CHARLESTON — The Faculty Senate at Eastern Illinois University on Tuesday approved three resolutions related to issues involving Chick-fil-A. A fourth measure — supporting the ouster of the restaurant chain’s site on campus — failed on a 3-6 vote, with five abstentions. Proposed by Faculty Senate member Stacey Knight-Davis, it stated: “...Faculty Senate supports the non-renewal of the current Chick-fil-A agreement.”

The Chick-fil-A logo has been deemed a symbol of hate speech. Still awaiting the senate's decision on rainbow flags.

“Whereas the current Chick-fil-A controversy has altered the campus climate ..."

No, Stacy, there is no "controversy" - except in your narrow little mind.
No, Stacy, Chick-fil-A hasn't "altered the campus climate" - except in your narrow little mind.

FTA: Another approved resolution asks that Chick-fil-A’s contract at Eastern’s Martin Luther King Jr. University Union be either renegotiated every year or that the retail space be subject to open bidding.

Some real business geniuses there at EIU (Mrs. Baseball Fan's alma mater). What retailer is going to want to lease space for just one year? A typical retail space of 1,500 SF can take 3 months to build out - leaving them a whopping 9 months before they're forced to renew or leave? Oh - wait - these are faculty members - they don't burden themselves with reality.

And the abstentions - I see there are some Obamanauts at EIU, though that's no real surpise.

I now eat at Chick fil-A once a week. The store is full, the service is great and Mr Cathy is raking in the cash to the glory of Jesus Christ. Thank you very much. Amen.

The irony is that they have no idea how few places they would have to trade, spend their dollars, and patronize if they knew the politics of all those decision makers within the corporations.....

Bottom line....if you don't like Chick Fil-a's politics or moreover, don't like its 1st amendments rights being allowed to exist....eat at Burger King.

These are the people that the university system is going to turn loose on society to torture the sane among us....

So now a company is a symbol of hate. But hate organizations (New Black Panthers) gets a pass. By the way, EIU has an endowment of just over 33 million bucks in 2009 that ranked EIU as 602 among endowments. Harvard was number 1 at 25.6 billion dollars. So this isn't a successful university at generating donations. One wonders how insulting Christians will go over when it comes to improving that endowment. The President of the University would do well to tell the faculty Senate to worry more about producing competent students and less on money killing proclamations.

I think the faculty should have better things to worry about than a sandwich shop. Seriously.

There's a lesbian prof on the campus where I work who called for a boycott of Chick-fil-A until someone asked her how she'd like it if her pub was boycotted because she is gay.

Chick-fil-A is going strong and her pub is still in business as both should be.

I think it's time for another Love Chick-Fil-A Day in America! We eat there all the time anyway because we love the food, but this just makes me want to support them all the more.

Chicago, used to be a big town--but now it's filled with small minds. The smallest is now Pre...oh,oh, might be deemed hate speech, better not say it!

Cheers to the best chicken sandwiches and homespun shakes in town!

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

Eva Longoria is backing up her beauty with a whole lot of brain. The actress graduated with a master´s degree Wednesday. Longoria, 38, took home a real degree (not an honorary one) in Chicano studies from Cal State Northridge, where she physically attended classes for three years, according to TMZ. "Big day today!!! Very excited to graduate for my master´s degree in Chicano studies! You´re never too old or too busy to continue your education!" the actress wrote on her Who Say site Wednesday, sharing loads of pics of her big day, posing with her family, cohorts and diploma.

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. What was a DHS agent doing at the San Jose Tea Party protest? (snip) they weren´t just spying on us in San Jose and monitoring us in San Francisco, they were watching us throughout the entire state

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”
