Islamic State leaders have published an statement online apologizing for leaking the Steven Sotloff execution video ahead of schedule. Vocativ reports that an Islamic State-affiliated twitter account, which is now suspended, published the video ahead of the prescribed time. The group then apologized to its followers for the lack of discipline in a text missive on JustPaste.it. “A clarification about the mistake was made by ‘Uyun al-Ummah’ account, that has published the video before the official time,” the group said, as translated by Vocativ. “The user saw a tweet with the video and thought it was published officially.

Two former U.S. senators, Trent Lott and John Breaux, have been hired by a state-controlled Russian bank to lobby against U.S. sanctions put in place because of Russia’s aggression towards Ukraine. A lobbying registration form filed Friday shows that Gazprompank GPB hired the firm Squire Patton Boggs to lobby on issues including “banking laws and regulations including applicable sanctions,” a report from the Center for Public Integrity reads. Gazprombank GPB is a subsidiary of Gazprombank, Russia’s third-largest financial institution. It is controlled by the state-controlled energy company Gazprom. In July, the U.S. Treasury Department slapped Gazprombank and several other large Russian companies with

American Ebola survivor Nancy Writebol said Wednesday she followed “God’s call” to serve in Liberia and that a quick test meant to reassure everyone she did not have the deadly virus turned into a life-changing diagnosis. Mrs. Writebol, speaking publicly for the first time since her recovery in Atlanta and late-August release, said she never felt fear despite knowing she could die from the virus. “It’s going to be OK, it’s going to be OK,” she recalled saying during a press conference in Serving in Mission USA’s campus near Charlotte, N.C. “I had no clue what was going to happen. Of course I knew what the outcome could be.

As the world burns, President Obama is taking criticism from all sides. Even Salon editor (and Free Beacon aficionado) Joan Walsh has conceded: “I’d probably have suggested not golfing after [Obama’s] moving statement on journalist James Foley’s execution.” Of course, most of this criticism is due to the prevalence of social media, but even so, Obama defenders have returned to one of their favorite arguments: Criticism of our current president is unprecedented; literally no one criticized the sitting president until 2009. (Cartoons) Did Franklin Roosevelt play a lot golf during his presidency? Franklin. Roosevelt. Whatever, don’t want to step on

There’s a new GoPro accessory called Fetch, a specialized harness that lets you attach a camera to your pets. And when one dog owner hooked up his pooch with the device, the result was nothing short of insane. It’s a bit disorienting to watch the video, because the dog (named Walter) runs so quickly. And literally, the exact second the camera is attached to Walter, it runs off, makes its way to the beach, and jumps in the water. You can watch the video below:

Republicans are launching an investigation into the cozy relationship between the Environmental Protection Agency and an environmental lobbying group that has allegedly played a major role in crafting recent global warming rules and stymieing an Alaska mining project. Louisiana Sen. David Vitter and California Rep. Darrell Issa sent a letter to the EPA and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) asking for records regarding the environmental group’s role in drafting a rule limiting carbon dioxide emissions from existing power plants, and blocking a permit for the Pebble Mine in Alaska. “It appears that NRDC’s unprecedented access to high-level EPA officials

Appreciation comes in many different forms, some more dignified than others. For us, the YouTube video released Tuesday by the American Civil Liberties Union falls into the "less-than-dignified" category. Then again, maybe we´re being unfair. Maybe you disagree with our characterization and maybe you think the video, titled “A Day Without The Constitution,” is some lighthearted fun. But I think we can all agree that the video is terribly bizarre, yes? From the video´s description: Have you ever thought about what a day could look like if the Constitution had not been ratified 225 years ago? Watch this video and take a moment to reflect

Rudy Giuliani has plans to change golf. Let’s shorten the course and make playing 12 holes instead of 18 holes the norm,” Giuliani declared in a Hamptons magazine cover story with golfer Raymond Floyd. “I’ve played tennis for 20 years, and I’ve never played five sets like the pros do,” he explained. “I’ll play three sets with my pals. So why play 18 holes? That’s what pros do to win tournaments.” Giuliani
