Seoul, South Korea — North Korea called President Barack Obama “a monkey” and blamed the U.S. on Saturday for shutting down its Internet amid the hacking row over the comedy “The Interview.” North Korea has denied involvement in a crippling cyberattack on Sony Pictures but has expressed fury over the comedy depicting an assassination of its leader Kim Jong Un. Sony Pictures initially called off the release citing threats of terror attacks against U.S. movie theaters. Obama criticized Sony’s decision, and the movie has opened this week. On Saturday, the North’s powerful National Defense Commission, the country’s top

President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama extended Kwanzaa greetings on Friday, the first day of the weeklong celebration. "Today begins a celebration highlighting the rich African American heritage and culture through the seven principles of Kwanzaa—unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith," the pair said in a statement. The Kwanzaa holiday, first celebrated in 1966, runs from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1, ending with a feast and gift-giving. "During this season, families come together to reflect on blessings of the past year and look forward to the promises in the year ahead," said the

People hurriedly cleaned and rebuilt a memorial to Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., on Friday morning after they said a car intentionally destroyed it. Flowers, signs and other mementos, left in remembrance of the 18-year-old who was killed in a police shooting in August, were scattered throughout the streets, stirring supporters who saw pictures on social media to gather to restore the makeshift shrine. (Tweets) Officer Timothy Zoll, the Ferguson Police Department’s public relations officer, said that no crime had been reported in connection to the memorial’s destruction. He suggested that the department would look at

One of Eric Garner’s daughters marked Christmas Day by spreading personal information about an NYPD cop who was present during the chokehold death of her father — outraging officers still reeling from last weekend’s execution-style slayings of two policemen in Brooklyn. Erica Garner tweeted that cop Justin D’Amico was “another officer that helped killed [sic] my dad,” and directed her 5,000-plus Twitter followers to a Web page that lists addresses for D’Amico and five possible relatives. The information was viewed about 500 times before Garner’s stunning tweet was deleted following inquiries by The Post.

Paige Stalker might be alive today had she learned about Routine Activity Theory. But she is dead and two of her friends are critically wounded, the latest poster children for R.A.T.: White people in black neighborhoods should expect to be the victims of racial violence. Paige was one of five teenagers from an upscale neighborhood in nearby Grosse Point who were on their way to the movies three days before Christmas when they decided to pull over and smoke marijuana in Detroit. While they were getting a high, a black man with a high-powered rifle approached their car and fired 30 rounds into it, killing Paige.

A sixty-year-old crucifix in a small Austrian town has met an inglorious end after being cut down by a recent addition to the neighbourhood who declared it an “eyesore” and attacked it with an angle-grinder. The cross, which was erected in the Grossenzersdorf, a small suburb of Vienna, after the Second World War, (snip) stood on the grass verge outside one of the properties on Grossenzersdorf’s Augasse. Shortly after the new resident, a man described by local media as ‘Egyptian’ moved in, he started complaining to neighbours and even his local government about the crucifix.

The family of Eric Garner joined the Rev. Al Sharpton for a Christmas Day moment of silence honoring two cops murdered by a deranged killer out to avenge the Staten Island man’s death. Garner’s mother, Gwenn Carr, and his widow, Esaw Garner, paused for the moment of silence at the National Action Network headquarters in Harlem, where they where helping to feed the homeless and senior citizens.[snip] Sharpton called for the solemn remembrance at 12:30 p.m. for Officers Wenjian Liu, 32, and Rafael Ramos, 40, who were gunned down on Saturday in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. “I feel very bad
