| Barack Obama will forever be a historic, as well as historical, figure in American life. Candidate Obama, an orator of great skill and cadence, might have overcome everything and put the U.S. on a brighter path. President Obama, unfortunately, fell short of the challenge. We see evidence of Obama’s shortcomings in his re-election campaign, a relentlessly negative push to disqualify his opponent instead of standing on his accomplishments.
|
Comments: This is a surprise coming for a generally conservative-bashing paper.

Well, this makes my day.
I pulled up AOL this a.m. and HuffPo had a headline: "Ann Romney worried about Mitt's mental health". Based on her saying that, if he's elected, that's what she'd worry about the most because the job is so emotionally taxing. It was a clear answer but they got the sound byte they could twist.
It was coupled with another story that pulled some obscure thing out of his tax returns and turned it into something they wanted to be potentially damaging. Just like everyone figured they'd do -- oh yes, provide them with 10 years of tax returns they can twist and turn against you with the ignorant.
So, all that to say, I've been kind of down in the dumps about the election today. This is heartening.

I must be living in an alternate universe, because I still haven't heard or seen "an orator of great skill and cadence" in describing Obama.
That's a lie like the rest of him.

FTA:
Obama’s Democratic supporters would argue that no one could have succeeded in what he inherited, that the nation’s problems were far more severe than anyone could handle in four years.
We respectfully disagree. On the central issue that will define his presidency — a stalled U.S. economy weighed down by crushing annual deficits and accumulated debt — Obama showed himself to be less leader than follower. While he expended his political capital on new government programs, unemployment stayed at debilitating heights.
For that reason, this newspaper recommends Republican challenger Mitt Romney for president.
We see evidence of Obama’s shortcomings in his re-election campaign, a relentlessly negative push to disqualify his opponent instead of standing on his accomplishments. His campaign has worn voters’ patience thin by constantly blaming predecessor George W. Bush for “the mess he left behind.”
Cleaning up that mess, however large, was what Americans trusted to Obama.
Thwap.

This, on the heels of Thursday's special edition of Saturday Night Live's frank treatment of Zippy's failures, might hint that the MSM's expect a defeat and want to be on record as backing the winning side.

Dollars to donuts, the orders were issued from on high to these leftists that if they wanted to avoid layoffs and see their newspaper survive, then they'd better be praying Mitt Romney wins because four more years of the Obama economy would kill off their newspaper for sure.

The Dallas Morning News is still a relentlessly biased, left-wing rag, despite this shocking endorsement.
Perhaps the DMN editorial staff has taken another look at their plunging subscription rates, and decided to feign some degree of impartiality....
....but I don't think so.
Note how they still manage to work in insults of both social conservatives and the TEA Party into their "endorsement."
The best thing that could happen for Dallas (and for honest journalism in Texas) is if the Dallas Morning News were to fold. Perhaps having to work REAL jobs might introduce these DMN hacks to some of the people they so happily and frequently disparage.

In a state where it doesn't matter and a city where the majority of their revenue comes from Republicans and conservatives.
And now, behind the scenes, they will move heaven and earth to get Zero re-elected and as many down ballot democrats as they can.
These people are liberal democrats through and through. I've watched them since I was old enough to know what politics is all about.
Cancelled my subscription in 1993 and encouraged everyone I know to do the same. I've bashed them at every opportunity, just like they bash Republicans and conservatives at every opportunity.
Since you can't believe anything any major newspaper in America writes, why believe this? Trust me, they don't mean it. They are simply looking at revenue.

FTA: Candidate Obama, an orator of great skill and cadence,... Sorry, but I just can't get past this "canned" description. He is good at reading a teleprompter - he is not a great orator!!!!!
If you want good oratory skills, attend a Toast Master's Club meeting. Obama's oratory skill is a myth. If he could speak easily and coherently when not using a teleprompter, then one could grade his skill. Okay, I'll give him a passing grade in "reading" - except he didn't know the difference between Marine Corps and Marine corpse.
My BA is in English (major) and a Public Speaking (minor). Reading a teleprompter is not a skill that is graded in Public Speaking courses that I'm aware of.

A small victory, but a victory nonetheless. It may encourage others in key swing states to do likewise.
But I suggest the following improvement in their article: "a TelePrompTer reader of great chin lift and cadence".

Some seem to be ignoring the most important thing about this endorsement. Its effect on Dems and Independents/Decline to States. It could give them second and third thoughts about Obit, especially if they were already getting cold feet re his reelection.
I believe we have to be careful about viewing everything through our prism. We know what we want. We should be happy about anything like this that could sway some Dems and the undecideds and Independents.

This is my home turf.
The Dallas Morning News may be capitalizing on the self-destruction campaign by it's principal competition in the DFW market, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Just as CNN seems to be trying to distinguish itself from MSNBC, the DMN may be trying to distinguish itself from the FWST.
The greater DFW population is overwhelmingly center-right politically, but if either paper would commit to keeping bias on the editorial page it would blow the other one away.
A leftwing editorial policy might be a pleasant comic relief, much like a neighborhood Obama-Biden yard sign or an Obama bumper sticker on a disabled Chevy Volt alongside the airport freeway. But a leftwing spin on the "hard news" page is regarded much like US and/or Texas flag burning.

Contiunation of #32:
This article is good news and should change some minds about Romney. I believe the conclusion speaks volumes about the contrast to an Administration known for its deceptions and exaggerations.
FTA: What we’ve seen of him over many years — from business success to running a state to impeccable personal and family attributes — convinces this newspaper that the time is right for someone with his broad skill set.

Another comment I should have included is the "reader comments" on the Editorial. Overwhelmingly pro-Obama! But that only emphasizes the significance of the endorsement.
If Rush Limbaugh came out and seriously endorsed Obama he would be inundated with screams of horror from his listening audience! [Of course he wouldn't do such a thing.]

After reading the article, I read through some of the comments that followed. The ability of the left to swallow hook, line and sinker the liberal Kool-aid is mind blowing.
As president, Gov. Romney is going to have to be made of steel because when the hard decisions are made, and they will have to be, these people are going to blow a gasket. The flogging President Bush took daily is going to be nothing compared to what Romney will receive. It will be whailing and gnashing of teeth non-stop by the media, and Obama will be, no doubt, encouraging them from the sidelines.
God bless the republic. We have to get this right and that means, the republicans in DC and sane democrats are going to have to for once, do what is right instead of what is politically expedient. The smartest thing Romney could do would be to put an end to the wealth accumulated by our electeds through inside information they receive, the perks they receive that their fellow Americans can only dream of and curtail lobbyists' influence thereby reducing crony capitalism. We all know Washington is corrupt and until you confront that problem, nothing changes. The purpose of those elected is that you go to Washington to serve you fellow Americans, not to fleece them. I apologize for the rant.

I am stunned. I've been having an e-mail back and forth with the editor about the News' biased coverage of the Middle East situation.
For three days they went with the party line ... it was the video. Fourth day: silence. I was like, praise be to Allah, there's peace in the Middle East. The Fifth day a short piece that didn't mention the previous stories.
I'd trade this endorsement for some unbiased coverage in this paper.

Welcome support, but the comments about the '47 percent' and 'the common man' smack of leftist Dem rant. When 20 percent of American taxpayers pay 80 percent of the taxes in this country, it is these taxpayers who should be mentioned - and honored. The Trillionaire wants the 20 percent to pay even more. It is time for the 47 percent to start contributing.

Toward that end, I would add that separating the congress from the influence of the bar should be pursued. That lawyers make laws and return to the bar, after their terms in Congress, is the gold standard of 'conflict of interest.' I find it hard to believe that this has not been addressed by our Founders, somewhere. I say, confine the lawyers to the Judicial Branch where they can support the laws our representatives craft, not make those laws as well.

The DMN was usually the conservative voice in a two newspaper town (Dallas Times Herald) 30 years ago. The competition made for good debate and a modicum of self-policing journalism. In the early 2000's, I began asking myself, if I don't believe the articles that the editorial staff of the DMN selects in my own area of expertise, why should I trust those editors with their selection of articles off the newswires in other areas? I stopped my DMN subscription about 2003 when I discovered Drudge. I was told about Lucianne about two years later. Lucianne and Drudge are now "my complementary newspapers" and my first sources of news.
The DMN sports page is a large reason for the subscriptions that they still have. I wonder, back about 2002-2004, if the DMN had broken its journalistic tailspin and had sought to be come the premier major conservative daily in the country, would they be in the trouble they are now?

And good speakers look AT their audiences... not down their noses at them.

The Dallas Moring News is Nothern Texas's arm of the Democrat Party.
The TEA Party in Texas has worked for 2 years to chance libtards to Conservation. Texans of all parties, creeds, race and financial status love to work, value their families and enjoy a good rodeo.
The TEA Party has rounded up Conservative votes in large numbers. We will all vote on November 6, 2012 for Mitt Romney & Paul Ryan.
Now, our job is to support Conservatives in the other 49 States.
The TEA Party has 38 days of hard running ahead of us. Like Texas Roadrunners (The roadrunner is a fast-running bird that has a long tail and a crest. The bird is found in southwestern United States and Mexico. The roadrunner is also called a chaparral bird.) Our faithful will vote in larger numbers than the 2010 blowout.
Romney & Ryan in all 50 is the goal.

I read the comments after the article, and it included the usual self-righteous twits banging on about the poor, veterans, seniors, and so on, that Obama supposedly cares so much about.
I was pleasantly surprised to see one gentleman point out that it takes a good economy to be able to help people - or as as Dame Margaret Thatcher said: “No one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions; he had money as well.”

This paper is in Texas -- there'll be a lot of people around them who will agree with them and support the endorsement. The NYT, LAT, WAPO, and Chicago Tribune would never dare endorse Romney (assuming they had a sudden inexplicable attack of sanity) because they would lose most of their readership and half their advertisers.

In other news ... Eric Holder has pulled his investigators from the Gallop polling case and has sent them to look into any shady deals ever conducted or even thought about by members of the Editorial Staff of the Dallas Morning News. Stay tuned. /SP/

Obama's performance is worthy of impeachment. Obama or Romney? Romney shows he is ready for the job, and we have seen enough of Obama.
If the lefty jourNOlists were honest, they would admit that. At least some are acknowledging the problems.
Hopefully on Novemember 6, the American voter will resolve the current mess we are in.

#23 and others have commented on the moves by some MSM away from Obama,
"...(snip)to these leftists that if they wanted to avoid layoffs and see their newspaper survive, then they'd better be praying Mitt Romney wins"..(snip)
here's a recent item from the Newspaper Association of America that would support that opinion:

# 9 posted the heart of the endorsement. it addressed the empty chair facts and recommended Mitt. Why is it then necessary to look that gift Donkey in the mouth? Was the DMN supposed to call the Obe dirty names after chastising him for his dirty negative campaign? Get real. Who should complain how strong the recommendation was by Conservatives standards? A choice was made by a liberal paper -- shout hurray not nay and scorn.

The Dallas Morning News Editorial tends to ne picky. Climb aboard great to have you with us and think carefully, can we really afford financially and politically another 4 years of Barack Hussein Obama. His disastrous foreign affairs mismanagement of the Benghazi murders of 4 US patriots.THen blame a half hour amateur movie for the cause. By boasting a week or two ago publically that he had killed OSAMA and nr 2 AL Quada and anothe El Quada operative in Somalia decidely helped to spur and fuel the attack om the consulate. The attack was on 9/11 it did not occurr a week before or whatever. One cannot believe that this occupant of the White House would name the cause publically and at the UN that it was the anti Muslim movie. There are family members who are still in disgust at the handling of their loved ones. Obama did not have the courtesy to visit with these families. The FBI is now taking the blame. I trust they are going to investigate this horror show and give comfort to the bereaved.

Here is something ObozoX built ... His incompetence and indifference has been pure hell for our true American patriot military... per the following:
More than 1,000 American soldiers have lost their lives in Afghanistan in the last 27 months under ObozoX. This is more than the combined total of the nine years before. Thirty have died in August. This make-believe usurper commander in chief is AWOL. Not a peep. There is a deep disgust, a fury, growing in the ranks of the military against the indifference and incompetence of this pResident.
The million military retirees in Florida alone could mean an overwhelming victory in that state for Romney not to mention the hundreds of thousands of civilian jobs and more military lives lost to his support of sequestration ($600 Billion) of defense funds..

I do the same thing when someone tries to give me a free copy of Pravda On The Arkansas (Tulsa World). Tulsa is perhaps the most consistently Conservative city in America and yet we are cursed with having only a Liberal rag for a newspaper.

Let's not concede to Obama what the DMN allows him, i.e. the "mess [Bush] left behind."
The economic mess was wrought by Democrats ... yes, those folks who brought you the "Community Reinvestment Act" and the vastly expanded Fannie Mae mortgage enterprises.
To wit: - Jimmah Carter, who started the CRA; - Bill Clinton, who strengthened the CRA and set his Deputy AG Eric Holder in charge of enforcing it; - Barney Frank, who blocked President Bush's efforts to reform Fannie Mae; - and dozens of other powerful Democrats, e.g. Chris Dodd, who personally benefited from the house of cards that was built on the CRA.
As for any "mess" abroad that Obama blames on Bush: Obama is simply lying that he "ended the war" in Iraq. It was Bush who ended that war; it was Obama who then proceeded to ruin the peace.

#40 nails it. Some adult thinking and a deep breath makes a big difference. This is the most important election in the nation's history so let's get it right!! We have wasted four years on this boozo's foolishness. We need to get back to work drilling and dreaming! Go, Mitt!!!

Three days after the bloody 9/11 siege on our consulate in Benghazi, the Taliban waged an intricately coordinated, brutal attack on Camp Bastion in Afghanistan. The murderous jihadists released video exactly one month ago this week showing off their training exercises in preparation for the assault. Where are the questions? Where’s the accountability? Where’s the Obama administration? Where’s the press? Where’s the outrage?

Barack Obama will forever be a historic, as well as historical, figure in American life. Candidate Obama, an orator of great skill and cadence, might have overcome everything and put the U.S. on a brighter path. President Obama, unfortunately, fell short of the challenge. We see evidence of Obama’s shortcomings in his re-election campaign, a relentlessly negative push to disqualify his opponent instead of standing on his accomplishments.

In the latest black eye for the scandal-ridden State Department, a whistleblower claims she was run out of the foreign service after complaining about a consul general’s alleged office trysts with subordinates and hookers.Kerry Howard says she was bullied, harassed and forced to resign after she exposed US Consul General Donald Moore’s alleged security-threatening shenanigans in the Naples, Italy, office. As the post’s community-liaison officer, Howard was charged with keeping workplace peace and advising higher-ups on the state of morale, but when she revealed allegations about her boss, State Department officials swept it under the rug,

Five months into his second term, allies and enemies are as confounded as ever about who President Obama really is. Is he the dyed-in-the-wool liberal that his biggest supporters and critics suggest? Or is he a pragmatic, even cynical, politician who cares more for his popularity than taking risks for his ideological goals or living up to his rhetoric? Even in the short period since his reelection, Obama has provided evidence to support conflicting interpretations. His efforts to pass immigration reform, the unsuccessful push for stricter gun controls and tax hikes on high earners buttress the case for Obama-as-ideologue.

Jeb Bush says he’s not worried that his work toward comprehensive immigration reform and his ties to the GOP establishment will alienate conservatives and negatively impact a potential 2016 presidential campaign, referring to critics as “the chirpers.” “If I decide to run for office again, it will be based on what I believe, and it will be based on my record,” the former Florida governor said in an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody. “And that record was one of solving problems completely from a conservative prospective.” Bush (R) pointed to his conservative

As NewsBusters reported last week, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin called out vulgarian comedian Bill Maher for referring to her Down Syndrome son Trig as "retarded." On ABC´s The View Monday, co-host Barbara Walters astonishingly defended Maher saying, "I don´t think he intended it to be mean-spirited" (video follows with transcript and commentary): WHOOPI GOLDBERG: At a recent standup show in Las Vegas, comedian Bill Maher apparently called Sarah Palin’s five-year-old developmentally-challenged son Trig retarded. And Sarah blasted him on Twitter as a bully. Is that, is it, is he a bully? Is he a bad, what is he?

Gang of Eight member Bob Menendez advised Republicans to accept legalization status for current illegal immigrants if they ever want to see another president from their party. “I would tell my Republican colleagues — both in the House and the Senate — that the road to the White House comes through a road with a pathway to legalization,” the New Jersey senator said on State of the Union this morning. “Without it, there’ll never be a road to the White House for the Republican party.” Menendez also warned of triggers on border security

Politico’s Playbook has an excerpt from a new Ryan Lizza piece from the New Yorker that is not yet online. It contains a passage on the back-and-forth between labor and the Chamber that has a quote from a Rubio staffer that is going to raise eyebrows, to say the least: “There are American workers who, for lack of a better term, can’t cut it. There shouldn’t be a presumption that every American worker is a star performer. There are people who just can’t get it, can’t do it, don’t want to do it. And so you can’t obviously discuss that publicly.” Here is the entire context:
