Obliterate the Islamic State now

President Barack Obama is now reaping the whirlwind for his feckless and sometimes politically motivated strategy of leading from behind in the Mideast, North Africa and Eastern Europe. The good news is that his decision to use U.S. air power to protect the Yazidi people from death and torture by Islamic State fanatics has allowed Kurdish and Iraqi soldiers to recapture the critical Mosul Dam and sent the Islamist terrorists reeling backward. Yet the president in a recent press conference reiterated his vow that air strikes are part of a “limited action” and that no U.S. combat troops will be

After Thursday´s network evening newscasts ignored a report from the Government Accountability Office that the exchange of five terrorists from Guantanamo Bay for Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl was illegal, NBC´s Today and ABC´s Good Morning America remained silent on the Obama administration scandal on Friday. Only CBS This Morning made any mention of the violation of federal law, providing a mere 24-second news brief on the topic. [Listen to the audio] Meanwhile, both Today and GMA did find time to produce full reports on a contestant on VH1´s Dating Naked reality show suing the cable network for showing her naked

After the killing of unarmed black teen Michael Brown by a white police officer in Ferguson, Mo., Bob McCulloch, the county’s top prosecutor for more than two decades, is getting pressured to step down from the case, including a petition that has more than 70,000 signatures. Several days ago, Sen. Jamilah Nasheed wrote to McCulloch, “If you should decide not to indict this police officer, the rioting we witnessed this past week will seem like a picnic compared to the havoc that will likely occur.” Nasheed spoke with Megyn tonight on "The Kelly File" and said her letter was "the sentiment of

If President Obama’s comments on race in the anguished aftermath of the not-guilty verdict in George Zimmerman’s trial gleamed in light, his words on the rage that has thumped Ferguson, Mo., were shrouded in darkness. They revealed a gifted leader whose palpable discomfort with race has made him a sometimes unreliable and distant narrator of black life. When Obama gave his fullest statement yet on the cataclysm in Ferguson, he was cautious to a fault. The president understandably didn’t want to fan the violence. He had also learned his lesson after he lamented the stupidity of the police officer who arrested

Maybe they could really improve the subways now. New York State will realize a larger-than-previously-expected cash windfall of more than $5 billion this year — as the parade of settlements and fines squeezed from banks by regulators continues to grow. The total includes the $4.4 billion in bank settlements already signed, plus the more than $600 million in cash coming to the state from the mammoth mortgage-related settlement with Bank of America that could be signed as soon as Thursday. The Wall Street settlements and fines are 18 times the $275 million accounted for in the budget and

HOUSTON, Texas -- A new letter from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) admits that illegal aliens were being allowed to board planes using Notice to Appear forms they received after entering the U.S. illegally. The revelation directly contradicts a TSA statement last month denying such allegations to various media outlets, including Breitbart News. In July Breitbart Texas Managing Director Brandon Darby broke the news that the TSA was letting illegal aliens board planes using Notice to Appear forms; subsequently, a TSA spokesperson publicly attacked Darby on Twitter, insisting that his report was "completely wrong." The newly-surfaced TSA letter was penned on

Hackensack and Paterson assaults are

After a man in his 60s was beaten by a group of teenagers in Paterson on Wednesday night, a city councilman said it looked like an example of a supposedly trending national game called “knockout.” Fears that the game, blamed for at least one death in New Jersey, had taken root locally were fanned earlier in the week when a lone assailant randomly punched three people in separate incidents in Hackensack. On Thursday, authorities said neither case appeared to fit the criteria to be called the knockout game, which they said typically involves a group of people approaching a victim

Rev. Al Sharpton sees himself as having surpassed Jesse Jackson as the face of modern civil rights battles and he’s not afraid to say so. “I think he’s (Jackson) now realized that he’s older now,” Sharpton says in a new Politico profile. “And he realizes that I’ve come into my own and he’s got to deal with it.” The profile looks at how Sharpton, an MSNBC host, transformed himself from local race agitator to a top player in politics and close adviser to the Obama White House. It homes in on Sharpton’s role in Ferguson, MO, the city rocked by the police

A Super PAC helping U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell has jumped into the fray over Alison Lundergan Grimes tour bus, sending a letter to Signature Special Events Services asking to rent the vehicle for what it suggests is a bargain basement price being offered to the campaign. The company is owned by Jerry Lundergan, Grimes´ father, and the relationship has come under fire in recent days with the McConnell campaign suggesting that Grimes has violated federal election law by accepting the bus from her father´s corporation at what it says is a discounted rate. Wearing a tight sweater yesterday, the young Ms. Harf took to the podium of the State Department press briefing room and refused to acknowledge that the United States is at war with ISIS. No matter what ISIS may say about being at war with us, if we stick our heads in the ground and refuse to ackbnowledge it, then I guess we won’t be at war, in Ms. Harf’s view. GENEVA - At least 191,369 people have been killed in Syria´s conflict through April, more than double the figure documented a year ago and probably still an under-estimate, the United Nations human rights office said on Friday. The U.N. report, based on data from four groups and the government that were cross-checked, reflects a reality of killing and torture while the civil war has "dropped off the international radar", U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay said. "With additional killings reported from earlier periods, in addition to the new killings that have taken place, the total is more than double the

Politico´s Glenn Thrush reports in this week´s edition of the magazine that Al Sharpton has become President Barack Obama´s "go-to man on race" in Ferguson and elsewhere. Thrush tells the story as one of Sharpton´s own reform and revival, dwelling on his weight loss, his self-professed caution with words, and criticism (envy?) from his old allies on the left. Yet he leaves out a few crucial details that are important to the Sharpton story. For one, Thrush makes no mention of Sharpton´s role in the Trayvon Martin fiasco. As Breitbart News reported at the time, Sharpton played a tripartite role.

FERGUSON, Mo. - "Tonight was a very good night in Ferguson." Those were the opening remarks made by Captain Ron Johnson of the Missouri State Highway Patrol at a media briefing Thursday morning, describing a calmer mood among protestors and law enforcement. The crowds have lessened in recent days, Johnson said, and authorities did not notice any agitators among the protestors as they had in previous nights. When asked if Wednesday night´s heavy rains helped keep more people away, Johnson said authorities noticed calmer crowds prior to the weather moving in.

General John Allen, who is retired from the military, says that the Islamic State (known as ISIS, ISIL, or IS) must be destroyed now. "The brutal murder of the brave American journalist James Foley is meant to directly terrorize the world’s media, the international community, and the United States. If all the actions of the Islamic State, or IS, to date weren’t sufficiently reprehensible, this act and the potential for other similar acts will snap American attention with laser-like focus onto the real danger IS poses to the existence of Iraq

Most of us, even many Democrats these days, are beginning to acknowledge the complete foreign policy failure of our president (for an overview see Bret Stephens’ The Meltdown in Commentary), but we still have to deal with over two years of Obama and we have a serious problem that needs to be handled immediately. We could die. Not all of us but a lot of us. And our society as we know it could be destroyed. Sound apocalyptic and a little overwrought? Well, it is apocalyptic, but not so overwrought. WASHINGTON – America´s top-ranked military officer says the surging Islamic State group has an "apocalyptic, end-of-days strategic vision" in the Middle East and cannot be defeated unless the United States and a coalition of partners confront it head-on in Syria. "They can be contained, not in perpetuity," Army Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told a news conference. The United States so far has restricted a series of airstrikes to Iraq, but concerns have increased as the Islamic militant group has extended its reach from safe havens in civil-war-ravaged Syria across the Iraqi border. The thing to remember about the cataract of woe that has befallen our country is how fast things can be turned around. We may be in retreat overseas, with riots simmering in Missouri and the economy stuck in second gear. With the right policies, the right leadership, all that can be overcome. It can be turned around, and fast — a fact we’re not hearing pointedly enough for my taste. I like Rick Perry, Rand Paul, Paul Ryan, Ted Cruz, Mitt Romney, Marco Rubio. But none of the GOP contenders is capturing this simple point — that we can pull out of this

Scott Brown is back in the ballgame. The former Massachusetts senator had appeared to be fading in his bid to defeat incumbent Democratic Sen. In the WMUR/UNH survey released Thursday night, Shaheen led Brown by 46 percent to 44 percent, which is within the poll’s margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points. This latest numbers show a dramatic swing in Brown’s direction from the previous WMUR/UNH poll, which was conducted a month-and-a-half earlier and showed Shaheen leading Brown by

Rest assured that the riots, the violence, the looting, and the destruction of private property that has taken place in Ferguson, Missouri in the wake of Michael Brown’s death has all been for the greater good. The attention all of this brings will, according to Missouri Highway Patrol Captain Ron Johnson, “make it better for our sons to be better black men.” Pardon me for asking the question, but should we be teaching our children to become better white men, brown men, or black men rather than simply becoming better men and better American citizens?
