(Video) During Friday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Chicago in the Crosshairs” town hall, Representative Bobby Rush (D-IL), who defeated President Obama in a primary race for Rush’s seat in the House, stated, “we have not yet at this moment, including the eight years of Obama, had someone in the White House who really cared about this city and about these problems here in the city of Chicago.” Rush said, “I don’t know what Trump means when he’s saying, bring in the feds. First of all, my challenge to Trump is, Trump, bring your rump into the city of Chicago. Go to
RUSH: You know, I long for the days of Andrew Jackson and Abraham Lincoln, just arrest the judges and put them in jail when they violate your constitutional authority. I don’t think people have any idea who Andrew Jackson was. They think he was a populist. They don’t know what he did. He went too far, don’t misunderstand. But this is simply outrageous.
Democrats are desperately hoping that their self-described “Resistance” to President Trump can take off in the same way that opposition to President Obama launched a new political movement in 2009. As Molly Ball asks, “Is the Anti-Trump ‘Resistance’ the New Tea Party?” No, it isn’t. They’ve been trying this ever since 2010, when some cloyingly earnest young lefties tried to start a Coffee Party that was launched with great fanfare and a lot of mainstream media publicity and never heard from again. The Left never really tried to understand the Tea Party movement and what drove it, so they have
Former Baylor President Ken Starr - who left the school amid a massive sexual assault scandal - is reportedly on President Donald Trump´s shortlist of potential leaders for his administration´s Office of Religious Freedom. Starr, the former independent counsel who investigated Bill Clinton´s sexual activities during his presidency, has been put on the shortlist for ambassador-at-large for international religious freedom, a source close to the process said. The State Department job promotes religious freedom worldwide and monitors religious persecution. ´It´s my understanding that it´s his job if he wants it,´ the source told Foreign Policy magazine on Thursday. Starr, 70,
The Obamas appear to be modeling their post-White House life after the Clintons, by joining the speaking circuit. On Friday, it was reported that the former president and first lady had signed to Harry Walker Agency, the same agency that represents Bill Clinton. No official speaking events have been announced yet. The couple have also hired attorneys Robert Barnett and Deneen Howell to help with with book deals. Barnett previously helped the Clintons, George W. Bush and wife Laura, Sarah Palin and Ted Kennedy get published. Mr Obama has already written two books, but this will be the first time
Former first lady Michelle Obama will reportedly appear as a guest star on the fifth season of Fox’s “MasterChef Junior” with chef Gordon Ramsay. The Los Angeles Times reported Thursday that Mrs. Obama is among several big names, including Martha Stewart and The Muppets, who will be replacing chef Graham Elliot as he exits the show after four seasons. The fifth season premiered Thursday evening on Fox. The news came less than three weeks after Mrs. Obama and her husband, former President Barack Obama, left the White House to President Donald Trump. The Obamas spent their time off following Mr. Trump’s inauguration by
At Defining Ideas, Michael McConnell, a former federal appellate judge and now a distinguished professor at Stanford Law School, addresses the 9th Circuit panel’s decision denying the Trump administration’s motion for an emergency stay, and finds it wanting. Michael makes the same point I made here, but he makes it better: The Ninth Circuit did not hold that aliens abroad who do not presently hold visas or green cards have any constitutional right to travel to the United States. That is the vast majority of applications of the executive order. The court spent several paragraphs explaining why the Order cannot
Washington For the first time, US investigators say they have corroborated some of the communications detailed in a 35-page dossier compiled by a former British intelligence agent, multiple current and former US law enforcement and intelligence officials tell CNN. As CNN first reported, then-President-elect Donald Trump and President Barack Obama were briefed on the existence of the dossier prior to Trump´s inauguration. None of the newly learned information relates to the salacious allegations in the dossier. Rather it relates to conversations between foreign nationals. The dossier details about a dozen conversations between senior Russian officials and other Russian individuals. Sources would
Up to 150 Conservative MPs will support a no confidence motion against House of Commons Speaker John Bercow after he said he would not allow US President Donald Trump to address Parliament during a state visit, breaking protocols of impartiality.Earlier this week Bercow told MPs that Trump should not be allowed to address Parliament because the US president is “racist” and “sexist.” Bercow said addressing Parliament is “not an automatic right” but an “earned honor.” James Duddridge, Tory MP for Rochford and Southend East, described Bercow’s comments as “wholly inappropriate” and has tabled a no confidence motion to remove him. The early day
Duke University is sponsoring a workshop for the purpose of training students to engage in activism against President Trump’s administration. LGBTQA activist Mandy Carter will lead the February 15 event, which is titled “Ideas for Activism in the Time of Trump.” The university-sponsored event will focus on “Understanding the importance of the changing of hearts and minds and the changing of public policy in social justice movements,” and “How our North Carolina Moral Monday Movement can be a model of a diverse coalition that brings together social justice people to take a stand against the Trump Administration.” One of the recommended resources on
The D.C. police are investigating a possible assault against Education Secretary Betsy DeVos when she was blocked from entering a local middle school Friday morning. The police department tweeted one man had been arrested for assaulting a police officer at the protest at Jefferson Middle School Academy. "Report that @BetsyDeVos was assaulted is under investigation," the account tweeted. DeVos first tried to enter the building when protesters physically blocked the stairwell. DeVos and her staff turned away and were followed by a chanting protester who ripped her for her political donations to Republicans. The protester chanted "Shame!" at DeVos as she got into
A grand jury has indicted more than 100 Inauguration Day protesters on rioting charges in Washington, D.C. In total, 209 people have now been indicted. The indictment, handed up D.C. Superior Court on Wednesday, charged 146 additional protesters with felony rioting — meaning they face a fine of up to $25,000 and a maximum of 10 years in prison. On Inauguration Day — Jan. 20 — 230 people were arrested and charged with felony rioting. Twelve cases have been dismissed. Local, state and federal law enforcement agencies provided 3,000 officers and were supported by 5,000 National Guard members and police officers in
President Trump acknowledged the One China policy in his telephone call with China´s leader Xi Jinping yesterday. Many of my conservative friends thought that a challenge to the One China policy would display America backbone. In this case Trump is exactly correct. America must stand up to China, but rejecting the One China policy is the wrong way to go about it. "China is a territory and China is a people," Xi Jinping told Barack Obama at the November 2014 APEC Summit in Beijing, as the conversation was related to me. "China´s population may rise 10% or fall 10%, but there
Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ nomination process was not smooth. It was fraught with political games and gimmicks that delayed his committee vote and his final confirmation vote. Alas, on Wednesday night, he was confirmed to be our top legal enforcer by a 52-47 vote; Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) broke with Democrats to vote for Sessions. Yet, while the attorney general took heat, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), the Senate’s only black Republican who supported his nomination, was bombarded by racist tweets by the Left.
Conservative hawks are grumbling about this today but I find it hard to fault a president for not hiring a guy who once deemed him unfit for office, especially when that president is already besieged by embarrassing leaks from skeptics within his administration. If you’re nervous about your deputies airing your dirty laundry, why would you hire a new one who’s already on record as not thinking much of you? Here’s how Abrams began an op-ed for the Weekly Standard in May 2016: “The party has nominated someone who cannot win and should not be president of the United States.
Several towns, cities and counties around the nation are caving to President Trump´s threat to pull funding, and abandoning their "sanctuary" pledges to shield illegal immigrants from federal authorities. Dayton, Ohio, dropped a policy that restricted the city’s cooperation with immigration officials pursuing illegal immigrants arrested for misdemeanors or felony property crimes, according to the Dayton Daily News. Police Chief Richard Biehl said federal authorities will no longer be impeded by the city when pursuing illegal immigrants being held by his department. Other communities that have dropped policies of shielding illegal immigrant suspects from Immigration and Customs Enforcement include Miami-Dade
National Security Adviser Michael Flynn discussed U.S. sanctions against Russia with the Russian ambassador before President Trump took office, according to new reports that prompted the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee to call for Mr. Flynn’s immediate firing. Mr. Flynn denied he had discussed the sanctions with Ambassador Sergey Kislyak to The Washington Post on Wednesday before a spokesman said Thursday that while Mr. Flynn had no recollection of discussing sanctions, he “couldn’t be certain” that the topic never came up. The Post said its report relied on “nine current and former officials” who were in senior
DONALD Trump is considering a brand new executive order on immigration after a US appeals court upheld the suspension of his controversial travel ban, according to reports. The White House has reportedly confirmed there are no plans to launch a Supreme Court appeal to reinstate Trump’s travel ban. The President told reporters on Air Force One: "We also have a lot of other options." Among those options are an entirely new immigration plan, or the possibility of rewriting the existing order. Trump suggested “very little” who be changed in a new executive order, which could be signed as early as Monday or
Demonstrators hit the streets of Los Angeles to protest against reported raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials which allegedly led to more than 100 people being detained. The protesters gathered near the Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown Los Angeles to peacefully protest the raids on Thursday, KTLA reported. They closed off a street to through traffic for about two hours, chanting "No hate! No fear! Immigrants are welcome here!" Many of the demonstrators held signs which included phrases such as "Stop separating families" and "Immigrants in, Racists out." The ICE raids were conducted at homes across three Southern California counties on Thursday,
Margaret York, entrepreneur (her description), likes to conduct her business affairs within the elegant confines of The Library Bar of London’s Lanesborough Hotel. As she swigs on her favourite tipple, Laurent-Perrier Rosé, she meets with the great and the good to discuss possible money-spinning ventures. Multi-millionaire magnates, private equity whizz kids, Swiss financiers — Ms York holds court with them all. Yet to anyone not among Ms York’s party who happens to be enjoying a cocktail in the Library Bar when she is in situ, this vivacious entrepreneur might look rather familiar. Indeed you would be forgiven for thinking that her resemblance to
Donald Trump is not interested in addressing Parliament when he makes a state visit to the UK this summer, it emerged last night. More than 200 MPs have backed a call for the US President to be refused the chance to make a joint address in Westminster Hall during his expected visit in June. Commons Speaker John Bercow also launched an extraordinary attack on Mr Trump this week, saying his ´racism and sexism´ meant he was not fit to be accorded the honour. But a Whitehall source last night revealed Mr Trump had shown ´no interest´ in making a speech.
(Video) A retired U.S. Marine who works as a private security contractor took to Facebook to warn of the dangers Americans still face in Iraq. Steven Gern´s video, which was posted from Iraq and has been viewed more than 44 million times, came just a few days after President Trump´s executive order triggered massive protests at U.S. airports. The order temporarily banned travel from seven Muslim-majority countries, including Iraq, Iran and Syria. Gern relayed a short message about conversations he had about the controversial order with Iraqis. He said he asked them what would happen if he, an American, "went
Dallas- A Mexican woman faces 8 years in prison and deportation for voter fraud. (Photo) CBS reports: The family of a woman convicted of voter fraud is speaking out after a Tarrant County jury sentenced her to eight years in prison. Prosecutors say the reason officials at the elections department in Dallas didn’t stop the voter fraud from happening is because Rosa Ortega claimed she was a citizen on her application. Now the Tarrant County D.A.’s office
What do you do when President Trump’s adviser Kellyanne Conway tweets that your mom is a loser?Chelsea Clinton, who attended her friend Tanya Taylor’s fashion presentation Friday, shared some helpful advice on how to deal with social media bullies: Focus on making your voice heard and ignore the taunts and low blows. “Just have it be background noise,” she told The Post.
The owner of the Washington, D.C.-area gym chain Solidcore was fuming when she found out First Daughter Ivanka Trump took her exercise class, writing Thursday on Facebook that Ivanka´s father, President Donald Trump, "is threatening the rights of my beloved clients and coaches." Anne Mahlum, founder of Solidcore, took to Facebook to express her outrage after learning that Ivanka Trump chose her gym for a workout class and used an alias to hide her identity, the Washington Examiner reported. A popular talking point on the left is that Donald Trump has things in common with Hitler. But is this the case? Independent Journal Review decided to speak to a woman born in Nazi Germany about the comparison. We talked with Inga Andrews, who was born in Dusseldorf, Germany, during Hitler´s reign. While most kids were playing with friends, Andrews was hiding in air raid shelters and helping to clean up the rubble from destroyed buildings to rebuild her city. Andrews said: "What is going on in this country is giving me chills. Trump is not like Hitler. Just because
