United Nations - The hostilities in Gaza between Israel and Hamas persist and the diplomatic war at the United Nations continues, also without resolution. While there is no shortage of opinions on the way forward, the most obvious solution is strikingly absent — the need to disarm and isolate Hamas, the radical Palestinian Islamist group. (Snip) It says a great deal that Hamas’s former Arab backers, which historically have included Egypt, Syria and Saudi Arabia, long ago abandoned the terrorist group. Only a few nations still stand by Hamas. Among the most prominent is the tiny Persian Gulf emirate Qatar.

In a a world where Islamic Barbarism and Savagery has reached all time new levels with the beheading of the American journalist James Foley. It was not that long ago that Abu Abbas of the Palestine Liberation Front hijacked the tourist filled Achille Lauro Cruise Ship and murdered in cold blood Leon Klinghoffer and threw him overboard with his wheelchair. To pour salt on an open wound the New York based Metropolitan Opera run by Peter Gelb has outrageously decided to run an Opera with music by John Adams entitled, "The Death of Klinghoffer" despite heavy criticism from the Klinghoffer Family

A jihadist, or to execute a martyrdom operation?"  In the "caliphate" recently proclaimed by jihadists in Syria and Iraq, even young children are indoctrinated, and Sharia law is backed by the gun, according to a gripping documentary offering one of the first glimpses of life in Raqqa, power base of the so-called Islamic State (IS). Part 1 of a five-episode series, The Islamic State, filmed by Anglo-Palestinian journalist Medyan Dairieh was released Thursday by New York-based Vice News. The tone is set early: "Sharia can only be established with weapons," an IS fighter explains

"Tomorrow all I want is peace," Michael Brown Sr. told hundreds of people in St. Louis´ largest city park during brief remarks at a festival that promotes peace over violence. "That´s all I ask." It is remarkable that calls for bipartisanship in Washington generally come from Democrats and Democrat-leaning pundits. The implication always is that Republicans–the “extreme” ones, anyway–are the barrier to cooperation across party lines. But recall 2012–not exactly ancient history–when Harry Reid repeatedly claimed that Mitt Romney had gone for a decade without paying any taxes. And was, therefore, presumably a felon, since no one says that Romney has gone without income. This was not just a lie, but an insane lie. The idea that a person can earn millions of dollars and just choose not to pay taxes on his income–as

Makers of surveillance systems are offering governments across the world the ability to track the movements of almost anybody who carries a cellphone, whether they are blocks away or on another continent. The technology works by exploiting an essential fact of all cellular networks: They must keep detailed, up-to-the-minute records on the locations of their customers to deliver calls and other services to them. Surveillance systems are secretly collecting these records to map people’s travels over days, weeks or longer, according to company marketing documents and experts in surveillance technology. An Englishman on holiday in Spain a century ago found a country with little to recommend it. Waking up on the first morning and consulting his guide book, he would have read the following description: ‘Spain is a bleak and often arid land, with few traces of picturesqueness.’ The towns, the guide continues, are wreathed in tobacco smoke and the cafes are ‘very deficient in comfort and cleanliness’. As Michael Brown is laid to rest on Monday, questions remain about the police shooting that took the life of the unarmed African-American teenager some two weeks ago. Was Brown savagely and unjustifiably gunned down by white police Officer Darren Wilson, as some contend? Did Wilson—who reportedly sustained some kind of facial injury during an altercation with Brown—act appropriately in the heat of a confrontation in which Brown reportedly reached for the officer’s gun. Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. took the unusual step of travelling to Ferguson to coordinate a Justice Department investigation into the shooting, which was already

Hundreds of people gathered in a St Louis park on Sunday for a rally against police violence that is expected to bring together the family of Michael Brown, killed by an officer in Missouri this month, and the parents of Trayvon Martin, a Florida teenager shot dead in 2012. The Peace Fest rally in Forest Park takes place one day before the funeral of Brown. The slaying of the 18-year-old black youth by a white police officer, Darren Wilson, in the St Louis suburb of Ferguson on Aug. 9 led to days of unrest and drew global attention to race relations in the United States. The shooting of Martin by a civilian vigilante reignited the debate

Rep. Paul Ryan said the notion that the House could have unilaterally stopped Obamacare through a government shutdown last year was not a plausible idea to sell the country on. The Wisconsin Republican was addressing a passage from his new book on CBS’s “Face the Nation” in which he described last year’s push toward a government shutdown — in which House conservatives unsuccessfully tried to defund Obamacare — as a “suicide mission.” The purpose of the passage in the book is to try to unify the party, he said, noting that he held back a bit more at the time with party unity in mind. “I don’t think we can succeed if all we do is

ATLANTA- Democratic Party leaders adopted their 2016 presidential nominating calendar on Saturday, setting the stage for a successor to President Barack Obama. The Democratic National Committee, or DNC, approved rules for its 2016 convention along with a primary schedule that will begin with the Iowa caucuses on Feb. 1, 2016, followed by voting later that month in New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina. The 2016 framework is in line with plans pushed by Republicans and gives states incentives to hold their primary contests between March and June, aiming to avoid a front-loaded calendar that encroaches on the Christmas holidays.
