Obama’s herky-jerky leadership
Washington Post, by Ruth Marcus    Original Article

The word of the day is herky-jerky, which is a polite way of saying erratic. And which, I regret to report, is a fitting description of President Obama’s handling of immigration. And, I regret even more, a metaphor for his stumbling stewardship. o recap and add perspective: The country’s immigration policy is broken, with 11 million undocumented immigrants forced to live in the shadows. That this situation endures is the fault of House Republicans who, captive to a gerrymandered, cable-inflamed populace that greets every reasonable solution with cries of “amnesty,” have rejected any comprehensive solution. This recalcitrance may be rational,

U.S. military dependence

The rising tensions with Russia over its aggression in Ukraine is creating national security concerns inside the Pentagon, where the military’s largest satellite program is reliant on a rocket engine produced by Moscow. The Air Force said it has begun looking for alternatives to the RD-180 rocket engines for its Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle program — the fourth largest line item in the U.S. defense budget — now that Russia has threatened to cut off the technology in its -for-tat struggle with the U.S. Lawmakers and national security analysts said they were aghast that the military allowed itself to become

The family of a South Carolina teenager who was ordered to remove his makeup before taking a driver´s license photo this year has filed a federal lawsuit against the state Department of Motor Vehicles, according to court records. Chase Culpepper, a 16-year-old who identifies as male but wears makeup and women´s clothing on a regular basis, was ordered to remove his makeup by DMV officials when he tried to obtain his driver´s license in March. The agency argued that Chase was, in effect, attempting to disguise his appearance by not appearing as a male. The New York-based Transgender Legal

Obama underestimated Islamic

Washington Times, by Rowan Scarborough    Original Article

From Russia to Syria to Iraq to al Qaeda, President Obama and his aides have underestimated the motives and capabilities of U.S. adversaries. With regard to some, the Obama team initially characterized bad actors as U.S. partners, such as in the cases of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Syrian President Bashar Assad. In other instances, Mr. Obama ridiculed as a “JV team” the rampaging Islamic State terrorist group, said al Qaeda was “on the run” and declared Iraq secure as he pulled out all troops against the military’s advice. “I think, unfortunately, that the Obama administration has put a higher

Beijing — More foreign firms are feeling unwelcome in China, the American Chamber of Commerce in China said as it released the results of a survey about the business climate in the world´s second-largest economy. The lobbying group said Tuesday that 60% of 163 respondents to its poll said they feel less welcome in China than before. That is up from 41% in a survey released late last year. Nearly half of the respondents also believe that foreign companies are being singled out in recent government campaigns investigating pricing practices and corruption, up from 40% in the 2013 survey.

Brooklyn cops were ordered to ignore blatantly illegal liquor sales inside three junkyards that were turned into open-air nightclubs — drawing thousands of rowdy revelers who vomited and urinated in the streets during the Labor Day weekend, The Post has learned. A 25-year-old man who was at one of the parties tied to the West Indian Day Parade was critically injured by two drunken men who followed him outside and stabbed him with a broken beer bottle. While the junkyard parties have been operating illegally for several years, cops cracked down and shut them all about three weeks ago,

Detroit will not recover, and it may not survive as a major city if its debts are not significantly reduced during bankruptcy, a city attorney told a federal judge at the start of a critical phase of the case on Tuesday. As Detroit´s state-appointed emergency manager Kevyn Orr looked on in the courtroom, Bruce Bennett, an attorney for the city, sought to convince Judge Steven Rhodes that Detroit´s 1,034-page plan to adjust $18 billion of debt would save the city. "There is no doubt, your honor, that progress has been made, but Detroit is still a city in distress," said

But if you had paid much attention to Sterling prior to the TMZ-leaked audio, you probably didn’t cheer—not because you weren’t troubled by Sterling’s comments, but because Sterling’s downfall over those particular comments felt a bit anticlimactic. In just the last five or six years the world has been fundamentally transformed. Instead of the old accustomed Western-inspired postwar global order, crafted and ensured by the United States and its European and Japanese partners, there is now mostly chaos, from Ukraine to Syria to the South China Sea. Or, rather, there may be emerging new rules, given that we are still frozen in a Wild West moment, when everyone in the saloon has drawn his six-shooter, paused, and is wondering what happened to the sheriff — and wondering, too, who will be the first to dare start shooting.

Hume spoke with Fox’s Bret Baier about the Tuesday release of a second video showing the savage decapitation of American journalist Steven Sotloff by an ISIS fighter. “What about the political power of this image?” Baier asked. “What does that mean here in the U.S.?” “Well the American military is, at the moment, kind of a sleeping giant, and

MOSCOW — President Vladimir V. As NATO leaders gathered in Wales for a summit meeting, Mr. Putin’s remarks and the increasing presence of Russian military units in Ukraine posed a stark new challenge to the alliance about how to respond to Moscow’s apparent willingness to exert military force to achieve its foreign policy goals. The Kremlin did not deny the remark,

President Obama said last Thursday that he doesn´t "have a strategy yet" to combat the Islamic State in the Middle East. Worse is what Obama didn´t say — not one word about how to prevent the IS from attacking us right here in the U.S. That´s despite security experts warning Congress repeatedly that the IS´ gory threats to spill American blood should be taken seriously. Compare Obama´s inaction to Prime Minister David Cameron´s decisive action. After British security experts raised the terrorist threat assessment there to "severe," meaning an attack is "highly likely," Cameron called for revoking passports of British citizens returning
