Venezuela, one of the world’s riskiest credits, was declared in default by S&P Global Ratings after missing two interest payments on its debt. The nation, home to the world’s largest oil reserves, owed investors about $200 million and failed to make those payments by the end of a 30-day grace period that expired over the weekend, S&P said in a statement in which it lowered the country’s rating to SD. Plagued with payment delays and running low on cash, it’s the first time in recent years the government has exceeded the buffer period on its bonds. State oil producer Petroleos de

Republican Sen. Jeff Flake says he would rather see a Democrat win Alabama’s open Senate seat than accused teen groper Roy Moore — and compared the GOP candidate to former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke. “If the choice is between Roy Moore and a Democrat, if I were in Alabama I’d vote for the Democrat,” the Arizona senator?, who recently announced he would not seek reelection,? said Monday. “There was a time when Republican senators would go and campaign for a Democrat rather than seat a Republican who would be so repugnant to the party and would diminish the party’s chances

The Republican Party is in the middle of a civil war. And instead of trying to resolve it, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., is making it worse. According to a recent report, the Senate majority leader has decided to escalate his feud with Steve Bannon, the former adviser to President Trump and current Breitbart News executive chairman. McConnell’s allies cite the decision as evidence of his toughness. But it illustrates instead the limits of his leadership. While long considered a canny operator, the reality is that McConnell has been unsuccessful in leading Senate Republicans in the current environment. And the decision

ARMED police descended on a pub in Middlesbrough closing roads in the centre of the town, reports claim. Police carrying guns and shields were seen at the Springfield Hotel pub at 9:30pm where officers were heard shouting to anyone inside before entering the building. The A66 was later closed westbound after a dozen police vehicles swooped on the pub. It is unclear whether the road closure is related to the armed police incident. Officers were reportedly heard shouting: “Armed police, anyone inside show yourself.” Six to seven officers were seen entering the large pub and are thought to be searching it.

The FBI has asked the Senate for unredacted documents it obtained from abortion providers, signaling agents may be investigating whether Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers illegally sold fetal tissue and body parts, according to sources familiar with the document request. The request was made in recent days, the sources said, to the Senate Judiciary Committee, whose chairman, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), last December referred Planned Parenthood and several other abortion providers to the FBI for investigation after a lengthy probe into the transfers of fetal tissue. Grassley said at the time that his committee had uncovered enough evidence in

The most remarkable thing about the current tide of sexual assault and harassment accusations is not their number. If every woman in America started talking about the things that happen during the course of an ordinary female life, it would never end. Nor is it the power of the men involved; history instructs us that for countless men, the ability to possess women sexually is not a spoil of power; it’s the point of power. What’s remarkable is that these women are being believed. Most of them don’t have police reports or witnesses or physical evidence; many of them are recounting

CEI filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request in October asking for emails between two Obama administration State Department officials and a lawyer for the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, which is chaired by Tennessee Sen.
