Former House majority leader Tom DeLay on Monday sharply criticized the local prosecutor´s office that indicted both him and more recently fellow Texas Republican Gov. Rick Perry, calling it a “vendetta” and another example of the “criminalization of politics.” In an interview with FoxNews.com, DeLay attacked nearly every aspect of the prosecution’s case against Perry -- suggesting it was political retribution for the governor´s attempt to remove a county district attorney with a criminal record and a “conspiracy” likely traceable to Washington Democrats. “There is no doubt [the case] is politically motivated,” the former House majority leader said. “Once again,

Celebrity attendees at Saturday night’s event included Robert DeNiro, Jack Nicholson, Paul McCartney, Barbara Streisand and Roger Waters. Christie, who attended the event as a guest of fellow New Jersey native Jon Bon Jovi was summoned on stage when Jamie Foxx reportedly shouted to the audience “I know you’ve got a dance

A bin bag of cats´ heads has been found on a street in "an extreme example of animal cruelty". A council cleaner in Manchester was called to the "sickening" incident in an alley just off Wilmslow Road, a spokesman for Manchester city council said. He added that the area was known as "Curry Mile" as there are lots of Indian restaurants, but said the council is not connecting the incident with any local business. The spokesman said the incident could have been "maliciously" or "racially motivated". There are believed to have been four or five heads in the bin bag. On its Facebook page,

Power plant regs spur new union

The Obama administration is facing another union rebellion over its environmental policies, this time over the EPA’s proposed rules for limiting power plant emissions. Labor unions for years have hounded the Obama White House over allegations that officials are dragging their feet in making a final decision on the Canada-to-Texas Keystone XL oil pipeline. But labor organizations are now piping up regarding an Environmental Protection Agency proposal to cut carbon-dioxide emissions by 30 percent by 2030. The rules are intended to curb global warming. Last week, Edwin Hill, president of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), penned an op-ed

The Associated Press Stylebook states that in reports referring to a person’s age, the figure for the age number should be used. It also states that reports should “use man or woman for individuals 18 and older.”Why, then, are AP reports on the shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown solely referring to him as a “teen” and “teenager”? “Don’t know’ if Missouri teen shot with hands up,” reads one AP headline from Monday. “County autopsy: Unarmed teen shot 6 to 8 times,” reads another. Kentucky bourbon makers are making a big bet by stashing away their largest stockpiles in more than a generation. To put it in bartenders´ lingo: Distillers are putting up the tab for millions of rounds of bourbon years before they are even ordered. The production poses an inherent risk, but hitting the moment right - a big supply meshing with big demand - could mean a serious payday for companies big and small. Missing the target would leave bourbon makers awash with supply and leave future production in question, particularly for craft distilleries

Patients are being struck off by NHS dentists for failing to attend just one check-up, an investigation has found. Others are having to travel to surgeries 40 miles away because those nearby are refusing to take-on new patients. Some NHS dental practices have waiting lists of two years which is leading to many patients giving up and paying hundreds for private treatment. Research by Healthwatch England, which campaigns for patients’ rights, found that only 1 in 5 surgeries are taking on new patients. When I heard that Texas Governor Rick Perry had been indicted, I thought, “This had better be good, or it will backfire on the Democrats.” It turns out it isn’t good and it may well backfire on the Democrats. A Travis County grand jury has indicted the Texas governor and former and possible future candidate for the Republican presidential nomination for allegedly abusing his power, by threatening to cut off funding for the public integrity unit in the office of a Democratic County District Attorney, Rosemary Lehmberg, following her drunk driving arrest. The two charges against Perry are serious enough in their

AN INDICTMENT is a bit of a buzz-kill. On Friday, Rick Perry joined Chris Christie and Bob McDonnell in the brotherhood of highly ranked Republicans who can personally testify to this, among other things. In Mr Perry’s case, the charges are coercion and abuse of official capacity. Those are serious criminal matters; if convicted of the latter, a felony, he could face up to 99 years in prison. At first the indictments seemed like a real blow. Mr Perry is planning to step down as governor of Texas next year, after 14 years on the job. He is widely thought to

Every sentient human being whose brain isn’t stuffed with ideological fairy dust can see that Obama is behind every major scandal of his administration from Benghazi to the I.R.S. disgrace. How can one know this? Because the culprits haven’t been fired. Moreover, if they are serial liars like Susan Rice, they’ve actually been promoted to posts where their loyalty to the criminal-in-chief can do America and its citizens even more damage, if that is

"I hope some judge throws it out right away. "It´s not just kind of funny and ridiculous. But it´s an infringement on individual liberty. He´s got a first amendment right -- just because he´s the governor of Texas. And I think, like I said, it´s easy to joke about this, but this is a serious thing. It is ridiculous that he was indicted for this," Halperin said.
