This Town´s Favorite Cop

ADA, Okla.—This city´s police chief last year made what would become a very popular decision, assigning a rookie to traffic duty even though the new officer was known to be heartless. Since the greenhorn´s patrol car began appearing in neighborhoods where people had complained about speeding drivers, he has become so beloved that townspeople are buying him doughnuts, praising him on Facebook and working his name into sermons. The officer proved better suited to the task of deterring speeders than experienced cops, says Police Chief Mike Miller, because of a compelling attribute: He´s a dummy. "He didn´t cost us anything," Mr. Miller says

Islamic State militants have seized a major Syrian air base, wiping out the last government stronghold in a province dominated by jihadists. The extremists won a week-long battle today to capture the sprawling Tabqa base 25 miles from their stronghold in Raqqa, reportedly killing dozens of soldiers in the process. The base was reportedly one of the military´s largest facilities in the region, with several warplane squadrons, helicopters, tanks, artillery and ammunition.

It is one of a series of measures being considered by the Government to stop would-be extremists travelling to the Middle East and threatening the security of Britons when they return home. Belgium and Australia have already introduced similar legislation and last month the idea was included by a think-tank as part of a series of recommendations on counter-terrorism measures in a report to US Homeland Security. Home Secretary Theresa May has vowed that the Government will give itself “all the legal powers” necessary to prevail against the threat of terrorism here and last night a senior Coalition source demanded benefits be

When does media reporting become actual collusion with selling propaganda ? Perhaps the story of Mike Brown’s autopsy will provide food for thought. We suspected from the outset the Parks and Crump version of the Mike Brown autopsy was likely just a propaganda ploy to sell their narrative. We knew New York Times reporter Frances Robles was sympathetic to their scheme because she was similarly predisposed in 2012 with the Trayvon Martin narrative. In 2012 Robles worked for the Miami Herald. Indeed, based on history, we expected to see blurred lines of journalistic ethics. What we didn’t expect with the

EDGARTOWN, Mass. • President Barack Obama is sending three White House aides to the funeral of Michael Brown, the young black man whose fatal shooting by a white police officer sparked days of racial unrest in Ferguson, Missouri. The announcement came Sunday as Rep. Lacy Clay, the Democratic congressman representing Ferguson, credited a visit by U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder for defusing some of the tension in the North St. Louis County suburb. Leading the White House group for Monday´s service will be the chairman of the My Brother´s Keeper Task Force, Broderick Johnson. My Brother´s Keeper is an Obama

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has said that he would not recommend U.S. military airstrikes against Islamic State militants in Syria until he determines that they have become a direct threat to the U.S. Gen. Martin Dempsey, speaking to reporters on board a military plane traveling to Afghanistan, said Sunday that he believes the Sunni insurgent group formerly known as ISIS is more of a regional threat and is not currently plotting or planning attacks against the U.S. or Europe. ISIS has repeatedly made threats to attack the U.S. through social and conventional media. Earlier this month, in a

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — It is a lingering mystery of Bill Clinton’s White House: the genesis of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy that gay groups came to revile. But soon, this and other secrets that remain hidden away here at the Clinton Presidential Library may be unlocked. What did the Justice Department say about all the random requests for pardons? What kind of advice came from Clinton staffers such as now-Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan? What strategic thoughts were offered to the president and first lady Hillary Clinton on terrorism, Whitewater and health care reform? And what’s the library been

Rahm Emanuel: Chicago not murder capital

Rahm Emanuel is pushing back against suggestions that violence in his city is out of control, touting new statistics that show violent crime is down in Chicago “The narrative is: We’re the murder capital. Not close,” the Chicago mayor said during an interview with POLITICO. When asked about perception of crime in Chicago, Emanuel was quick to note that he is most concerned with the opinions of his city’s residents about the safety of their communities. But the mayor still seems frustrated with the media, which he feels is focusing on individual incidents of crime without telling the whole story. Read more:

Let’s assume he is indeed who he sounds like--another deluded British-born jihadi. [Snip] Young men such as this killer are famously told that if they die in “battle” they will be welcomed in heaven by the sexual ministrations of 72 virgins. Many of them believe it--even though scholars have suggested that the reference to “black-eyed virgins” is in fact a promise of 72 raisins. I suspect most of us don’t give a monkey’s what happens to this prat in heaven, whether he meets virgins or raisins--we just want someone to come along with a bunker-buster and effect an introduction as

Even though the Obama Administration proposes spending $25 billion specifically to “provide support for hundreds of thousands of education jobs” in order to “keep teachers in the classroom,” research by both Heritage andThe Fordham Institute reveal alarming numbers: only half of education jobs belong to teachers.

In an obvious attempt to help the Democrats preserve their Senate majority, the “reporters” of the legacy news media have been hard at work promoting a new Obamacare meme. The Los Angeles Times assisted in the launch of this propaganda campaign early this month with a piece titled, “Obamacare loses some of its campaign punch for Republicans.” (snip) The voters didn’t get that memo. They revile the health care law more than ever. Many mornings, just before 7 a.m., a large tanker truck pulls up to the grand gates of Oprah Winfrey’s 40-acre estate in Montecito, California. Inside is neither merchandise nor produce – just water. A year ago, Oprah’s annual bill from the Montecito Water District was just shy of $125,000. This year, it is less than half. Like many in this wealthy enclave, Oprah has cut back on her consumption of district water. That said, her property has its own wells and a small lake and, according to neighbors, there are the trucks. These days, tankers can be seen barreling down Montecito’s narrow

President Barack Obama´s summer vacation off the Massachusetts coast has come to an end. The president returned to the White House late Sunday after spending two weeks with his family on the island of Martha´s Vineyard. What a break it turned out to be. His attempt at rest and relaxation was largely overtaken by events involving Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria, including the videotaped execution of an American journalist they had been holding hostage, and the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, following the fatal police shooting of an unarmed black man. Obama broke from his vacation to deliver statements on Iraq,

Near the height of annual harvesting and tourist season, California´s Napa Valley wineries were struck hard by Sunday´s magnitude-6.0 earthquake, but many reported surprisingly light damage. The early morning earthquake, whose epicenter was about 9 miles south of Napa, jolted residents and had winemakers scrambling to check their homes and businesses. "It was a very violent awakening," says Sandy Taylor, co-founder of the Taylor Family Winery in Napa. "It seemed to shake a long time. Our dogs and cats bailed out." Taylor says her winery, about a mile from the epicenter, lost one barrel of 2013 Chardonnay. "The finished bottles at the winery

Officer Wilson is the white Ferguson, Missouri policeman who shot unarmed black 18 year old robber Michael Brown in a confrontation in the middle of a neighborhood street minutes after Brown

“About half the practice of a decent lawyer consists in telling would-be clients that they are damned fools and should stop.” So supposedly said Elihu Root, New York lawyer and secretary of war and of state, and U.S. senator from 1909 to 1915. Today it seems that many liberal “would-be clients” are in desperate need of what Root called “a decent lawyer.” Take Texans for Public Justice, the so-called public interest group that has been pushing for the indictment of Gov. Rick Perry by a grand jury at the urging of special prosecutor Michael McCrum. The basis for the indictment is, in the

Despite enduring thousands of Hamas rockets in the past ten weeks, the whole of Israel is far safer now than it was a decade ago, and safer than many American cities. Indeed, two initiatives long favored by American conservatives, namely missile defense and a border fence, have made the current unpleasantness with Hamas little more than an unfortunate distraction from the true existential threat, which is Iranian nukes. Since the Hamas attacks began June 13, the rockets from Gaza have killed seven people in all of Israel while wounding only a few dozen more. An August 19–20 tour of both the

In America justice is supposed to be blind not our commander-in-chief. In Obama’s topsy-turvy America justice is not blind but our President is-and willfully so-when it comes to threats facing Americans. Will he remove his blinders? Only if he is forced to and by then it may be too late. Charles Krauthammer, one of America’s smartest columnists, said it best regarding President Obama and the threats to America coming from ISIS: “I don’t think the issue is the president was unaware or taken by surprise. I think this was willful blindness to the nature of the threat.”

A forensic analysis commissioned by The UK Times found many irregularities in the video — making it appear to not be the actual execution of the doomed freelancer. The analysis concluded that Foley was beheaded, but it possibly did not occur on camera. “I think it has been staged,” one visual forensics expert said in The Times report. “My feeling is that the execution may have happened after the camera was stopped.” Two major oddities in

Amusement parks — especially water parks — have never been more popular. More than 26 million people went to a Six Flags last year. Suddenly, America is sick and tired of Barack Obama. He has become an embarrassment and, worse than that, a threat to the personal security and peace of mind of American citizenry as a whole. It is all too obvious that he is not up to the task of being captain of the ship of state at a time of increasing peril. So what to do about it? Should he be impeached? If so, for what crime? You can’t impeach him for the “crime” of frivolity — or the “crime” of excessive partying at fund-raising junkets with his Hollywood pals during national emergencies. You can’t

The Pentagon will conduct a crucial flight test of a new ultra-high speed missile this week that is a key part of the strategic weapons program of preparing arms that can attack any point on earth in 30 minutes. The flight test of the Army’s Advanced Hypersonic Weapon will take place as early as Monday from the Kodiak Launch Complex on Kodiak Island, Alaska, said defense officials familiar with test planning. The missile will be boosted to near space on a rocket and then glide to the Reagan Test Site on the South Pacific Kwajalein Atoll at speeds of several thousand miles

The left-liberal establishment is in crisis at the moment. They can’t make up their mind between desperately trying to prop up Obama, and giving up on him and increasing their distance. Maureen Dowd has given up, judging from her brutal column today, “The Golf Address.” Up at Princeton, Cornel West, always an Obama skeptic (around 2012 he called Obama “Nelson Rockefeller in blackface”), is calling Obama a “counterfeit” Progressive: [T]he thing is he posed as a progressive and turned out to be counterfeit. We ended up with a Wall Street presidency, a drone presidency, a national security presidency. The torturers go
