President Vladimir Putin said on Friday Russia´s armed forces, backed by its nuclear arsenal, were ready to meet any aggression, declaring at a pro-Kremlin youth camp that foreign states should understand: "It´s best not to mess with us."Putin told the assembly, on the banks of a lake near Moscow, the Russian takeover of Crimea in March was essential to save a largely Russian-speaking population from Ukrainian government violence. He said continued fighting in eastern Ukraine, where pro-Russian separatists launched an uprising in April, was the result of a refusal by Kiev to negotiate. THREE RIVERS, Tex. — Whenever overseas turmoil has pushed energy prices higher in the past, John and Beth Hughes have curbed their driving by eating at home more and shopping locally. (snip) “We were able to take a day-cation because of the lower gas prices,” said Ms. Hughes. The reason for the improved economics of road travel can be found 10,000 feet below the ground here, where the South Texas Eagle Ford shale is providing more than a million new barrels of oil supplies to the world market every day. United States refinery production in recent weeks reached record highs and left supply depots flush, cushioning the impact of all the instability surrounding traditional global oil fields.

The poll shows that 68 percent of Democrats believe that global climate change is a major threat to the United States, compared to just 25 percent of Republicans. In contrast, 65 percent of Democrats believe that ISIS is a major threat, three points less than climate change. Seventy-eight percent of Republicans cited ISIS as a major threat -+ a partisan difference of 13 points. Eighty percent of Republicans also cite “Islamic extremist groups like al Qaeda” as

Alexander the Great. Stonewall Jackson. George S. Patton. To this list of some of history´s greatest military strategists, a new name must be added: that of Barack Obama. That is, if you agree with Joe Scarborough´s take on President Obama´s statement at yesterday´s press conference that "we don´t have a strategy yet" regarding possible attacks on ISIS in Syria. According to Scarborough, speaking on today´s Morning Joe, President Obama´s "no strategy" statement was "straight out of The Art of War where when you were weak, you make your enemies think you were strong. NEW YORK- The family of an Arizona shooting range instructor accidentally killed by a 9-year-old girl while he was teaching her to use an Uzi said they feel sorry for the child. Instructor Charles Vacca was standing next to the girl on Monday at the Last Stop range in White Hills, Arizona, about 60 miles south of Las Vegas, when she squeezed the trigger. The recoil wrenched the Uzi upward, and the 39-year-old Vacca was fatally shot once in the head. His daughter, 19-year-old Ashley, told NBC´s "Today" show that the family knows it was a "tragic accident" and something

There have been several reports of American citizens joining (and even dying for) ISIS, and now a man in Chicago was arrested this week after waving an ISIS flag out the window of his car and threatening to detonate a bomb when the police tried to inspect the vehicle. A resident called police upon seeing Emad Karakrah with the ISIS flag hanging out of his car. When police responded, Karakrah drove off, and made it through several red lights before being pulled over. And then, as he was being arrested, Karakrah reportedly made a serious threat. The man told police during his arrest

A growing number of Americans say they believe the U.S. Department of Justice is motivated primarily by political interests and not by the pursuit of the truth, according to a survey from Rasmussen Reports. The poll, which was conducted on Aug. 26-27 and contains a sampling margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points, found that only 38 percent of U.S. voters hold a favorable opinion of the department headed by Attorney General Eric Holder, while a much larger 53 percent hold an unfavorable opinion. Further, of these respondents, only nine percent hold a “very favorable” opinion, while 26

The Kurdish tanker disappeared from Coast Guard radar screens following a month of legal wrangling over whether it can offload its cargo in the U.S. As the disintegration of Iraq amid mounting violence continues, the semi-autonomous regime in Kurdistan – in the north of Iraq – is trying to cash in on Iraq´s oil reserves and export its own crude. Iraqi Kurdistan has exported at least eight million barrels of oil

David Cameron has said the root cause of an increased terror threat to the UK is a "poisonous ideology of Islamist extremism". The UK terror threat level was raised to severe from substantial on Friday, meaning a terrorist attack on the UK is "highly likely". At a news conference in Downing Street, Mr Cameron said the Iraq war in 2004 was not to blame for the rise of Islamic State (IS), which has seized swathes of territory across Iraq and Syria to form an "Islamic caliphate" and carried out beheadings and mass killings.

Republican gubernatorial nominee Charlie Baker took his first lead in the Boston Globe poll series, edging Coakley barely, while neither candidate looks to be catching fire: Republican Charlie Baker has edged ahead of Democrat Martha Coakley in the race for governor,

After lots of bluster about striking ISIS on Syria, President Obama threw cold water on the idea, disappointing those who wanted him to broaden the war. After a week of talk of eliminating the "cancer" of ISIS, President Obama said Thursday that he was not planning to significantly expand the war against the Islamic extremist movement anytime soon. His remarks came after days of heated debate inside the top levels of his own national security bureaucracy about how, where, and whether to strike ISIS in Syria. But those deliberations – which included a bleak intelligence assessment of America´s potential allies

In 1978, Star Wars won seven Academy Awards. But if you want to watch that original version, the first of George Lucas’s soon to be seven-part saga, you’ll find it difficult. In fact, it’s actually impossible to buy an official copy of Star Wars as it was first released. Lucas doesn’t want you to see that version. Instead, he wants you to watch the continuously updated special editions—movies with added CGI, changed sound effects, and whole new scenes. According to some fans, every element that prompted the Academy to recognize the original Star Wars has been changed in these new versions.

Christiana Figueres, the top UN climate official, said upcoming negotiations on an international global warming accord should be viewed as a health issue. “The logic behind the comment from Christiana Figueres, the U.N. climate chief, is that older, dirtier forms of energy are likely the first to

"I´m supposed to do this in 30 seconds?" he joked, noting the issue´s complexity. While he was optimistic about long-term prospects for dealing with border security and immigration, he said, "between now and the end of this Congress, I´m a little less sanguine about it." On Thursday, President Obama held a press conference in which he humiliated himself entirely on the question of America’s handling of the terror group ISIS. Explaining that he had to consult Congress and check the pulse of Americans, Obama stated, “I don’t want to put the cart before the horse. We don’t have a strategy yet.” Which begs the question: what the hell does this guy do for a living? ISIS has been on the move since April 2013, when Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi announced that ISIS was moving into Iraq as well as Syria. On June 29, 2014, ISIS announced

A violent father-of-two escaped deportation moments before being put on a plane to Jamaica – by suddenly declaring he was homosexual. Alvin Brissett, 55, was ordered to be sent back to his Jamaican homeland after building up a long criminal record including thefts, drug possession, and assaults. Yet at the last moment, while he was in handcuffs in a van at Gatwick airport, he announced that he was gay and claimed he could not be sent to Jamaica because he could face discrimination there. This claim halted his deportation in its tracks. And even though a hearing subsequently ruled it

President Obama gave the most amazing news conference Thursday. He´d hoped to highlight mildly encouraging news on the economy, which he says is Americans´ top priority. But Obama´s current JV communications strategists should have known that was futile, given the winds of war blowing and exploding around the world. Syria, Iraq, Ukraine, ISIS, China all underscoring the perceived weakness and inaction of the American leader who so badly wants his mere words to sway events. Obama says the Muslim extremists, whose barbarism brings a whole new meaning to the word 'extremists," do not belong in the 21st century.

Do not be fooled by Hillary Clinton’s attempt to rehabilitate her term as Secretary of State ahead of the 2016 presidential election. From 2009 to 2013, Clinton embodied U.S. foreign affairs even as President Obama’s avowed policy of self-effacement descended into listless, desultory abdication. Notwithstanding her recent critiques of Obama’s performance, Clinton’s failures as Secretary of State helped bring war to Europe, an arms race to Asia, and inferno to the Middle-East. The U.S. and its international standing are weaker for Clinton’s tenure as Secretary of State. Clinton’s mistakes began early, with her contribution to the misconceived and poorly executed

But while the White House went into damage-control mode, emphasizing that it was a reference to the lack of decisions about increasing military action in Iraq and/or Syria and not a lack of a broader strategy there, the damage was already done. As with all gaffes, the worst ones are the ones that confirm people´s pre-existing suspicions or fit into an easy narrative. That´s why "47 percent" stung Mitt Romney so much, and its
