Well, this makes my day.

I pulled up AOL this a.m. and HuffPo had a headline: "Ann Romney worried about Mitt's mental health". Based on her saying that, if he's elected, that's what she'd worry about the most because the job is so emotionally taxing. It was a clear answer but they got the sound byte they could twist.

It was coupled with another story that pulled some obscure thing out of his tax returns and turned it into something they wanted to be potentially damaging. Just like everyone figured they'd do -- oh yes, provide them with 10 years of tax returns they can twist and turn against you with the ignorant.

So, all that to say, I've been kind of down in the dumps about the election today. This is heartening.

The only recommendation a sane and fair paper could make.

Still, surprising, isn't?

As weak as this endorsement is, we'll take it.

If you want good oratory skills, attend a Toast Master's Club meeting. Obama's oratory skill is a myth. If he could speak easily and coherently when not using a teleprompter, then one could grade his skill. Okay, I'll give him a passing grade in "reading" - except he didn't know the difference between Marine Corps and Marine corpse.

My BA is in English (major) and a Public Speaking (minor). Reading a teleprompter is not a skill that is graded in Public Speaking courses that I'm aware of.

A small victory, but a victory nonetheless. It may encourage others in key swing states to do likewise.

But I suggest the following improvement in their article: "a TelePrompTer reader of great chin lift and cadence".

Some seem to be ignoring the most important thing about this endorsement. Its effect on Dems and Independents/Decline to States. It could give them second and third thoughts about Obit, especially if they were already getting cold feet re his reelection.

I believe we have to be careful about viewing everything through our prism. We know what we want. We should be happy about anything like this that could sway some Dems and the undecideds and Independents.

The Dallas Morning News may be capitalizing on the self-destruction campaign by it's principal competition in the DFW market, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Just as CNN seems to be trying to distinguish itself from MSNBC, the DMN may be trying to distinguish itself from the FWST.

The greater DFW population is overwhelmingly center-right politically, but if either paper would commit to keeping bias on the editorial page it would blow the other one away.

A leftwing editorial policy might be a pleasant comic relief, much like a neighborhood Obama-Biden yard sign or an Obama bumper sticker on a disabled Chevy Volt alongside the airport freeway. But a leftwing spin on the "hard news" page is regarded much like US and/or Texas flag burning.

This article is good news and should change some minds about Romney. I believe the conclusion speaks volumes about the contrast to an Administration known for its deceptions and exaggerations.

Another comment I should have included is the "reader comments" on the Editorial. Overwhelmingly pro-Obama! But that only emphasizes the significance of the endorsement.

I am stunned. I've been having an e-mail back and forth with the editor about the News' biased coverage of the Middle East situation.

For three days they went with the party line ... it was the video. Fourth day: silence. I was like, praise be to Allah, there's peace in the Middle East. The Fifth day a short piece that didn't mention the previous stories.

I subscribe to the DMN, the Star-Telegram and the Wall Street Journal. I grew up with the S-T, my husband likes the DMN's sports coverage and I read the Journal with breakfast.

When I moved to Texas 8 years ago I subscribed to both the Dallas and Austin papers. After 6 months I cancelled both of these left leaning rags and switched to WSJ and do not regret a day. Besides the WSJ wine club has some great deals.

Toward that end, I would add that separating the congress from the influence of the bar should be pursued. That lawyers make laws and return to the bar, after their terms in Congress, is the gold standard of 'conflict of interest.' I find it hard to believe that this has not been addressed by our Founders, somewhere.
I say, confine the lawyers to the Judicial Branch where they can support the laws our representatives craft, not make those laws as well.

The DMN was usually the conservative voice in a two newspaper town (Dallas Times Herald) 30 years ago. The competition made for good debate and a modicum of self-policing journalism. In the early 2000's, I began asking myself, if I don't believe the articles that the editorial staff of the DMN selects in my own area of expertise, why should I trust those editors with their selection of articles off the newswires in other areas? I stopped my DMN subscription about 2003 when I discovered Drudge. I was told about Lucianne about two years later. Lucianne and Drudge are now "my complementary newspapers" and my first sources of news.

The DMN sports page is a large reason for the subscriptions that they still have. I wonder, back about 2002-2004, if the DMN had broken its journalistic tailspin and had sought to be come the premier major conservative daily in the country, would they be in the trouble they are now?

This paper is in Texas -- there'll be a lot of people around them who will agree with them and support the endorsement.
