Who are the human faces of the U.S. government's botched "Fast and Furious" gun-walking operation? Often lost amid the rancor in Washington are the stories of dozens of people killed by guns that flowed south as part of the undercover operation, and later slipped out of view from U.S. officials. Univision's Investigative Unit (Univision Investiga) has identified massacres committed using guns from the ATF operation, including the killing of 16 young people attending a party in a residential area of Ciudad Juárez in January of 2010. Headline split, source corrected.
Comments: Anyway you look at it, the callousness of the Obama administration toward these casualties of its 'gunwalking' of 1000s of weapons into the hands of the narco-terrorists in Mexico is stunning.
Watched the promo. Someone makes the statement that Americans don't care about deaths beyond their borders. That might be true to some extent, but the US Latino vote will be effected when this story airs.
The Univision special will air with English sub-titles. 70PM (EST)
1. It wasn't "botched" despite the media meme. The goal was to create a [phony but] believable "trail" of US guns into drug cartel hands.
2. The guns didn't "slip out of view," as there were never any tracking devices used by Holder.
3. That said, and risking mis-interpretation of how serious F&F is and must be taken, it must be said that Mexico is in a fight for survival against the cartels. But Mexico seems to lack both the needed "weapons" [enough honest military and police; honest courts that can survive the Cartels' violence] and the indispensable will. Most of al, the Mexican federal gov't seems to come short.
Like I said, trying to foment a US-Mexico war, but I really didn't think the ATF would be involved. They are made to do cartoon type stuff that plays to our stereotypes, and we are made to do cartoon type stuff that plays to theirs. Eventually somebody comes along and undertakes some provocative night time shooting and spreads some rumors and you have got yourself a war, which Obama will jump into and enjoy because it isn't about the big right-left narrative. There is no way to avoid being manipulated except to see the other side, now, early.
The reason Univision is (so far) the only media company to air this is because the media generally is working to get President Obama re-elected. I learned years ago while working in intelligence that the Arab translators were generally sympathetic to the Arab positions and the Hebrew translators to the Israeli positions. That is human nature. Spanish speakers will care more about Mexican police deaths than US non-Spanish speakers will be. (obviously a generalization). However video has the power to move opinion. The interviews with the mothers of the teens that will killed by US supplied guns could very well move this into a campaign issue.
Amazing but not surprising.. Obviously they have a vested interest in getting this information out to the public, still UNIVISION is the ONLY network to broadcast the real story of F & F! and the drug-cartel-enabler-obama. FNC has made a few tries at it, but not like this one. Hope all those hispanic voters-for-obama will be watching!
ABC is no friend of conservatives, so why would anyone automatically assume ABC/Univison would do anything that would damning to Obama? Don't kid yourself, This is a vehicle to exonerate Obama. This show will provide reassurance to the Hispanic community that Obama is their only hope.
Sure, the show will criticize Obama, but its main objective will be to provide excuses for everything it presents. Obama will go scot free and if anything. He and his staff will look like angels looking out for the rest of us.
Don't let one critical interview of Obama set you up for disappointment.
I'm not surprised that it's Univision making this effort. I was in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico when this story first started to break. I was sitting at a conference table in a major manufacturing operation with a half dozen Mexican engineers and we were supposed to be working on some engineering issues. The meeting dissolved into an angry discussion about fast and furious. They were very upset about this then and still are to this day (I work with these guys every week).
If you think you can't get the show because you don't have Univision, check listings for the name of the show "Aqui y Ahora". I don't get the station called "Univision" on my DirecTv but the show is on ch. 14 KDTV locally.
I think some posters may be right...they may just make it look like incompetence with no knowledge or accountability attributed to Holder or Obama. But, I will still hope (just won't hold my breath!) that it is presented as it should be.
Obama and those around him who echo his marxist/socialist/communists thinking are very COLD hearted. How else can you explain their response to Mexicans and Americans dying because Fast and Furious, going to Las Vegas on the day we learned our Ambassador to Libya's was murdered?
I remember reading that some drug lord who was incarcerated in Chicago wanted to spill the beans that F and F was about drugs. If Chicago is the drug hub, no wonder there are so many murders every weekend and Rahm does nothing about it.
I am ready to hear the dirty truth about F and F and have someone in the W.H. or DOJ pay for their crimes. No wonder Daley bailed on his Chicago pals on the Potomac.
I wish I'd gotten on line an hour ago - we missed DVRing it. Does anyone know if it will be rerun? I can't believe the Mexican government hasn't pursued this harder against our government, but then they are the recipients of our money thru their relatives living here and lots of our tax dollars known as foreign aid. Their politicians are like ours, filthy (mostly).
I kept trying to find it on Time Warner cable.couldn't..and then could not get thru to TW on my local phone number. said they were experiencing a high number of calls and to call back later.but maybe it wasn't on there...?? frustrating.
There is a page at Univision that has some vidios of this. Don't know if this is what is airing tonight... However it is in Spanish. If many of us ask, perhaps they will subtitle it in English. The site is at:
Americans don't care?? Nooooooo. The Administration adored by the media, as well as the Latino vote wranglers and Dem bosses don't care. There's a difference. We care alot and feel anguish for every life lost--and those that will be killed in the future by these psychos.
Who is responsible for the failure to answer the urgent pleas for help that were issued during the attack in Benghazi? Paul considered the question yesterday here, reasonably attributing the responsibility to President Obama.
WASHINGTON - The White House on Saturday flatly denied that President Barack Obama withheld requests for help from the besieged American compound in Benghazi, Libya, as it came under on attack by suspected terrorists on September 11th. "Neither the president nor anyone in the White House denied any requests for assistance in Benghazi," National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor told Yahoo News by email. Please post source in site style. Staff has corrected.
The Benghazi debacle has three parts: how we neglected security while al-Qaeda was building a presence in Libya; whether the administration tried to mislead the public as to the nature of the attack; and now whether the administration denied pleas for help from operatives on the ground at the consulate. Now, presumably at the behest of Gen. David Petraeus — who has been remarkably tight-lipped and not defended his agency against White House accusations that senior officials’ misstatements were the fault of the CIA — the CIA threw the hot potato right back in the politicians’ laps.
Citing “sources who were on the ground” in Benghazi, Libya, Fox News is reporting that an urgent request for military help during last month’s terrorist attack on the US consulate there “was denied by the CIA chain of command.”
Mitt Romney has opened up a clear lead over Barack Obama in their presidential race. That owes a great deal to the candidates’ debate performances, of course. But something else is going on, too. In recent days, Obama’s approval rating has taken a perceptible hit. Via the Weekly Standard, we see that in the Rasmussen survey, only 47% approve of Obama’s job performance, while 52% disapprove. There are two plausible explanations for Obama’s current slide: voters may be disgusted by the mean, petty campaigning he is running, or they may disapprove of his handling of the Benghazi crisis. Or both.
Reports indicate two drones and an AC-130 gunship were in the area when Benghazi was attacked, yet their resources were not used. This runs completely against the current explanation coming out of the White House, which is that Obama did everything he could once he learned of the attack. You'll remember that in the second presidential debate, Obama said that as "soon as I was aware the Benghazi consulate was being overrun, I was on the phone with my national security team." The not-so-subtle intimation is that Obama was stepping up to the protect the U.S. personnel who were in Libya.
Washington — President Barack Obama will nominate Army Gen. David Rodriguez to succeed Gen. Carter Ham as commander of U.S. Africa Command and Marine Lt. Gen. John Paxton to succeed Gen. Joseph Dunford as assistant commandant of the Marine Corps, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta announced Thursday. Both appointments must be confirmed by the Senate. Rodriguez is the commander of U.S. Army Forces Command and has served in a “variety of key leadership roles on the battlefield,” Panetta said. He’s “a proven leader” who oversaw coalition and Afghan forces during
On his way to the podium at the memorial ceremony for former South African president Nelson Mandela, President Obama walked down the line of dignitaries, greeting other leaders there to pay their respects. Among the hands shaken: that of Cuban leader Raul Castro. Obama neither made a special effort to shake Castro’s hand nor to avoid him. A snub might have been awkward: In his speech, Obama praised Mandela’s “greatest gift” as “his recognition that we are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye; that there is a oneness to humanity; that we achieve ourselves by
The Obama State Department has finally released a second round of photos revealing the harrowing devastation wrought by a terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012. The new photographs depict rampant damage to the consulate. They show charred walls, smoldering fires, Arabic graffiti defacing exterior walls, and scattered debris throughout. The extent of the damage would lead any reasonably serious person to conclude that this was a cold, calculated attack, carefully coordinated to mark the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. Unfortunately for the American people, the Obama-Clinton-Rice cabal that led to the Benghazi cover-up was
A black fashion student says he was brutally attacked by a gang of Hasidic men who shouted anti-gay slurs at him while he was walking through Williamsburg after a night of partying, the Daily News has learned. Taj Patterson, 22, was headed home to Fort Greene around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 when he says more than a dozen ultra-Orthodox Jewish men began assaulting him on Flushing Ave. and yelling, “Stay down, f----t!”
US President Barack Obama may have moved the masses attending Nelson Mandela’s memorial service with his stirring eulogy, but it was his grinning "selfie" with the Danish and British premiers that set social networks abuzz. In a candid moment captured by a photographer, Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt can be seen holding up her smartphone, with Obama lending a helping hand, as they pose for a picture with David Cameron, all three of them smiling broadly in their seats at Soweto’s World Cup stadium.(Snip)Mashable, the news and technology website, ran the photograph under the headline: ‘‘Dear Obama: Funerals are no place
A “presidential selfie” featuring President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service began making the rounds this morning, but it’s the person not included in the frame who caught everyone’s attention: As anyone with two eyes and a Twitter account has noticed, Michelle Obama does not appear amused. Of course, though a picture says a thousand words, not all of those words are necessarily true. FLOTUS might not have even known the photo was taking place. Or she could disapprove of funeral selfies. Either way.
Just how much do many Hollywood liberals hate conservatives? In an interview with Playboy, Ben Affleck said, "When I watch a guy [on film] I know is a big Republican, part of me thinks, I probably wouldn’t like this person if I met him": PLAYBOY: You developed a political profile campaigning for presidential candidates Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama. How did that come about? AFFLECK: I grew up in a house with a mother who was a teacher and a Freedom Rider—very left-wing Democrats living in a heterogeneous working-class neighborhood. I picked up a lot of those values there, and I
MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry opened her program over the weekend with a commentary about the Affordable Care Act’s colloquial moniker: “Obamacare.” She said that the word was originally created as a “derogatory term,” designed by white men as a way to delegitimize President Barack Obama and his achievement. However, she said that the term will soon be synonymous with all of Obama’s accomplishments and she urged her audience to use the term with pride. “I want to talk today about a controversial word. It’s a word that has been with us for years, and like it or not, it’s indelibly
