WASHINGTON — Michael Avenatti held court last month with a dozen Democratic strategists in the main dining room at The Palm — a see-and-be-seen table at one of Washington´s most prominent power lunch spots. Avenatti did most of the talking. While he offered few details about how he planned to raise enough money or hire the staff to run a presidential campaign, one participant and another person briefed on the lunch said he cast himself as one of the few Democrats who knows how to go head-to-head with President Donald Trump. The sources requested anonymity because they weren´t authorized

Avenatti would be amazing in his bid to become the Democrat Presedential candidate. His scorched earth strategy would damage all other candidates beyond repair.

Beto O’Rourke Emerges as the Wild

WASHINGTON — The 2020 Democratic presidential primary, already expected to be the party’s most wide open in decades, has been jostled on the eve of many long-plotted campaign announcements by a political threat that few contenders bothered considering until recently: Will a soon-to-be-former congressman, with an unremarkable legislative record and a Senate campaign loss, upend their best-laid plans? Representative Beto O’Rourke of Texas has emerged as the wild card of the presidential campaign-in-waiting for a Democratic Party that lacks a clear 2020 front-runner. After a star-making turn in his close race against Senator Ted Cruz, Mr. O’Rourke is increasingly serious

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. — Progressive Democrats are beginning to confront an unintended consequence of their own success: Dilution of the brand. So many Democratic presidential prospects are now claiming the progressive mantle in advance of the 2020 primaries that liberal leaders are trying to institute a measure of ideological quality control, designed to ensure the party ends up with a nominee who meets their exacting standards. Leaders of the Congressional Progressive Caucus are discussing policy platforms that could serve as a litmus test for presidential contenders. Progressive donors, meanwhile, are plotting steps — ranging from closer engagement with campaigns to

Washington - The race is starting so early, and the field is so crowded, that announcing you are not running for president is now a news event. In the past week, Andrew Cuomo, the governor of New York; Deval Patrick, the former governor of Massachusetts; and Michael Avenatti, lawyer for the pornographic actor Stormy Daniels, have all dropped out of contention for the 2020 Democratic nomination. (Snip) But things could get messy, Zogby warned. “The danger here is the party could explode with identity politics and the liberal/progressive split. Do you have to have a woman on the ticket? Do

ABC News’ livestream of President George H. W. Bush’s funeral Wednesday took an uncomfortable turn when the panelists joked about President Trump’s future funeral. “It will be the best presidential funeral ever,” ABC correspondent Terry Moran said. “No one will ever have seen anything like that funeral.” The exchange started when Moran, a veteran ABC News anchor, argued that Trump’s election was a “repudiation of much of what George Herbert Walker Bush and George Walker Bush stood for because the people who voted him wanted that repudiation.” Moran went on to say that Trump is “an expression of the

Second-largest Ebola outbreak in

DAKAR, Senegal — The second-largest Ebola outbreak in history has spread to a major city in eastern Congo, as health experts worry whether the stock of an experimental vaccine will stand up to the demands of an epidemic with no end in sight. Butembo, with more than 1 million residents, is now reporting cases of the deadly hemorrhagic fever. That complicates Ebola containment work already challenged by rebel attacks elsewhere that have made tracking the virus almost impossible in some isolated villages. “We are very concerned by the epidemiological situation in the Butembo area,” said John Johnson, project coordinator

HAMBURG, Germany — Chancellor Angela Merkel´s party celebrated her 18 years as its leader with a lengthy standing ovation on Friday as it prepared to elect a successor who could help shape Germany´s political direction for the next generation. A close ally of Merkel´s and a one-time rival were considered favorites for the leadership of the center-right Christian Democratic Union. Fox News legal analyst Andrew Napolitano on Thursday walked back a previous statement in which he said Donald Trump Jr. expects to be indicted by special counsel Robert Mueller. "You know I did say that, and I basically was repeating what had already been out there," Napolitano said on "Fox & Friends." "I since have heard from [him], and he says he never said it. And it was an inaccurate statement." "I take him at his word," he added. The comment comes just a day after Napolitano said on the Sirius XM radio show of ABC News chief

Many GOP leaders and politicians have started to question whether President Donald Trump will serve out his entire term, conservative commentator David Brooks has said. The right-leaning pundit, (Snip) pointed out that there is growing uncertainty among Republicans over Trump’s future during an interview with PBS News Hour . Brooks explained that politician’s from the president’s party have started to see his administration as losing “authority” and “failing.” Appearing alongside liberal political commentator Mark Shields, Brooks said it seems like “a lot of Republicans are looking at this White House, and they’re seeing an administration under a lot of

Legal trouble for President Trump is coming from all sides. There’s evidence Paul Manafort was still communicating with the White House this year. There’s evidence suggesting the Russian government was offering “synergy” with the Trump campaign. There’s further evidence Trump directed Michael Cohen to make the hush-money payments to pornographer Stormy Daniels. It’s still very unclear whether Trump broke any laws. It’s perfectly clear, however, that Trump got himself in this perfectly avoidable mess through bad behavior. For starters: Had Trump not cheated on his wife with a porn actress, he would not have found himself

The mugshot of an Ohio woman with a spooky full face tattoo has gone viral following her shoplifting and drug arrest, according to reports. Alyssa Zebrasky, 27, was arrested last Wednesday for stealing a bag at a Boardman Township WalMart, Fox8 reported. During a search at the Mahoning County Jail, cops found bags of methamphetamine and a hypodermic needle, the outlet said. “I don’t see how she was caught. Maintaining a low profile and all .?.?. A fascinating bit of news flying well under the D.C. radar is the comments of Clinton Foundation CFO Andrew Kessel to members of an independent investigation firm that has been looking into Clinton Foundation business practices for some time. According to Kessel it’s as bad as some have long thought – the foundation is mired in conflicts of interests, misappropriation of funds, and a rogue Bill Clinton himself who has long used it as a personal piggy bank.Via Zero Hedge: The CFO of the Clinton Foundation, thinking he was “meeting an old professional acquaintance,” admitted to investigators

The daughter of the late Dean Martin declared she has no intentions of stopping her performances of a classic Christmas song in spite of complaints from politically correct Scrooges. Deana Martin refuses to stop singing “Baby It’s Cold Outside,” a song sung by her father and many others for over 70 years which was recently pulled from an Ohio radio station because a proponent of the #MeToo movement deemed it offensive. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) responded to the November employment report that came out today—which showed that a record 156,795,000 were employed in America—by saying that the report revealed “a callous GOP special interest agenda” that has hurt the “economic security of hard-working families.” The unemployment numbers released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicated that the unemployment rate was 3.7 percent for the third straight month. That is the lowest unemployment rate the United States has seen since 1969, according to BLS. “November’s jobs report shows an economy straining beneath the weight of a callous GOP special interest agenda that

“Prosecutors’ Narrative Is Clear: Trump Defrauded Voters.” So declares the first part of the headline of a New York Times article by Peter Baker and Nicholas Fandos. The rest of the headline asks “But What Does It Mean?” Good question. It may mean that the prosecutors haven’t found a crime, but are still pi**ed off that Trump won the election. I find odd the notion that Trump defrauded voters. No candidate in my lifetime ever painted a clearer, more vivid picture of himself for voters. For better or for worse,
