WILMINGTON, Del. -- Former Vice President Al Gore is suing Al Jazeera, saying it´s withholding money promised from sale of Current TV. Al Jazeera purchased Current TV, its broadcast contracts and subcribers in January 2013 for over $500 million. The acquisition of Current TV, co-founded by Gore in 2005, allowed Al Jazeera to air Al Jazeera America in 43 million homes across the U.S. Since its launch, the cable news network has drawn praise for its ability to break stories objectively and its willingness to cover issues while willfully ignoring the spin of talking points and sound-bites. But Gore´s Attorney

Not even the U.S. Secretary of State is immune to flight delays. John Kerry found that out on Thursday, forced to fly United Airlines from Honolulu to Washington after his Air Force Boeing 757 suffered mechanical problems, The Washington Post reports. Kerry had been in Hawaii as part of a week´s worth of travels. But when his usual 757 went out of service, Kerry had to do what travelers everywhere must do: scramble to find another option. For the Secretary, that meant a commercial United Airlines flight "hours later," according to the Post. But Kerry seemed to take it in stride, according to the Post's account.

Bibles began disappearing from Navy lodges over the summer after complaints were made by an atheist group, but that decision has now been reversed while a policy review takes place. The Freedom from Religion Foundation complained about the religious books earlier in the year, which prompted the Navy Exchange to have managers put Gideons Bibles in lost-and-found locations. “That decision and our religious accommodation policies with regard to the placement of religious materials are under review,” Navy spokesman Cmdr. Ryan Perry wrote in an email to Stars and Stripes, the paper reported Friday. “While that review is under

Why Is Harvey Weinstein Backing Pro-Life,

The Giver offers a pro-life message as well as a warning of what nanny state policies could lead. So why is Harvey Weinstein, one of Hollywood’s most prominent liberals, teaming up with Walden Media to bring Lois Lowry´s story to movie houses? The Giver producer Chip Flaherty says Lowry’s tale represents a cultural moment when both the left and the right can join together. The film’s dystopian future may pack conservative messages, but it also pays tribute to passion, creativity and the messy business of personal freedom. Flaherty recalls how Weinstein, out promoting the film earlier this week, told talk radio star Laura

State and local police departments obtain some of their military-style equipment through a free Defense Department program created in the early 1990s. While the portion of their gear coming from the program is relatively small (most of it is paid for through department budgets and federal grants), detailed data from the Pentagon illustrates how ubiquitous such equipment has become. Highlighted counties have received guns, grenade launchers, vehicles, night vision or body armor through the program since 2006.

Top Senate Democrats who once egged on President Barack Obama to go big on executive amnesty are now punting on the issue after numerous polls have shown that illegal immigration could cost Democrats control of the Senate. Politico asked the offices of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and Michael Bennet (D-CO), the chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign, about Obama´s potential executive amnesty for millions more illegal immigrants. They all either refused to answer or said the ball was in Obama´s court. Durbin and Schumer were in the "Gang of

On Thursday, NBC News sources confirmed that Chuck Todd will bump David Gregory from the Meet the Press host chair. And while Todd isn’t as liberal as his predecessor, he has played defense for the Barack Obama administration on a number of fronts. Most recently he dismissed the IRS-Tea Party scandal by asking “are there any actual real victims?” and diminished Benghazi hearings as “partisan.” The NBC News chief White House correspondent also claimed Benghazi figure Susan Rice was simply a “victim” of conservative media but in the past compared Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin to a “car-wreck.” (videos after

But since Secretary of State John Kerry declared last year that the Monroe Doctrine was dead, Vladimir Putin of Russia has traveled to Brazil, Argentina, Nicaragua and Cuba. Al-Qaida told the family of a US hostage kidnapped three years ago in Pakistan to press their government to exchange him for prisoners held by the United States, in a message posted on the Internet on Friday. Warren Weinstein, who was kidnapped in 2011 in Lahore where he worked for a US consulting company, was last seen in a video recording released in December. Mark Steyn has published his latest brief in his protracted court case with discredited climate scientist Michael Mann (who is suing him for libel) and it´s a corker. Here´s a sample: The audacity of the falsehoods in Mann's court pleadings is breathtaking. For example, on page 19 of his brief below dated January 18, 2013, he cites the international panel chaired by the eminent scientist Lord Oxburgh, FRS as one of the bodies that "exonerated" him, whereas on page 235 of Mann's own book, The Hockey Stick and the Climate Wars, he states explicitly that "our own work did not fall within the remit of the committee and the hockey stick

And earlier this week, Kanye was backstage as the legendary crooner played a show in LA at the Dodgers Stadium. A

A wind farm requires 700 times more land to produce the same amount of energy as a fracking site, according to analysis by the energy department’s recently-departed chief scientific advisor. Prof David MacKay, who stood down from the Government role at the end of July, published analysis putting shale gas extraction “in perspective”, showing it was far less intrusive on the landscape than wind or solar energy. His intervention was welcomed by fracking groups, who are battling to win public support amid claims from green groups and other critics that shale gas extraction will require the “industrialisation” of the countryside.

While the two shooting events are separated by two and a half years, Trayvon (Feb 2012) Mike Brown (Aug 2014) the similarities are quite remarkable. One of the key aspects that aligns both narratives is the appearance of the attorney for both families Benjamin Crump. The second key aspect is the way the media portray both events. Here’s some of the similarities: • The age of both was originally misreported. Trayvon was 13, then 15, then 16 and eventually 17. Mike Brown was 17 in most original reports, and then eventually 18. • Both Mike Brown and Trayvon Martin were

Remember back when Democrat Charlie Crist was a Republican running for governor in 2006? He called himself a "Jeb Bush Republican" at the time. There´s a reason for it. Bush helped build the GOP, first in Miami-Dade and then in Florida where he was the first Republican governor in the modern era to serve with a Republican-held House and Senate. Also, unlike Crist and Scott, Bush is an off-the-cuff quote-machine who likes to joust with reporters about policy and politics. The other two guys (Scott more so) are and/or were nothing like Bush as governor. Expect a good dose of Crist-bashing from

It had been 401 years since Balboa had first crossed the Isthmus in 1513 and “stared at the Pacific ... Silent, upon a peak in Darien.” For most of that time, a water route across Panama

From culturally sensitive music to special meals for the lactose intolerant, the organizations the federal government is paying to house and care for the children who have surged across the border illegally are taking pains to make sure they are as comfortable as possible. Dietitians scrutinize the menus each day to make sure they include enough whole grains but not whole milk. Counselors offer life skills classes in Spanish, and intensive English language training, including use of the Rosetta Stone program. Doctors and dentists treat the children at taxpayers’ expense — often the first medical care of the children’s lives. The
