Trump’s New Shutdown World
Wall Street Journal, by Kimberley A. Strassel

Original Article

This weekend the federal shutdown becomes the longest in history—and yet, and yet, the sky has not fallen. Meet the team that has allowed the Trump White House to hold out for so long, and in the process forever altered future shutdown fights. Across the street from the Oval Office, an only somewhat merry band of budget lawyers labor on one priority: making this event as painless as possible. That was the order from President Trump when the government closed, and the Office of Management and Budget was ready. Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney

I think she got the wrong president. It was Smidgen who ordered everyone to make his shutdown as painful as possible. PDT hasn’t hired guards and put up barriers around historical sites which are open 24/7 with no Park Service rangers in attendance on a daily basis.

As far as I can tell, almost no one has even noticed the shutdown. On my daily errands and business dealings, not a single person has even mentioned it.

I admit that I quit reading after Strassel made that statement.

#1, Think you read that wrong," making this event as PAINLESS as possible."
Anyhow, still haven´t noticed shut down.

Why is government necessary? It isn´t!!

#1, she points out that Barack Obama did the exact opposite of Trump´s "painless as possible" orders. She also emphasizes that Trump´s administration people and aides worked hard to alleviate or avoid the pain where it could be done in various agencies.

Were government employees concerned about the economic shutdown during Soetoro´s reign?
Not that I could tell.
I would like to see Trump tell all these people to start looking for real jobs. The nationalized parks etc... could be handed over to the states, airport security to the airlines and so on.
Then next year another shut down and more chaff to the wind.

The mention of turning National Parks over to states would guarantee the parks falling into disrepair and closing. States waste money and I´ve seen one state park closed and now looks like a landfill today. Rest areas on the interstate were closed because there was no money to maintain them although it was spent on democrat dreamy endeavors.
The longer the shut down goes we might find out the government wastes money on duplicate jobs that aren´t needed.

The government is partially shut down? Who would have known; is anyone outside of the beltway have any major inconvenience other than non-essential government employees?

I thought this was an excellent article, #1, if you´d read it to completion.

All in all, PDT is showing America that Washington isn´t the place to find its happiness and forever funding. Over 330 million people are still working. More than ever before--for the private sector. Under Obama, only the government sector grew. So, I´d say PDT is proving the point that Washington DC and all its tentacles could use some trimming back.

MAGA!!! KAG!!! Neva give in. Neva give up, Mr. President!

So Republicans should worry that when the one time food stamp allowance expires food stamp recipients won´t vote for them?

The Tense Debate Over Gay Priests
Wall Street Journal, by Francis X. Rocca    Original Article

Since last summer, the Catholic Church has been roiled by accusations that retired Archbishop Theodore McCarrick of Washington, D.C., molested male minors and sexually harassed adult seminarians and priests over more than two decades. The case has reignited a long and tense debate among Catholics over the question of homosexuality in the all-male priesthood. Some bishops, other clergy and laypeople have cited Archbishop McCarrick’s rise to power, despite widespread rumors of sexual misconduct, as evidence of a “homosexual subculture” in the hierarchy that they blame for allowing sex abuse and covering it up.

What Bruce Ohr Told the FBI

Everybody knew. Everybody of consequence at the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Justice Department understood fully in the middle of 2016—as the FBI embarked on its counterintelligence probe of Donald Trump—that it was doing so based on disinformation provided by Hillary Clinton’s campaign. That’s the big revelation from the transcript of the testimony Justice Department official Bruce Ohr gave Congress in August. The transcripts haven’t been released, but parts were confirmed for me by congressional sources. Mr. Ohr testified that he sat down with dossier author Christopher Steele on July 30, 2016, and received salacious information

The red wolf was declared extinct in the wild in 1980, and while forty or so red wolves were captured, bred in captivity, and reintroduced into the wild in North Carolina in 1990, there have been mysterious unconfirmed reports of red wolf sightings scattered along the Texas Gulf Coast for decades. Those sightings were typically dismissed—scientists were certain coyotes were being mistaken for the elusive wolf. But now there’s some evidence indicating that red wolves may actually have a genetic presence along the coast in Texas. It all began with some roadkill.

Former CBS Corp. chairman-CEO Leslie Moonves will pursue an arbitration claim to fight CBS for the $120 million severance that he was denied last month when the company’s board of directors determined he was fired for cause. Moonves was ousted in September after multiple women came forward with allegations of sexual misconduct against the longtime industry leader. In a Securities and Exchange Commission filing on Thursday, CBS disclosed that Moonves has informed the company of his plan to take the board’s decision to arbitration. A spokesman for Moonves declined to comment. “On January 16, 2019, Mr. Moonves notified the Company of his election

Saudi Arabian Flag Candy Statue Removed

A nine-foot sculpture depicting the Saudi Arabian flag in the shape of a piece of candy is reportedly being removed from its grounds near the 9/11 memorial in New York City after facing backlash. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said they’d relocate the installation, which features the words “There is no god but Allah, and Mohammed is the prophet” in Arabic, after many felt its proximity to Ground Zero and the 9/11 Memorial was insulting and insensitive. Fifteen of the 19 hijackers in the Sept. 11 attack on the United States were Saudi nationalists,

Mitch McConnell Rules

In the daily headlines, the government shutdown—now the longest in American history—is reported as a clash between two uncompromising forces: President Trump and Speaker Nancy Pelosi. In this battle, however, the most important general may be the one who’s escaped almost all notice. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has put on full display his penchant for knowing when the best course is to do nothing. In the received wisdom, because Mr. Trump infamously welcomed a shutdown in December’s televised and contentious Oval Office meeting with Mrs. Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, he gets all the blame for it.

Watch Willie Nelson and George

Willie Nelson’s list of musical collaborators is essentially a timeline of popular music. Frank Sinatra? Wynton Marsalis? Ray Charles? Julio Iglesias? Check, check, check, check. Norah Jones, Kacey Musgraves, Chris Stapleton, even Snoop Dogg? Yep. Basically every country star who ever passed through Nashville and stopped off in Texas? Of course. Yet somehow, during the course of his illustrious and highly collaborative career, there’s one epic name that Willie hadn’t added to his list: King George Strait, his fellow Texan great, whose stature rivals Willie’s when it comes to the names that have defined country music.

President Trump on Thursday abruptly denied military aircraft to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for a foreign trip just minutes before the congressional delegation was set to depart, in a stunning response to her call to delay the State of the Union address amid the government shutdown. In a curt letter, Trump said her trip has been “postponed.” “Due to the Shutdown, I am sorry to inform you that your trip to Brussels, Egypt, and Afghanistan has been postponed. We will reschedule this seven-day excursion when the Shutdown is over. In light of the 800,000 great American workers not receiving pay,

Gillette is doubling down on a controversial new campaign that appears aimed at taking on so-called toxic masculinity — but has created a social media firestorm. The two-minute video from Boston-based razor brand Gillette urges men to act against sexual harassment, misogyny and bullying, asking: “Is this the best a man can get?” While fans are applauding the move, critics say it assumes men need to be steered away from negative tendencies. The ad starts off with audio of news about the #MeToo movement, saying, “We can’t hide from it. It has been going on far too long. We
