The Israel Air Force struck a 13-story building in Gaza City on Saturday evening that housed an enormous Hamas command center, IDF sources said, adding that only combatants were inside at the time. Gazan health officials said 17 people were wounded in the attack. Reuters cited local residents as saying that the building housed 44 families. Shortly after 8 p.m., rocket-warning sirens went off in cities across the Tel Aviv area, from Rishon Lezion to Bnei Brak and Givatayim. Blasts from Iron Dome interceptions could be heard in the air over Tel Aviv, though the sirens did not sound in the city. There

President Obama was back on the golf course today as he enjoyed yet another 18 holes amid deepening concerns about the spreading terrorist rampage of extremist group ISIS. The President played a round with former NBA basketball star Alonzo Mourning and Cyrus Walker, cousin of White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett, at Farm Neck Golf Club, in Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts on Saturday. His hours on the golf course during a two-week break on the resort island of Martha´s Vineyard have his detractors teeing up as they highlight the slew of foreign policy crises currently facing the U.S.

British jihadis involved in the brutal beheading of American reporter James Foley callously boasted of making personal fortunes from ransoms paid for other released hostages. The gang openly talked of making so much money they could ‘retire to Kuwait or Qatar’, according to testimonies by former hostages obtained by The Mail on Sunday. The four Islamic State militants--nicknamed The Beatles by their Western captives--were reported to be ‘interested in money’ from the start of the kidnap ordeal, even bragging to prisoners about how much they were making. A security source revealed last night that £24 million was paid by at least

British Special Forces hunting the killer of James Foley are using an array of sophisticated equipment to track him down--and possibly free other hostages being held. The Mail on Sunday has been given a detailed account of how elite troops from the SAS and the Special Reconnaissance Regiment (SRR) are conducting high-tech operations inside Syria and Iraq, which could lead to the capture of the extremists within days. It is understood the true identity of Jihadi John has not yet been established and that the precise location where Mr Foley was executed--as seen in a video which shocked the world--remains

Hamas´s Qatar-based leader Khaled Meshaal has objected to Israel Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu´s comparison between the Palestinian Islamist terror group and the Islamic State, or ISIS. Speaking Thursday to visiting US Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA), Netanyahu said Israel was fighting the same war against Islamist terrorism as the US and other countries current working to combat the spread of the brutal Islamic State. "We face the same Islamist network and we have to fight it together," Netanyahu stated. "Hamas is ISIS, ISIS is Hamas."

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — Israel bombed an apartment tower in downtown Gaza City on Saturday, collapsing the 12-story building in an unprecedented strike, while Hamas kept up heavy rocket fire that sent more Israelis fleeing border areas close to Gaza. The violence signaled that a speedy resumption of truce talks is unlikely, despite another appeal by mediator Egypt. Gaps between Israel and Hamas on a border deal for blockaded Gaza remain vast, and repeated rounds of talks have ended in failure. In the Gaza City strike, a huge fireball followed by a black column of smoke rose into the

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., doesn´t know what else she can do to convince you people she´s not running for president. A darling of liberal activists, Warren has said repeatedly she won´t seek the White House in 2016, but her supporters have been undeterred, setting up a Ready for Warren super PAC to raise money and encouraging the senator to mount a bid. On Friday, though, Warren took the unusual step of having an attorney send a letter to the Federal Election Commission disavowing any involvement in the grassroots effort to draft her into the 2016 race.

Americans receiving food stamps were caught selling and bartering their benefits online for art, housing and cash, according to a new federal report that investigates fraud in the nation’s largest nutrition support program. Complicating the situation is the fact states around the country are having trouble tracking and prosecuting the crimes because their enforcement budgets have been slashed despite the rapidly-rising number of food stamp recipients, according to the Government Accountability Office report. Under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, 47 million people have been awarded $76 billion in benefits. State agencies are responsible for addressing SNAP recipient fraud

The United States was said to be considering air strikes aimed at eliminating individual leaders of Islamic State as Turkey came under mounting pressure to stem the flow of jihadists across its border into Syria. As Washington on Saturday debated extending air strikes into Syria, senior British politicians urged Ankara to act to block recruits from the UK and other countries from entering Syria via Turkey, en route to joining Islamic State (formerly Isis). This weekend large numbers of Isis jihadists were trying to secure greater control of the border area, pushing northwards in armoured trucks looted from abandoned Iraqi military bases.

Just when you think things can’t get any worse for kindergartners, they do. It used to be that kindergartners could play — which is how early childhood development experts say young children learn and are socialized best. Today 5- and 6-year-olds are forced to sit for hours at a time doing academics, often with little or no recess, and in some places, no time for a snack. Homework goes home every day with many kindergartners. The administration’s abrupt transition from complacency to near panic on the rise of ISIS recalls Donald Rumsfeld’s famous dictum. But before the dictum, first the panic. (Snip) President Obama’s earlier dismissal of ISIS in January falls into a much more serious category. In an interview with David Remnick of the New Yorker, he boasted that there were now no significant threats worth considering. Al Qaeda had been ‘decimated’ . When Remnick challenged that claim, pointing out that the Black Flag was flying over Fallujah, the president famously waved it off. He characterized ISIS as a “jayvee” or junior varsity team,

In times of evil, prophets who see it in what Ronald Knox called a “clear light” are not necessarily heeded, though they are desperately needed. Such a man was Hilaire Belloc, as Monsignor Knox described him at Belloc’s funeral Mass in 1953. “By derivation,” Knox explained, a prophet “is one who speaks out.” Belloc, the first truly revisionist historian, made it his life’s work to speak out. He warned of the rise of Islam throughout the early years of the 20th century and then between the two world wars, when such prophecy seemed absurd. In 2006 another great prophet, Pope Benedict

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon (D) described himself “thunderstruck” by the police response to protests, rioting and looting of businesses in the town of Ferguson. It’s either a lightning strike to his brain, or fear for his political future driving Nixon’s bungled leadership and his presumptuous and premature call for prosecution of a police officer. Nixon plopped his political posterior on the scale of justice by calling for prosecution of Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson hours before a grand jury began hearing any evidence in the case of Michael Brown, an 18-year-old black man shot and killed by Wilson on August
