Some wag once told us that the definition of insanity is "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." This definition may as well apply to progressivism, as the left constantly trots out old ideas that have failed, wanting to give them a spin all over again. Take socialism, for example. For generations, we´ve heard that socialist policies have failed only because nations haven´t properly implemented them. Even after a long track record of collectivism falling apart over and over again—with examples happening right before our eyes—the left refuses to see that the system many of them

Axios has just released a fascinating poll of the swing-state Senate races in this year’s midterm elections, and in several key contests, generic Republican candidates appear to have the edge over incumbent Democrats. The poll surveys voters’ attitudes toward incumbent Democratic senators up for reelection this cycle in the ten states that Donald Trump won in November 2016: Montana, West Virginia Missouri, Indiana, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida. In half of these states, the GOP candidate leads the current Democratic senator, and, amazingly, in four out of five of those states, the Republican candidate goes unnamed, because no front-runner

"As far as I´m concerned, Jeff Sessions should be advised, and I´ll advise him right now, that it´s a bad idea, for him, to start talking about anything to do with the history of slavery or reconstruction or the Civil War in the United States," Harris told MSNBC´s Chris Hayes. Republican Rep. South Korean officials said earlier this week that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had signaled a willingness to talk about dismantling his nuclear weapons program. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Thursday that the two countries are still “a long ways from negotiations.” Such talks would

Since its founding in 2002, the Department of Homeland Security has never been reauthorized, which has allowed various problems to fester. Last July, the House passed a reauthorization bill that addressed many of the problems. But more can be done to address the inefficient and complex congressional oversight structure that continues to plague the department. On Wednesday, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee passed the Senate’s version of the reauthorization for Homeland Security, which is good news considering the department is desperately in need of reform. Specifically, the Senate bill proposes a commission to fix the department’s impractical

What would the establishment media reaction be if tens of members of Congress met with one of America’s most notorious racists and anti-Semites and refused to denounce him? Or if the leaders of one of America’s hottest social movements embraced him? If the bigot in question is Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan — who has blamed Jews for the 9/11 attacks, said white people “deserve to die” and praised Adolf Hitler — the answer seems to be … not much, at least not when those embracing him are Democrats and progressives. It´s hard for many of us always to know who our friends really are. The president of the United States appears to have more difficulty with this than most (cf. Paul Manafort).
