Social Security checks to rise?
A look at past adjustments

The Social Security Administration will tell retirees on Thursday how much of a bump to expect in their checks next year, and some experts project it could be the biggest in years. The Senior Citizens League, a nonpartisan senior advocacy organization, forecasts benefits will jump by 2.8 percent in 2019 – which would be the largest increase in seven years. That is slightly down from the group’s previous forecast of 3 percent, but would still boost the average beneficiary’s check by $39 per month – and raise the current maximum benefit collected by someone who retires at full retirement age

I have aid into Socialism Security to buy Democart votes since I was age 12. I still have a lot of years to go until I get ´full´ benifits at retirement. And sure, it will not be whan I turn 65. I do know, uess I live to be about 112 years of age, I will have paid more into socialism Security than I will have recieved. Its nothing more than a Ponzi scheme and it is no comfort to me to kow that my retirement 401k will be far more important to me than the moeny I put into socialism security as a 12 year old. An increase to today´s socialism secuity recipents means less oney for me even though I still pay into it. ´m F......

Exactly #1, I think the medicare increase was more than the SS increase for me but there is a reg/rule/law that it can´t go negative.

Thank you, President Trump. The Kenyan Musbro pretend-president didn´t give a cost of living increase to anybody except himself.

But, will We earn $15 an hour ?

For years they have said SS would run out of money. So what did Zippy do? Give it to people who never put a dime into it and call it an entitlement.

For the younger people who say older people should have saved and put money in retirement funds. First, for the oldest, those things weren´t available. Second, a major illness will wipe out everything you own and then some.

$39 a month. It´s something, not much, but more than "THE MAGIC ONE" allowed, except for himself.
I began drawing it when I was 69. I get a bit more than the 100%, it helps. I did some figuring once, I have to live until 87 to break even. Meaning I´ve gotten back dollar for dollar everything I´ve put in. I´m not counting for inflation, if I did, I´d never get even.

I am like most of you who feel that whatever increase we get in SS, will be eaten up in Medicare premiums. I have been blessed not to need to use Medicare yet and it makes me mad that Blue Criss keeps calling about doing a home health care visit. What I don´t understand is, if I am not using Medicare, why do my premiums keep going up. There should be some incentive not to abuse it.

Now if they REALLY want to help seniors they would NOT TAX their SS. It was taxed before they took it out, why do they tax it a second time? And if you have yet to receive yours, and for some reason people seem to know nothing about it until their time comes, you are taxed by the Feds and the State (if your State has taxes).

While your point about #7´s post is taken, #18, "savings" and investment have always been available, even if only cash stuffed under the mattress or the cookie jar. And with the value of money on a specie standard, inflation was generally not a huge threat. I knew more than one that socked cash away for their "rainy day" or future. They made do on working class peanuts.

What must also be remembered is that at one time "retirement" was a family affair, with the eldest son often moving into the "homestead" while the elderly parents took the second bedroom, or attic. Meals were shared; generations grew together. The kids took responsibility for the welfare of their parents. And death came at home without expensive care. Different world.

#7 fits nicely into that angry cartoon up above....

My President does NOT "pay off" anyone!
That´s just so incorrect..

We all welcome a rise in our s.s. after the Anointed one´s eight years of hell.

I thank this President for making corrections and fixing things that we ALL know (except for #7) badly need fixing.

The left breaks things.
This President fixes things.
That´s why we love him.
Got it?
So many accomplishments in such little time!
Ya gotta love this patriotic President!

A 2.8% increase doesn´t sound like much, and I hear a lot of sneering, but I could use an extra 50 clams paid to me monthly from a "plan" (i.e. a Ponzi scheme) to which I was forced to "contribute" for my entire working life.

So many euphemisms, so little time -- but We never had any choice in the matter. When Ronald Reagan proposed some much-needed changes to Social Security (which were partially implemented, thank heavens), Teddy the "Lion of the Senate" Kennedy and the Tip "the Tippler" O´Neill howled in the Congress.

As usual, President Reagan was right, and America is still trying to shake off the hangover that Teddy and Tipple left us.

Rider University in New Jersey sent a survey to students during the spring semester, asking them which restaurants they would like to see the school bring on campus. But when it became clear that Chick-Fil-A was the students’ top choice, the college disregarded the results of the survey. The school will not bring the popular fast food chain to campus because “their corporate values have not sufficiently progressed enough to align with those of Rider,” according to a Nov. 1 email sent to Rider students and obtained by Campus Reform. The school went on to clarify that the decision was

The White House has sent a memo to the Pentagon granting troops stationed at the border authority to engage in some law enforcement and to use lethal force if they are in danger. The Defense Department said it’s received the memo and is “reviewing it,” suggesting the new policy is not yet operational. It was signed not by President Trump but by White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly, said Military Times, which was the first to report the memo had been finalized after a week of speculation. The paper said Mr. Kelly authorized troops to assist the Border Patrol in crowd control and even detaining illegal immigrants.

Around this time every year we are treated to multiple news articles explaining how we ought to deal with our racist conservative relatives at Thanksgiving. These articles, in my opinion, miss the point entirely. We shouldn’t be dealing with our racist conservative relatives at Thanksgiving dinner at all because we shouldn’t be having a Thanksgiving dinner in the first place. Thanksgiving is a patriarchal ritual in which white men and their subjugated marital slaves commemorate the mass execution of Indigenous People by consuming the living flesh of innocent animals. It is frankly shocking that any decent person still celebrates this

Now that the Democrats have won control of the House of Representatives (barely) it appears a near-certainty that President Trump will be unable to get anything done in Congress on immigration – no congressional funding for the wall, no statute ending chain migration or the visa lottery, no bill for him to sign adjusting downward the current, one million-per year-plus rate of legal immigration – in the next two years. Of course, he wasn’t able to get any of that in the last two years, either, even though Republicans controlled both houses of Congress. The Republicans in Name Only (RINOs)

“The Clinton Affair,” A&E’s six-part mini-series on the scandals of Bill Clinton’s presidency, lacks a point of view. It is straightforward in style and evenhanded in tone. Strangely, this recommends it. The events it covers have been so sensationalized and so politicized for so long that seeing them presented neutrally and in roughly chronological order is revelatory, particularly regarding the stories of three women: Paula Jones, Kathleen Willey and Juanita Broaddrick. These are the women who, in the 1990s, publicly accused the president of the United States of sexual harassment and assault. It’s been a year for reconsidering Bill Clinton’s

With the Trumps, she has lost all sense of balance. Her unwarranted attack on First Lady Melania Trump last weekend in the Wall Street Journal is plain ugly. In a column titled “Melania’s Misstep and Michelle’s Mystery,” Noonan declares her love for former first lady Michelle Obama after reading her memoir, Becoming. TIJUANA, Mexico — Migrants stranded in Tijuana are complaining about cramped living spaces, exposure to the cold at night, limited access to food and safety concerns. The makeshift shelter they´ve been living in for almost a week is nearing capacity, and more migrants are on the way to this border community. More than 2,500 migrants, hailing mostly from Honduras and to a lesser extent from other Central American countries and Mexico, are staying at Unidad Deportiva Benito Juárez, a sports complex in Tijuana´s north end. Another 3,400 are in nearby Mexicali, about 90 miles away, according to the state officials.
