Mitt Romney's garbage man is starring in a new attack ad that features him at work picking up trash outside the Republican nominee's $12 million California mansion. The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) labor union features the garbage man in an ad that juxtaposes him talking about how tough his job it with Romney's notorious '47 per cent' comments in which he says that 'my job is not to worry about those people' who don't pay federal income tax. In the ad, the garbage man states: 'My name is Richard Hayes, and I pick up
My dad always taught me that there was no shame in an honest day's work, and to be especially grateful to the guys who do the dirty jobs. Don't think my dad would've thought too much of this guy, though. He also taught me that you don't whine about your circumstances, you change them.
Waste Management Co. picks up almost all San Diego County trash, including LaJolla. From its website:
Keep your children and pets at a safe distance from the truck. Our drivers love to see happy neighbors during their routes, but prefer that you stay on the front porch or in the yard - do not get near or climb on the truck whether it is parked or at work. http://www.wastemanagementsd.com/about/safety.asp
Nothing about hugging, but it is tough to hug from the front porch or the yard, especially when your house is on a hill above the road.
our local garbage collection guys do lift the cans. They did so in IL also. But when we lived in CA all the trucks were equipped with ''arms'' that lifted the cans. I also went digging around and found that the average waste collector makes approx $20.28 per hour in CA. Data I located didn't mention union membership or local pay variances. And they WILL NOT collect anything NOT in a can. That's a special collection at an additional cost.
I remember in Chicago that getting on as a garbage collector (particularly as a driver) was a job you could only get thru ''connections''. Don't know exactly how it works now but when we lived in the city you truly had to ''know'' someone...
He won't be picking up Romney's trash for long. Mitt should hire a private contractor and dump the union goon brand of service. Or better yet, hire somebody to check the trashmens' IDs every trip to make sure they aren't a threat.
Well one thing is for sure this guy will always be known as a trash man. Others on the route should call the company there is no telling what this guy will do to destroy the people on the route with his mouth.
Growing up, my brother always said he wanted to be a garbage man. Our neighbor was one, and he had the best house, the newest & flashiest car, a cabin-cruiser docked at a nice marina, and his kids had all the latest toys.
Oh my, my, my. Now Mitt Romney has LOST the TRASH-Collector vote? A pathetic union-whiner named Richard Hayes, who is Mitt Romney's PERSONAL garbage man, appears in an AD complaining about "No hugs", "No appreciation"? Boohoo! Must be a pretty MACHO trash collector, eh? Let this genius, Hayes, name ONE demonrat who DOES care about him and he may be worth paying attention to. BTW, WHAT does the $12m "mansion" have to do with Mitt Romney "not caring". Never mind..
Democrats have justifiably rejoiced in the divisions within the Republican Party which hamper its ability to speak with one voice and act with unity of purpose. The tea party faction within the GOP, once an unalloyed good that propelled the party to electoral victory in 2010, has been more of a headache than a boon ever since. The conservative faction of the Grand Old Party is often credited with robbing the party of electoral victories, torpedoing bipartisan legislative deals, and elevating gaffe-prone voices that force the GOP’s moderates to adopt a perpetual defensive crouch. The temptation for Democrats to partake
NEW YORK- The Fender Stratocaster that Bob Dylan plugged in when he famously went electric at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival sold Friday for nearly $1 million - the highest price ever paid for a guitar at auction.A buyer identified only as a private individual agreed to pay $965,000, including the auction house´s fees, for the sunburst-finish guitar, Christie´s said. Dylan´s legendary performance at the festival in Rhode Island 48 years ago marked his rupture with the folk movement´s old guard and solidified his shift away from acoustic music, like "Blowin´ in the Wind," toward amplified rock, such as "Like
In late October, Texas Gov. Rick Perry went to Israel, not a surprising trip for a potential presidential candidate whose pro-Zionist views are well known. However, less widely known is his role in a breakthrough of sorts in academia and U.S.-Israeli relations. The Jerusalem Post reported: Texas A&M University will open a branch in Nazareth by October 2015 . . . The new institution, to be called the Peace Campus, will promote coexistence for the sake of education with a student population combining Arab, Jewish and foreign students. The faculty will be drawn from Arab, Jewish and international scholars. .
Murfreesboro, N.C.- Snow came early to the cotton and sorghum fields here, sending dozens of cash-strapped families to the food bank on a recent afternoon for frozen chickens, cucumbers and canned green beans. Quinetta Rascoe was waiting for them. Wearing a bright pink overcoat, a glittery rainbow scarf and an infectious grin, Rascoe climbed out of a Toyota sedan carrying a stack of Obamacare brochures. She eyed about 60 cars that were snaking into the parking lot behind Murfreesboro Baptist Church, prompting an unusual traffic jam one block off the town´s dozy Main Street. The food truck was late, and
Los Angeles County sheriff´s detectives allege that two men stole the t-top roof panel of a $400,000 Porsche after it crashed Saturday in Santa Clarita, killing "Fast and Furious" star Paul Walker and another man. The department announced Thursday that one man was in custody and that another suspect was expected to surrender to detectives soon. The one suspect, 18-year-old Jameson Witty, was arrested on suspicion of grand theft and tampering with evidence. He was being held on $20,000 bail, officials said. In a news release, the Sheriff´s Department said the alleged theft occurred while the Porsche was being towed away.
Washington -The young black university student who walked up to the microphone at an anti-apartheid rally in 1980 was, by his own admission, cynical about the virtues of political activism. Barack Obama had spent his early years of college submerged in books by African American writers by the likes of James Baldwin, W E B Du Bois and Malcolm X, wrestling with his own mixed racial identity. But it was the campaign for equality thousands of miles away in South Africa that first spurred Obama, then aged 19, into action: taking part in a divestment rally in his sophomore year
Elaborate funeral plans have been set in motion in South Africa following the death of the country’s revered first black president Nelson Mandela. The memorial, expected to last ten days, will be an unparalleled event in South Africa’s history, drawing a plethora of foreign dignitaries of every stripe, royals and a smattering of celebrities. South African President Jacob Zuma ordered the nation´s flags to be flown at half-mast beginning today and to remain that way until after Mandela´s funeral, which he announced would be held next Sunday. I have never been much of a conspiracy theorist. For me it was always Oswald by himself from the Texas School Book Depository and nothing in the intervening fifty years has disabused me of this notion. For the most part, I’m an Occam’s Razor kind of guy — the most obvious explanation is likely to be true. (Snip) To put it bluntly, Occam’s Razor has moved. Things that were once possibilities now seem almost certainties to me. Principal among those is that Obama’s academic records are perpetually unavailable for a reason — and that reason is most likely that they reveal
One of President Obama´s chief political assets has been his ability to excite young people like almost no politician in history. But the days of America´s youth fawning over the president are over. A new Harvard University Institute of Politics poll released Wednesday confirms what other surveys have shown in recent months: Millennials have soured on Obama so much this year that their opinion of him largely mirrors the American public´s. Even though Obama does not ever have to face another election, he should be worried about the findings for a couple of reasons, which we will dive into momentarily.
Last summer on his $100 million family tour of Africa, Barack Obama hoped for a priceless photo op with Nelson Mandela, the ailing freedom pioneer who went from prison cell to the presidency of South Africa. Mandela´s family suggested that wouldn’t happen. So, the Obamas did a photo op in Mandela´s former prison cell. Which Obama’s White House quickly tweeted upon word of the icon´s passing at 95. [Skip] But Obama was also caught staring at television coverage of Mandela’s passing, which became Obama’s Photo of the Day.
Hardly a week goes by without Hillary Clinton receiving another award. Last month she was named a “Global Champion” by the International Medical Corps, received the American Patriot Award at the National Defense University Foundation and the Hermandad Award from the Mexican American Leadership Initiative. [Snip] At this rate, if a bunch of elderly left-wing Swedes toss her the Nobel Peace Prize early on, the way they did to Obama, it will barely rate mention among all the other glittering trophies that have been bestowed on a woman whose only actual accomplishment was being married to a crooked governor with
A stunning new study unveiled on Fox News´ Hannity finds that President Barack Obama’s White House calendar records just one face-to-face meeting between Obama and his Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in the more than three-and-a-half years leading up to the disastrous Obamacare launch. The startling statistic comes from a new Government Accountability Institute (GAI) analysis of Obama’s own official White House calendar, as well as the Politico presidential calendar, and raises new questions about Obama’s executive leadership and management throughout the implementation of his singular legislative achievement. More alarming still, the president’s schedule lists 277 private
Speaker John Boehner said his party should support gay Republican congressional candidates and urged his colleagues to “be a little more sensitive” when running against women. “Some of our members just aren’t as sensitive as they ought to be,” Boehner said. When asked if he thinks his party should support gay candidates, Boehner simply said: “I do.”
Amid an array of “knock-out” attacks against a number of Jews in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood, a city councilwoman pointed to the success of the Jewish community as triggering the aggression. Councilwoman-elect Laurie Cumbo emphasized that while she “admire[s] the Jewish community immensely” for its work ethic, black teens may see it differently. “While I personally regard this level of tenacity, I also recognize that for others, the accomplishments of the Jewish community triggers feelings of resentment, and a sense that Jewish success is not also their success,” Cumbo, who was recently elected, wrote in a letter. Chief among the issues
