning

WASHINGTON - Republican Representative Darrell Issa said on Thursday he will call Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner back to testify before his committee on the IRS-Tea Party scandal after she asserted her constitutional right not to answer questions. "We are obligated to bring Lerner back because she did not properly take the Fifth (Amendment)," Issa said. "She clearly chose to make her statements and then not open herself up to even any questioning as to the statement she made," said Issa, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

The growing IRS-Tea Party scandal, which has robbed Democrats of the so-called "trust edge" they held over Republicans, is now jeopardizing the Democratic majority in the Senate and even hopes that Hillary Clinton will replace President Obama in 2016. "This hurts the Democratic Party and will hurt anybody who runs for president in 2016," said former Clinton White House counsel Lanny Davis, a major supporter of Hillary Clinton. Speaking on national radio´s Andrea Tantaros Show, he added that if the the White House had prior knowledge of the IRS scandal,

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to
