in key battleground states

Requests from military voters for absentee ballots have dropped significantly since 2008, according to newly released statistics, prompting claims that the Department of Defense is dragging its feet in enacting a law meant to boost military voting. The drop in the battleground states of Virginia and Ohio is among the most pronounced. According to statistics released Monday by The Military Voter Protection Project, the number of absentee ballot requests by both military members and other overseas voters in the two states has dropped 70 percent since 2008.

Are the requests actually down and those in the military got regular absentee ballots when they were home or are the requests FOR the ballots being hidden or lost? I don't believe that fewer people in the military want to vote and not by the high percentage cited in the article.

Dark and ugly forces are at work here.

Our brave warriors go where they are told and depend upon the command for every movement, every meal and every piece of paper which might or might not be made available to them.

This is REAL Disfranchisement.

This is not a trend or an error.

It may have to do with the fact that there are fewer troops in Iraq. They will vote in person.

I suggest everyone who has a loved one overseas get them the necessary paperwork and send it to them.Use the mail or UPS or FAX but get it to them! Also alert their unit's JAG people and inform them these troops are being denied their right to vote. Then we hollar at the election people to expect votes to come in thru unusual sources - JAG people step in here and do their thing. THIS IS A CRYING SHAME!!! We need to bend every branch, twig and neck to get our people's legal votes recorded. Let's just think it through. You people know what must be done to do it. Let's move on this...Come on, people, let's get it DONE!! I they can die for us, the least we can do is help them vote!!

What #3, #6 and especially #9 said. Is there no end to the contempt this administration and their lackeys in the Pentagon have for the citizens of this Country? There is NO way on Earth that Military ballot requests are down 70%!! And this so-called "Military Voter PROTECTION Agency? Seriously?? For Heaven's Sake, WHERE are the REPUBLICANS?

Not sure; may also be indicative of a lack of minority-military-American disinterest in this election vs. 2008.

In 2000, it was Ken Bacon, Pentagon spokesnerd.
Now DemocRATS have found a faceless way to get the vote suppressed.
This must not be allowed to stand - but then again, it's pretty well too late.

Within the context of keeping the Syrian jihad alive, it seems there is no end to the attempts of some Islamic clerics to legitimize otherwise forbidden behavior in order to gratify the sexual urges of the jihadis and keep them fighting Syrian president Bashar Assad. First, there was the now infamous “sex-jihad” fatwa, which holds that any Muslim woman who willingly allows her body to be used by the sexually-deprived jihadis becomes herself a jihadi, if not a “martyr,” deserving of all the honor and rewards associated with those titles.

The soldier who opened fire at Fort Hood army base on Wednesday has now been identified as Ivan Lopez, a 34-year-old married father who had just moved to Texas with his wife and young daughter three weeks before the shooting. Lopez previously served in the Army National Guard in Puerto Rico and did one four-month tour of duty in Iraq occurred in 2011. He was not wounded in action while serving overseas, but self-reported a traumatic brain injury upon his return to the U.S.

Ezekiel Emanuel has written extensively, before and after he helped draft ObamaCare, about who should get medical care, who should decide, and whose life is worth saving. Emanuel is part of a school of thought that redefines a physician’s duty, insisting that it includes working for the greater good of society instead of focusing only on a patient’s needs. Many physicians find that view dangerous, and most Americans are likely to agree.

It is a tender, natural and intimate portrait which shows, for the first time, something of the personality of young Prince George. Released on his first Mothering Sunday, this official portrait – in a relaxed style perfectly reflecting the Duke and Duchess’s very modern approach to Royalty – depicts the eight-month-old as a curious, affectionate toddler, gazing into the eyes of the family’s beloved Lupo. George seems devoted to the cocker spaniel and, judging by the adoration on Lupo’s face, the sentiments are returned.

You won’t read about the International Classification of Disease (ICD) on TMZ or hear it discussed on The View, but it has the potential to be an unpleasant October surprise in the health care world. It is a list of codes that physicians and hospitals use when billing insurance companies. These codes cover all manner of medical diagnoses for diseases, conditions, and injuries. The first version of the ICD appeared in 1946, with periodic revisions since. Six months from now, on October 1, the latest version, the ICD-10, will be implemented in the U.S.

For eight years, the media envisioned Dick Cheney as the ‘evil genius’ behind the Bush White House, but few in the media have wanted to take a long look at the ‘evil genius’ behind the Obama White House. The populist grass roots myth died shortly after Obama was elected and while plenty of books have been written about the internal workings of the Obama campaign and administration, unlike the books written about Bush, they rarely inform mainstream media news coverage.

It was a turning point in my life. Some people remember where they were when Kennedy was killed or Apollo 11 landed on the moon. I remember where I was the day Terri Schiavo died. I was crying in a bathroom stall at work, wondering what kind of merciless country I lived in. It was nine years ago this month. Looking back at the appeals and legislation surrounding the Terri Schiavo case makes my head spin. At the time, my family and I followed every twist, every turn, and every detail of her family’s struggle to keep her alive. Frankly I’d rather not look back. It only reminds of how messed up our laws were, and how much farther we’ve

Neurosurgeon Ben Carson says the White House wanted him to apologize for “offending” President Obama after he famously delivered a conservative message at the National Prayer Breakfast last year. Carson, the former director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, recalls the events surrounding his 2013 speech in his new book, One Nation: What We Can All Do To Save America’s Future. The Daily Caller obtained an advance copy of the book, which is set for release May 20. “He did not appear to be hostile or angry,” Carson writes of Obama, “but within a matter of minutes after the conclusion of

President Obama inspired a generation of young people to support his historic election in 2008. And in 2012, despite the struggles of his first term, Mr. Obama still managed to win the support of a full 60% of voters age 18-29. But the man who once dreamed of being a transformative leader in the Reagan mold is inspiring few of those young people to follow his lead. "For all the talk about the movement that elected Mr. Obama, the more notable movement of Obama supporters has been away from politics. It appears that few of the young people who voted

On Saturday, I wrote about the standoff at Bundy Ranch. That post drew a remarkable amount of traffic, even though, as I wrote then, I had not quite decided what to make of the story. Since then, I have continued to study the facts and have drawn some conclusions. Here they are. First, it must be admitted that legally, Bundy doesn’t have a leg to stand on. The Bureau of Land Management has been charging him grazing fees since the early 1990s, which he has refused to pay. Further, BLM has issued orders limiting the area on which Bundy’s cows can

Chelsea Clinton says when people ask her these days whether she wants to go into politics, her answer isn’t an automatic “no.” The 34-year-old former first daughter told Fast Company in an interview published Monday, “for so long the answer was just a visceral no. Not because I had made any conscientious, deliberate decision, but since people had been asking for as long as literally I could remember, it was no." Now, the only child of former President Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton explains, "I live in a city and a state and a country where I

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)

Megyn Kelly’s "Kelly File" is a great news show. She’s incisive, informed and customarily handles the toughest guest with aplomb. But her lengthy interview of Facebook C.O.O. Sheryl Sandberg about her second book in the Lean In series Lean In: For Graduates was a head shaker. Amazing that she of all people allowed Sandberg to restring the same old, same old, shamed, and shopworn feminist myths about women and girls and then jangle it in front of her viewing audience like something new out of the box. Indeed Kelly all but genuflected in front of this woman. Kept her on thru

Western Washington University sent a questionnaire to students asking them for advice on how the administration could succeed at making sure that in future years, “we are not as white as we are today.” The question notes that WWU’s racial make up does not perfectly reflect the nation at large, and asks students to consider strategies that other universities have used to focus on skin color as the paramount indicator of a student-applicant’s worth. The president of WWU has stated that his explicit goal is to reduce the white population on campus, according to Campus Reform. “I’ve said before and I’ll say it
