Nick Di Iorio, 28, Republican candidate for the 12th Congressional District in New York, experienced personally the precarious security situation in Israel on his visit to the Holy Land last week. A car driving Di Iorio from a visit to Sderot toward Jerusalem came under attack by a group of Arab boys “who hurled rocks at us and laughed,” Di Iorio recalled. Also in the car with Di Iorio was New York based philanthropist Ken Abramowitz, Chairman of American Friends of Likud, who accompanied him on his visit to Israel. No one was hurt in the attack, which took place not far

The head of a Bay State minority police officers’ group said yesterday it’s time for Boston cops to diversify their “front-line” supervisors to create more trust in Hub neighborhoods — pointing to the St. Louis suburb roiled by the shooting of a black teenager where tensions eased after a black state trooper from the town was put in charge. “As you can see what happened in Ferguson (Mo.) when they put a (black) captain in there who was a little bit more familiar with the community — it had an impact,” said Larry Ellison, president of the Massachusetts Association of

True to its usual ritual of condemning Israel and establishing an international commission of inquiry against it, the UN Council for Human Rights is directly responsible for the systematic killing of scores of Palestinians in Gaza. The bitter Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been going on for over 60 years and is rife with blood and emotion. Traditionally, the world, including Israel, has thought of the conflict as about territory, as a clash between cultures or a historical struggle. President Barack Obama is no friend of press freedom, says a New York Times reporter who may be sent to jail for refusing to reveal a source. “A lot of people still think this is some kind of game or signal or spin,” reporter James Risen told his own paper in a profile about his plight published Saturday. “They don’t want to believe that Obama wants to crack down on the press and whistle-blowers. But he does. He’s the greatest enemy to press freedom in a generation.” Risen’s troubles stem from the 2006 publication of his book “State of War,” which included classified information about a failed CIA plot against Iran’s nuclear program.

The controversial Sultan of Brunei is the leading bidder to buy New York´s Plaza Hotel and London´s Grosvenor House, angering gay rights activists who say he is a homophobe whose policies call for the stoning death of homosexuals. The $2.2 billion sale, which is still being negotiated, would also include downtown Manhattan´s Dream Hotel. Selling the luxury hotels is Indian tycoon Subrata Roy, who remains jailed in India and is hoping to use the proceeds from the deal to cover his $1.6 billion bond, the Times of London reported. Big oil and gas is starting to really like U.S. Sen. Tim Scott. The junior Republican from South Carolina is listed as the No. 4 recipient in campaign donations this election season that businesses tied to the oil and gas industry gave to the members of Congress´ upper chamber. Scott, a senator for less than two years, has collected $226,401 for the 2014 election cycle from groups with oil and gas ties, according to an analysis by the government watchdog OpenSecrets.org/Center for Responsive Politics. On Thursday, I started a column about the problems of the political right, but there are too many to cover in one column, so here we are again. Again, this qualifier: I recognize there are major differences between the various factions of the political right – social conservatives, fiscal conservatives, national security conservatives, Tea Partiers, etc. – and all bleed into each other to varying degrees. Each has its problems and strengths. But for purposes of brevity I will just refer to them all nebulously as “Republicans.” It may irritate some, but tough. This is about politics, not pandering. Sometime today the 53-year-old playboy president of the United States will be heading back to D.C. for a mission which the mainstream media describes as “mysterious”. No one seem to know why he’s temporarily back in town for two days mid-holiday, and Barack Hussein Obama isn’t saying. In the face of the open fact that transparency is a broken Obama administration promise, today should go down as ‘Skulk Sunday’. Even as surrealistic as the BHO administration is, why should any president be making a return in stealth to Washington in the middle of another one of his too many lavish holidays?

Theodore Roosevelt National Park, ND - From the vista where Valerie Naylor stands, the scenery is undeniably spectacular: Sculpted hills with layers of beige sandstone and ribbons of gray coal, pockets of cottonwood trees and junipers rustling, the serpentine Little Missouri River shimmering below. Most visitors who come to the Oxbow Overlook feel its serenity. But Naylor, the park’s superintendent, worries. “So much of what you’re looking at is outside the park, and it’s so vulnerable,” she said. How will she protect it all? As North Dakota’s historic Bakken oil boom mushrooms around this little-known national park, Naylor, 56, is on a

WASHINGTON — JIM RISEN is gruff. The tall slab of a reporter looks like someone who could have played an Irish Marine sergeant in an old World War II movie. “Editors think I’m a curmudgeon,” the 59-year-old admits, laughing. Eric Lichtblau, the reporter who sits next to Risen in The Times’s Washington bureau and who won a Pulitzer with him for their remarkable stories about the Bush administration’s illegal warrantless wiretapping, says Risen revels in his prickly, old-school style, acting contrary on everything from newfangled computers to the Bush crew’s fictions about Saddam and W.M.D. to cautious editors.

AUSTIN, Texas — In a brief press conference at the Capitol this afternoon, Texas Governor Rick Perry responded to the indictment issued against him by a Travis County grand jury Friday. The governor was confident and optimistic, but also revealed irritation and frustration at what he characterized as politically motivated attacks on him and his office. Perry delivered a prepared statement and then answered a few questions from the press. As previously reported by Breitbart Texas, the indictment alleges that Perry abused his power as governor when he threatened to veto funding for the Public Integrity Unit, an anti-corruption division

Conservative readers question me on a regular basis about why the Daily Inter Lake publishes the somewhat confrontational column by liberal Gene Lyons every week. The straightforward answer is because liberals exist and therefore they need a column to read. Far be it from me to shut down the free exchange of ideas.(SNIP)What brings me out of the closet as a Lyons reader, however, is last Thursday’s column in which he bravely but foolishly defended the bedraggled climate scientist Michael Mann from the ripostes of Mark Steyn, perhaps the most capably armed social critic since Edmund Wilson.According to Lyons, Steyn

Ferguson, Mo. - A small group of protesters, with outside agitators among them, defied a curfew here Saturday night, clashing with police a week after the shooting death of the unarmed Michael Brown at the hands of a Ferguson police officer. Seven people were arrested and one person was shot and critically wounded by an unknown gunman. Members of the Revolution Club of Chicago helped to gin up support for resistance to the curfew, imposed by Gov. Jay Nixon earlier in the day and set to begin at midnight. Shortly after 12 a.m. members of the group and residents advanced toward police, who for the first time since the

A British Army colonel´s life was saved by a US soldier who jumped in front of an assassin´s hail of bullets, it has been reported. The US Army reservist, who normally works for Apple, the Silicon Valley-based electronics company, was shot six times as an Afghan assailant opened fire on a group of high-ranking officers at a military training academy earlier this month, The Sunday Times said. The reservist, who has not been named, used his body as a shield to literally "take a bullet" for the senior British officer, and was hit twice in the leg and once in the shoulder, with a further three rounds stopped by his bulletproof vest.

Obama recently told a New York Times interviewer, “Because Israel is so capable militarily, I don’t worry about Israel’s survival.” That’s shocking, considering Iran’s threat to wipe Israel off the map once it gets nukes. One of the fascinating layers of the Ferguson riot story is how this tragedy has exposed what is a rapidly changing attitudinal climate towards law enforcement officers (LEOs). What was for years a stable predicate -- conservatives being reflexively ‘law and order’ and inherently giving cops the benefit of the doubt -- while liberals with the built in ACLU type disdain for cops tending to always assume the worst of those in power – is now a vortex of confusion, cross currents, and contradictions. It’s not a total flip-flop of the convention, but it’s moving in that direction. After all, we’ve seen

A new report released by New Jersey authorities shows that taxpayers are being socked with a $6.5 million legal bill in part for Gov. Chris Christie´s (R) defense over allegations of political corruption in what came to be known as the "Bridgegate" probe.
