Reports Saturday indicate that Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) forces in Iraq have killed 700 members of a tribe in eastern Syria over the last two weeks, and killed hundreds of the Yazidi ethnic minority on Friday and Saturday in massacres in northern Iraq. The terror group fell upon the Iraqi village of Kocho on Friday, after local Yazidi´s refused their ultimatum to convert to Islam or be murdered, according to reports by local Yazidis and Kurds. [Snip] The violence continued on Saturday, as another 312 Yazidis were slaughtered in northern Iraq, apparently in the same village.

The West is embroiled in a generational struggle against a poisonous brand of Islamic extremism that will bring terror to the streets of Britain unless urgent action is taken to defeat it, David Cameron warns today. [Snip] Warning that Islamic State fighters already control thousands of square miles of territory, Mr Cameron says that if these “warped and barbaric” extremists are not dealt with now, they will create a “terrorist state” on the shores of the Mediterranean. He warns that Britain will have to use its “military prowess” to help defeat “this exceptionally dangerous” movement, or else terrorists with “murderous

One afternoon in October 2009, a former banking executive named Aaron Siegel waited impatiently in the master bedroom of a house in Buffalo that served as his office. (Snip) On average, they paid just 4.5 cents on the dollar. These debt buyers collect what they can and then sell the remaining accounts to other buyers, and so on. Those who trade in such debt call it “paper.” That was Aaron Siegel’s business. It turned out to be a good one. Siegel quickly discovered that when he bought the right kind of paper, the profits were astronomical. He obtained one portfolio for $28,527, collected more than $90,000 on it in just six weeks and

Austin - Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Saturday that the indictment against him was an “outrageous” abuse of power and vowed to fight it. “This indictment amounts to nothing more than abuse of power and I cannot and will not allow that to happen,” Perry said at a news conference on Saturday. Perry spoke a day after a grand jury indicted the Republican on two felony counts of abuse of power for making good on a veto threat. He dismissed the prosecution as a “farce.” A special prosecutor spent months calling witnesses and presenting evidence that Perry broke the law when he promised publicly to veto $7.5 million over two

Texas GOP Gov. Rick Perry responded Saturday to the weekend indictment in which he is accused of abusing his power of office, calling it a political “farce” and vowing to explore “every legal avenue” to combat the prosecution. Perry, a 2012 GOP presidential candidate with potential 2016 aspirations, was indicted Friday for allegedly abusing his power by vowing to veto $7.5 million in state funds for agency run by Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg, after she pleaded guilty to drunken driving in April 2013 and refused to resign. Perry vetoed the money after Lehmberg, a Democrat, videotaped acting erratically

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has been indicted for violating Texas Penal Code § 36.03, which provides: A person commits an offense if by means of coercion he … influences or attempts to influence a public servant in a specific exercise of his official power or a specific performance of his official duty or influences or attempts to influence a public servant to violate the public servant’s known legal duty …. (Gov. Perry was also indicted under another statute, which I won’t discuss in this post.) Texas Penal Code § 1.07 in turn defines “coercion” to mean, a threat, however communicated: (A) to commit an

Austin, Texas - A grand jury indicted Governor Rick Perry Friday for his attempts to remove Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg from office after she was arrested for driving while intoxicated last year in a case that made national headlines. In April 2013, Lehmberg was arrested after a witness called 911, describing her as driving erratically, swerving back and forth into the bike lane, and into oncoming traffic. Officers at the scene reportedly found an open bottle of vodka in her car, and a blood sample obtained later that evening purportedly showed a blood alcohol level of 0.239—almost three times the legal limit—

Hamas has sounded a belligerent tone as negotiations for a long-term truce continue in Cairo. In a message posted on his Facebook page, Hamas´s "foreign affairs" chief Osama Hamdan said the Islamist terror group rejects the current Egyptian proposal, and pledged a "long war" of attrition against Israel. "Israel must accept the demands of the Palestinian people or face a long war," he said. Other Hamas officials issued similar statements over the course of Saturday. Hamdan´s Facebook message was posted not long before a message on the Twitter account of the "military wing" of Hamas, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, in which the group vowed

How many Secret Service agents and security detail members does it take to accompany Vice President Joe Biden out for lunch in the Hamptons? Answer: around 20. Biden, wife Jill and their daughter Ashley dined at 75 Main in Southampton Friday, sitting in a very public spot outside on the sidewalk cafe while a crowd gathered. A spy said Biden, who looked dapper in pressed cream shorts and a blue polo shirt, and his family dined on lobster rolls and salad, while “there were around 20 people from his security detail posted around the restaurant.” Despite that, Biden was happy to shake hands and pose for pictures with the throng waiting on

One day earlier this week, the actor Jeff Bridges found himself sprinting through New York´s Central Park with his wife, Susan. The two had been taking a walk when they stopped to watch an acrobatic group. Without recognizing the actor, the performers grabbed his wife and pulled her into the ring for their next feat. Instead of standing by, Mr. Bridges yelled, "I´m a crazy white man, and I have an appointment, and I´m taking my girl with me!" Then he and his wife made a run for it. President Obama is vacationing again in Marta Vineyard - playground of the 1% of the 1%. We have been assured that he is just as in charge there as he is in Washington, which is not very reassuring. He purportedly brought his brain trust with him for advice. Print, video and photo-journalists were all repeatedly and aggressively threatened and harassed when attempting to photograph or videotape any of the looting or property destruction. Many of the demonstrators expressed concern about being identified by police or told reporters that the looting was none of their concern. Police largely remained on the sidelines on Friday and into the dawn hours of Saturday morning as demonstrators descended on a number of businesses in Ferguson — pulling alcohol, lottery tickets, and
