How Hillary Will Fail Liberals
Creators Syndicate, by Steve Chapman    Original Article

Hillary Clinton has obvious attractions for liberals. She offers a solid chance of extending Democratic occupancy of the White House for four or eight years. She would realize the dream of a female president. She would appoint justices to stop the rightward drift of the Supreme Court. She would drive the tea party even crazier. Not to mention that she´s one of them. She tried to overhaul health insurance long before Obamacare. When she was a senator, the liberal blog Daily Kos gave her a lifetime rating of 94.4 (100 being the most liberal), the same as Ted Kennedy.

This far into the human story, only the historically uninstructed are startled by what they think are new permutations of evil. So, when Russia sliced Crimea off Ukraine, Secretary of State John Kerry was nonplussed: “You just don’t in the 21st century behave in 19th-century fashion by invading another country on completely trumped up pretext.” If, however, Vladimir Putin is out of step with the march of progress, where exactly on history’s inevitably ascending path (as progressives like Kerry evidently think) does Kerry, our innocent abroad, locate the Islamic State? The Islamic State uses crucifixions to express piety and decapitations to

Obama’s one achievement —

As Barack “Eldrick” Obama approaches his 200th round of golf since his election as president, here’s a fact to put that into perspective: Since January 2009, Tiger Woods has played 269 rounds of golf. And Tiger, beleaguered by injury, is almost certainly done for the year. So that means the president, if he keeps up with his pace of play during his 15-day vacation in Martha’s Vineyard (a round a day) and his normal weekly round, will pass Tiger sometime next spring. Think about that for a minute. The president of the U.S., juggling the American economy and the entire world’s problems

Obama Stifled Hillary’s Syria Plans and

Throughout 2011 and well into 2012, President Obama’s White House barred Hillary Clinton’s State Department from even talking directly to the moderate Syrian rebels. This was only one of several ways the Obama team kept the Clinton team from doing more in Syria, back before the revolution was hijacked by ISIS and spread into Iraq. The policy feud has flared up again in recent weeks, with Clinton decrying Obama’s Syria policy, Obama’s inner circle hitting back, and the president himself calling criticism of his Syria moves “horseshit.” Obama and his former secretary of state promised to patch things up at a

MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell argued Hillary Clinton would have a better working relationship than President Obama with the Israelis due to her being “uncategorically supportive” of Israel. “One of the things that was really overlooked in Hillary Clinton’s interview with Jeff Goldberg is that she disagreed with President Obama on Iran, on the Iran negotiations, and on Israel. If you read what she said about Israel, she is uncategorically supportive of Israel in ways this president is not,” Mitchell said on Morning Joe. The Obama-Netanyahu relationship has been tumultuous over the president’s time in office. On Wednesday the Wall Street Journal described a recent

Democrats face potentially catastrophic midterm elections that could leave Republicans and conservatives in control of the House, the Senate and the Supreme Court. Yet while Democrats face a political state of emergency, Hillary Clinton this week launched an aggressive preemptive attack — not against Republicans but against Barack Obama, the Democratic president she served as secretary of State, employing lines of attack eerily reminiscent of attacks against Democrats from former Vice President Dick Cheney. Clinton has been running for president for almost a decade. What is striking today is how little she appears to have thought through WHY she would run

Film studio executive Harvey Weinstein is auctioning off an internship at his company and set the “estimated value” on the position at $50,000, Gawker reports. The Weinstein Company is one of the most powerful studios in Hollywood, and securing an internship there is coveted by thousands of young people looking to break into the film industry every year. Of course, there are only a few spots open per semester, but we have great news: A Weinstein Company internship is being auctioned off for just five figures. The internship is being sold on a website called Charitybuzz, and the auction’s open

Solving a 2014 Obamacare problem

The Obama administration’s effort to end one political crisis during the 2014 Obamacare rollout may have sown the seeds of another controversy: potential double-digit rate hikes in 2015. If insurers have their way, some residents in politically key states like Florida, North Carolina and Iowa would face hikes of 11 percent to nearly 18 percent — far beyond the average 7.5 percent increase in proposed rates for much of the country. Major carriers there in part blame such increases on the administration’s response to the furor that erupted when millions of Americans received notice last fall that their health policies would

Islamic State gunmen are continuing their sweep across Iraq and are poised at the gates of a town just north of Baghdad--despite American air strikes intended to thwart the extremist group’s advances. They understand what a greenhouse is, how it works, why we call it the greenhouse effect. They get it.” “If you accept the science,” Kerry continued. “If you accept that the science is causing climate to change, you have to

As I plod through my 20s, I’ve noticed a strange phenomenon: The music I loved as a teenager means more to me than ever—but with each passing year, the new songs on the radio sound like noisy nonsense. On an objective level, I know this makes no sense. I cannot seriously assert that Ludacris’ “Rollout” is artistically superior to Katy Perry’s “Roar,” yet I treasure every second of the former and reject the latter as yelping pablum. David Cameron is likely to put plans for to rescue thousands of refugees trapped in northern Iraq on hold after the US said that the crisis is not as bad as feared. The Prime Minister yesterday signalled that RAF Chinook helicopters could be involved in the rescue operation amid fears that 30,000 refugees were trapped on Mount Sinjar. However, the Pentagon this morning said that a rescue operation is "far less likely" after US special forces found that the number of refugees on the mountain is closer to 5,000. They said that those who are on the mountain surrounded by

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Democrats fighting for revenues from oil companies here are reaching out to an old foe: Sarah Palin. The former GOP governor is a natural ally in a ballot fight to restore a law she signed in 2007 that implemented steep and progressive taxes on the biggest Alaska oil producers. Statehouse Republicans replaced her structure with one backed by oil producers, who are the largest contributors to the $14.4 million effort to defeat an Aug. 19 referendum to revert to the Palin-era oil-tax code.

Know your enemy. To know what ISIS is, we have to clear away the media myths about ISIS. ISIS is not a new phenomenon. Wahhabi armies have been attacking Iraq in order to wipe out Shiites for over two hundred years. One of the more notably brutal attacks took place during the administration of President Thomas Jefferson. (Snip) The media finds it convenient to depict the rise of newly extremist groups being radicalized by American foreign policy, Israeli blockades or Danish cartoons. A closer look however shows us that these groups did not become radicalized, rather they increased their capabilities.

Keep an eye on Minnesota. The state that gave us Michele Bachmann and Jesse Ventura just might decide to dump funnyman Al Franken from the Senate. Most pundits think that challenger Mike McFadden is, at best, a long shot. I don’t think so. In several polls the incumbent, a former Saturday Night Live star, can’t break the 50% mark. Given his narrow victory in 2008 (which some say wasn’t a real victory), it’s probably not that surprising that Mr. Franken is still a polarizing figure. But after six years in the Senate, one might expect that the incumbent would have built a more comfortable

A fun fact: The emergency medical technician (EMT) responsible for aiding the victim of a car accident undergoes, on average, 33 days of training. The cosmetologist whose salon that driver just left studied for 372 days. That the typical rescue worker requires fewer hours of training than the typical manicurist, barber, and interior designer is the upside-down result of occupational licensing, the wormhole of training courses, examinations, fees, and other hoop-jumping required by many states to ply a number of trades. As unions decline, occupational-licensing requirements are on the rise, facilitated by back-scratching among industries and legislators both state and federal. In
