A number of US athletes have spoken out against Donald Trump during his presidency -- and skier Lindsey Vonn has become the latest to have her say. Targeting Olympic gold at February´s Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Vonn is in St. Moritz, Switzerland, where she spoke passionately about what it means to compete for the US ski team. "Well I hope to represent the people of the United States, not the president," Vonn told CNN´s Alpine Edge. The 33-year-old Vonn is getting ready for the final act of a long and illustrious career. As well as competing for a second Olympic gold

Sen. Al Franken took a quick glance up at a jam-packed Senate press gallery as he entered the chamber Thursday, preparing to ask Alaska Sen. Dan Sullivan, who was presiding over the chamber, to allow him to make the speech that would end his political career. A senator who has long dodged questions from reporters, he finally had one for them. "Ready?" And with that, Franken, D-Minn., set out on his farewell address to the Senate — a 12-minute speech where he continued to proclaim his innocence against eight women who have accused him of sexual misconduct in recent weeks.

We already know Steve Bannon believes that politics is war. But during the course of his speech at an Alabama rally for Roy Moore this week, he gave the country an ugly lesson in what scorched-earth political warfare really entails. (Snip)Still, despite all the fun he’s having attacking his favorite targets and boosting Moore, Bannon has to be aware that he isn’t winning his war on McConnell. Try as he might to deny it, he knows McConnell is now more important to Trump than the Breitbart attack machine is. It was McConnell’s successful maneuvering and negotiating that gave Trump his

Did anyone else notice a crucial passage in Franken’s statement on the Senate floor this morning? He said that he’d be resigning “in the coming weeks.” How many weeks? Will reporters ask him for a date certain? Notice, too, that he neither apologized nor admitted to any wrongdoing. Quite the opposite—he essentially implied that some of his accusers are lying, and he couldn’t help but attack President Trump and Roy Moore. I think Franken is attempting a super-Clintonian dodge. He had to address the immediate firestorm, but he’s probably holding out for Roy Moore to win the election in Alabama next

The full horror of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour has been laid bare in newly colorized pictures released on the 76th anniversary of the assault. In just 90 minutes, more than 2,400 US servicemen and civilians lost their lives while 17 ships were damaged or lost - dragging America into the Second World War and forever changing the course of the conflict. The pictures here show the wrecks of the USS California, which sank after being hit by two torpedoes and two bombs, and the USS Oklahoma, which was holed by four torpedoes and capsized. Former Rep. Harold Ford Jr. (D-Tenn.) was fired from his job at Morgan Stanley after an investigation into a harassment complaint from a female co-worker, HuffPost reported Thursday. The woman, who requested to remain anonymous, alleged that Ford forcibly grabbed her one evening in Manhattan several years ago. She also accused Ford of harassment and intimidation, according to HuffPost. A spokeswoman for Morgan Stanley confirmed Ford’s firing, telling the news outlet he was terminated “for conduct inconsistent with our values and in violation of our policies.” The report comes amid a wave of sexual misconduct allegations in recent weeks against prominent politicians.

Ventura County Republicans in the know are abuzz about a CA District 26 Congressional candidate’s controversial movie career. Antonio Sabato Jr. emigrated to the US when he was a boy, went to Beverly Hills HS and that’s about as far as he went academically. But he made a successful career for himself as a soap opera star, underwear model and as we’re finding out- a gay pornstar. But few have seen or appreciate his work. He freely admits that he has struggled with drugs and has done some things that he wouldn’t do now, which we won’t get into here,

U.S. immigration officials have revealed that they face a deportation backlog of 550,000 illegal immigrants who were given temporary amnesty by former President Obama or simply let off the hook by liberal judges. The massive backlog is being tackled by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, but the sheer numbers — bigger than the populations of Atlanta or Sacramento -- is overwhelming the agency’s enforcement and removal department. This week as ICE and other immigration officials reviewed successes under President Trump, a reporter asked Matthew T. Albence, executive associate director for enforcement and removal operations, if he knew the number of outstanding deportation

After spending almost 60 years in Congress as a politician and a staffer, Rep. John Conyers II has to decide which of his many relatives to pass Michigan’s 13th congressional district to. It’s like King Lear, if Shakespeare’s fictional monarch had been forced to step down after groping a woman in church. The 13th is a very nice district to inherit. Conyers has won it by 77%, 79% and 82%. Fidel Castro couldn’t ask for better elections. Whichever Conyers clan member gets it will be staying in Congress for 60 years. And will inherit Rep. Conyers’ government Cadillac Escalade.

One of the most dishonest and pernicious phrases in the cultural-Marxist lexicon—much favored by Barack Hussein Obama during his eight years in office—goes like this: “The arc of history bends toward justice.” The former president borrowed the phrase from Martin Luther King, Jr., who lifted it from the abolitionist Theodore Parker; attached to the moral struggle of the civil-rights movement, it has become a club with which to beat troglodyte conservatives into submission. But this is arrant nonsense...

GE is slashing 1,100 jobs from its UK power business under an organisational restructure, the firm announced. The planned losses will hit the UK´s engineering heartland in the Midlands, affecting Stafford and Rugby, with the total potential losses representing around 6 per cent of the company´s UK workforce. GE blamed deteriorating market conditions which have had a ´significant impact´ on its economic performance, adding that demand for new built power plants had ´dramatically´ dropped in all developing countries. The US industrial group expects the ´painful but necessary´ job losses to help save $1billion next year as demand for fossil fuel power plants

A year after the election and the Democrats, the media, establishment Republicans are still apoplectic over the inauguration of President Donald Trump. It’s obvious they hate him. When did the media stop looking at Donald Trump as an entertainment figure and begin to loathe him? True, bat-guano, off-the-charts loathing. The answer, of course, is when Donald Trump challenged President Obama to produce a birth certificate. Even today, few things get a liberal Democrat or the media more riled up than questioning President Obama’s qualifications to be president.

The human race has peaked, with mankind reaching its maximum limits for height, lifespan and physical performance, scientists have claimed. Despite stories that each generation will live longer and longer, a new report suggests there may be a maximum threshold to our biological limits that we cannot exceed. In particular, the French research team behind the study found what appears to be a plateau in the maximum biological limits for humans´ height, age and physical abilities. "These traits no longer increase, despite further continuous nutritional, medical, and scientific progress," said Professor Jean-François Toussaint from Paris Descartes University.
