Aboard the Papal Plane — Pope Francis on Sunday said the Catholic Church should apologize to gay people and others who have been offended or exploited in the past. "I believe that the church not only should apologize to the person who is gay whom it has offended," the Pope said, "but has to apologize to the poor, to exploited women, to children exploited for labor; it has to ask forgiveness for having blessed many weapons." The Rev. James Martin, a Jesuit priest and editor at large of America magazine, called the Pope´s apology historic. "This is a groundbreaking moment. While

Someone needs to send an apology to Ohio. I did not vote for Elizabeth Warren, so you cannot blame me for what is about to happen. Today, our Massachusetts nightmare hits the campaign trail for the Democratic presidential ticket. U.S. Sen. Warren will be stumping with Hillary Clinton in the swing state. Will they do a sit-in to demand votes for the ticket? That’s the only way they are going to get support for this already flawed ticket if Warren is chosen for the vice presidential slot. It’s no surprise that Warren is being considered. She has been working hard

The foreign ministers of France and Germany are due to reveal a blueprint to effectively do away with individual member states in what is being described as an “ultimatum”. Under the radical proposals EU countries will lose the right to have their own army, criminal law, taxation system or central bank, with all those powers being transferred to Brussels. Controversially member states would also lose what few controls they have left over their own borders, including the procedure for admitting and relocating refugees. The plot has sparked fury and panic in Poland - a traditional ally of Britain in the fight against

Donald Trump is firing back at "overrated" conservative columnist George Will, days after the Washington Post writer said he left the Republican Party because of its presumptive GOP nominee. Trump tweeted out his attack of Will early Sunday, saying the Pulitzer Prize-winning commentator had "lost his way long ago": (Tweet) Will, also a Fox News contributor, told right-leaning PJ Media on Friday that he had become an "unaffiliated voter" in Maryland because of Trump´s influence on the GOP. He urged Republicans to "make sure he loses" and that the better option would be to "grit their teeth for four years"

Democratic operatives responsible for creating their party’s platform this year have unanimously adopted a provision calling for the Department of Justice to investigate companies who disagree with Democrats on global warming science. A panel of Democrats voted Friday to approve a final draft of the party’s platform to promote “Progressive Democratic Values,” which apparently includes investigating energy companies who “misled” shareholders about global warming. (Snip) The drafting committee, led by DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings, has decided to back ongoing investigations by mostly Democratic state attorneys general into ExxonMobil’s stance on global warming.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill issued a guide this week which instructs students that Christmas vacations and telling a woman “I love your shoes!” are “microagressions.” The taxpayer-funded guide — entitled “Career corner: Understanding microaggressions” — also identifies golf outings and the words “boyfriend” and “girlfriend” as microagressions. Seventh Circuit Judge Richard Posner sees “absolutely no value” in studying the U.S. Constitution because “eighteenth-century guys” couldn’t have possibly foreseen the culture and technology of today. In a recent op-ed for Slate, Judge Posner, a senior lecturer at the University of Chicago Law School, argued that the original Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the post–Civil War amendments “do not speak to today.” “I see absolutely no value to a judge of spending decades, years, months, weeks, day, hours, minutes, or seconds studying the Constitution, the history of its enactment, its amendments, and its implementation (across the centuries —
