Georgia Democratic Senate candidate Michelle Nunn partnered with D.C. lobbyists in a multi-million dollar land deal in 2004, according to America Rising. The deal was revealed by the Atlanta Journal Constitution, which reported on a leaked memo of vulnerabilities from Nunn’s campaign. Nunn has been decrying lobbyists and their influence on the campaign trail despite securing a multi-million dollar deal and taking $120,000 from lobbyists this cycle. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution: In 2004, Nunn, her father, four-term Democratic U.S. Sen. Sam Nunn, local builder Michael Wilson and two Washington lobbyists who used to work for Sam Nunn -

Remember how Senator Obama used to blame George W. Bush for rising Anti-Americanism in Europe? Remember Obama hectoring Bush for lecturing rather than listening and for acting unilaterally without compunction? Remember Obama promising to heal the breach between the United States and our European allies by acting “in partnership” and showing “humility?” That promise has vanished into the same ether as the president’s assurances that Americans could keep their healthcare plans if they wanted it. Five years of the Obama administration should make European statesmen yearn for President George W. Bush. Liberal New York Times op-ed columnist Roger Cohen labels the current

I understand the frame of reference. Eisenhower sent in the 101st Airborne to desegregate Central High; the Marines were sent in during the L.A. riots after the Rodney King verdict to keep the peace. This idea of using troops to maintain order when racial tensions blow sky high somewhere in America isn’t out of the blue, especially for someone who participated in the civil rights movement. But this is a singularly terrible idea on a day when elements of the left and right have coalesced to criticize — ta da — the militarization of the police. The solution to cops

David Cameron is prepared to supply weapons directly to Kurdish forces fighting jihadists from the Islamic State (Isis) in northern Iraq, in a move that risks drawing Britain back indirectly into the country´s conflict. In a significant intensification of British involvement in the Iraq crisis, the foreign secretary, Philip Hammond, will tell his EU counterparts in Brussels on Friday that Britain is prepared to join France in arming the Kurds. David Cameron and Nick Clegg agreed the plan at an emergency Cobra meeting. The move was immediately welcomed by the chancellor of the Kurdish Region Security Council, who had pleaded with

Dear Jon Voight: A letter about Gaza
Al Jazeera [Doha, Qatar], by Gil Hochberg & Mark LeVine    Original Article

As the carnage in Gaza reached a crescendo in the beginning of August, Jon Voight, one of Hollywood´s most vocal conservatives, penned a harsh attack on fellow actors Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz in response to a letter they signed condemning the latest Israeli bombing of Gaza in which he accused them of "inciting anti-Semitism all over the world". Many activists dismiss Voight´s letter as the rantings of an unthinking actor who long ago lost touch with political reality - a poor relation of conservative icon Charlton Heston. But Voight´s vitriol, and the narratives behind them, have for decades been quite effective in silencing criticism of Israel

Today Salvatore Marzullo, the father of Vanessa, spoke of his ´sickening´ fear for his daughter´s safety, as Italy´s deputy foreign minister said the country is working ´belly to the ground´ to find them. The group that has kidnapped Miss Ramelli and Miss Marzullo have not yet been formally identified, but Jordanian newspaper Assabeel was quoted as saying

Detroit— A local Muslim-American group Thursday announced it has filed a federal lawsuit based on complaints the government has unjustly put a disproportionate number of Muslim-Americans on the nation’s “terror watch” list. Dawud Walid, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations Michigan Chapter, says the lawsuit is not a reaction to a list uncovered last week that showed Dearborn has the second-highest concentration of people designated by the U.S. government as being “known or suspected terrorists.” Rather, his organization is seeking “remedies” to unjustly putting Muslim-Americans names on a list that don’t belong there.

Istanbul - Yazidi leaders and emergency relief officials on Thursday strongly disputed American claims that the siege of Mount Sinjar in northern Iraq had been broken and that the crisis was effectively over, saying that tens of thousands of Yazidis remained on the mountain in desperate conditions. On Wednesday, the United States military said that a small team of 18 Marines and Special Operations soldiers had completed an assessment of conditions on Mount Sinjar and found that most of the Yazidis, a small Iraqi religious minority, had succeeded in escaping, and the numbers remaining were in the low thousands.

As she expands her political network in advance of an expected presidential run, Hillary Rodham Clinton and her husband have been cultivating an important ally who some believe could become her vice presidential running mate. Former president Bill Clinton invited Julián Castro, the former San Antonio mayor and newly minted Obama Cabinet secretary, to the Clintons’ home in Washington last week for a private dinner that friends described as a chance for Democratic leaders from different generations to become better acquainted. Castro, 39, who is scheduled to be ceremonially sworn in Monday as secretary of housing and urban development, traveled to

Did police in Ferguson, Missouri, deliberately fire tear gas and rubber bullets at a television news crew Wednesday night? Photos and videos from the Al Jazeera America camera crew were widely shared in the wake of Wednesday´s incident, which Al Jazeera called an "egregious assault on freedom of the press that was clearly intended to have a chilling effect on our ability to cover this important story." The images showed a tear gas canister exploding close to the Al Jazeera correspondent Ash-har Quraishi, who tried to shield himself from the smoke. Was it intentional? Quraishi's crew members seem to think so.

The Washington Redskins filed a lawsuit Thursday in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, seeking to overturn a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s decision that cancelled the team’s trademark registration because it considers the name and logo disparaging. The Redskins are suing five Native Americans who won the headline-making patent case on June 18, providing them with a largely symbolic victory in their fight to force the team to change its name. By suing in federal district court, the Redskins are asking for a chance to defend their name, which they contend celebrates Native Americans. The team can now introduce fresh evidence

WASHINGTON--The Obama administration denied on Thursday that it was surprised by the processing of a munitions delivery by the Pentagon to Israel during its operation in Gaza last month. Without issuing a full-throated denial of a report that the White House issued a halt on the delivery of Hellfire missiles, administration officials said the claims, first surfacing in the Wall Street Journal, were a mischaracterization of inter-agency procedure, and of a policy unchanged. Today is the press launch of the fifth season of ITV´s hit drama series Downton Abbey – even as I type, the actors and execs are doing a Q&A with journalists. But the first episode of this new season has just been screened to the press for the first time, and these are my thoughts. This was as strong a season opener as we’ve seen since that very first season four years ago. And this time, writer Julian Fellowes didn’t have the sinking of the Titanic to help him on his narrative way. Indeed Downton Abbey is finally – inasmuch
