Remember all those books that the publishing houses rejected during the eight years before Dear Leader took office because they might get used by "the Left" to hurt George W. Bush? No you don´t, because it didn´t happen. But now, things are different. Fellow soldiers of released 5-year Taliban captive Bowe Bergdahl are trying to publish a book on their side of the "he was a deserter" controversy. A divison of publishing giant Simon & Schuster has rejected their submission. That isn´t necessarily unusual, but the contents of a rejection letter from one of the publisher´s representatives certainly is. At

The Pentagon might not have boots on the ground in Ferguson, Mo., where 18-year-old Michael Brown was shot by police on Saturday, but it does have wheels on the street. Michelle McCaskill, media relations chief at the Defense Logistics Agency, confirms that the Ferguson Police Department is part of a federal program called 1033 that distributes hundreds of millions of dollars of surplus military equipment to civilian police forces across the United States. The materials range from small items such as pistols and automatic rifles to heavy armored vehicles such as the MRAPs used in Afghanistan and Iraq. "In 2013 alone, $449,309,003.71

The White House sees no hypocrisy in the president soliciting money from donors involved in tax-dodging maneuvers Barack Obama himself is trying to end. Bloomberg reports that Obama has attended fundraisers hosted for him and the Democratic National Committee by several donors tied to companies that are or are attempting to avoid taxes for their companies by merging with foreign companies. (Snip) Asked Wednesday by ABC’s Jon Karl if Obama would return the donations or denounce Democrats who accept them, White House deputy press secretary Eric Schultz said no.

When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to assume that their president, hostile to the principles that formed the nation and determined to act with malice toward its inhabitants by suppressing their rights and enabling its enemies to prosper in their attempts to destroy it, must be confronted, a rational response for the nation is to encumber itself no more with such a president and reject his authority and the acolytes who carry out his wishes. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, but their gifts are varied,

A coalition of 20 transparency and ethics watchdog groups are fed up with CIA Director John Brennan´s leadership and are calling on President Obama to ask him to step down. The group, which includes the Project on Government Oversight, the Sunlight Foundation and Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, among many others, on Tuesday accused the CIA of abusing its power and obstructing the Senate Intelligence Committee’s investigation into agency’s use of torture in the years following the Sept. 11 attacks. In a letter to President Obama, the groups, which includes a number of left-leaning organizations, argued that the CIA

Memo to President Obama: You should have made Hillary your vice president back in 2008. She was the obvious choice. But you believed you were strong enough without her, and worried that Bill would be impossible to control. Big mistake. If Hillary were veep, she’d be inside the tent even now, biting her lip. Instead, she took her leave, wrote her book and is now taking aim — at you. Hillary Clinton was and is your enemy. She says she’s your friend, but that’s what Iago told Othello.

Regulars at the Vineyard Golf Club in Martha’s Vineyard were gob-smacked when President Obama unexpectedly strolled onto a nearby green and they were immediately frisked. “There was no warning he was coming,” sniffed a guest. “There was security on the way in, but no word as to why they were there.” The member added, “While eating, overlooking the golf course, guests had to stand up and be wanded.” One asked if he could finish his hot soup first, and an Obama security man cracked, ominously, “So, you’re not cooperating?” But Obama did, “go around and shake everyone’s hand waiting on the course.”

During her book tour, the question was whether Hillary “We Were Dead Broke” Clinton had become disconnected from ordinary Americans. Now the question is whether she is disconnected from all principles, not to mention the details of her own biography. The running gag with Clinton used to be about her ever-changing hairstyles. Those are nothing compared with the bobs and weaves she has undertaken since her presidential-killing vote to authorize war in Iraq. Let’s see if we can trace things from the start of Clinton’s war

WASHINGTON — More than 2,000 immigrants facing deportation in 2013 were released strictly for budget reasons by immigration agency officials who kept the homeland security secretary in the dark about the plan, according to a federal watchdog´s report. This lack of communication led the Obama administration to wrongly deny for weeks that 2,228 immigrants facing deportation had been released, according to the report Tuesday from the Homeland Security Department´s inspector general. It also said officials at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement did not adequately plan for the increase in immigrant arrests at the Mexican border and did not track available funds or

In June, in a sparsely populated county in northern New Mexico, a primary election surprisingly unseated an incumbent County Commissioner. No one seemed to notice. But, apparently, high-ranking Democrats to the north were paying attention. The northern New Mexico county is Mora. The high-ranking Democrats: from Colorado. The election upset was about Mora County´s oil-and-gas drilling ban. In April 2013, the Mora County Commission voted, 2 to 1, and passed the first-in-the-nation county-wide ban on all oil-and-gas drilling. It was spearheaded by Commission Chairman John Olivas—an environmental activist. Since then, two lawsuits have been filed against the little county because

While Congress is on recess and President Obama vacations in Martha´s Vineyard, a coalition of free press groups is escalating an already-aggressive campaign against the Obama administration for allegedly freezing out the press and cracking down on reporters. The flood of critical letters and petitions and statements from First Amendment groups marks a new level of tension in a relationship that for years has been deteriorating. Though Obama, as a candidate in 2008, was widely seen to enjoy favorable media treatment, his administration now is fielding accusations that it´s one of the least transparent in history. It is the very essence of the American Dream: an irrepressible confidence that our children will live better than we do. And now it is gone. It has been slipping for some time, really, but a Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll this month put an exclamation point on Americans’ lost optimism. When asked if “life for our children’s generation will be better than it has been for us,” fully 76 percent said they do not have such confidence. Only 21 percent did. That was the worst ever recorded in the poll; in 2001, 49 percent were confident and 43 percent

A who´s who of news organizations, as well as the American Civil Liberties Union, have sided with the conservative National Review and the free market Competitive Enterprise Institute in a libel lawsuit brought against them by climate scientist Michael Mann. Mann contends that the magazine and the think tank both libeled him by publishing articles alleging that he has intentionally manipulated climate data. Both defendants are seeking to have the case dismissed under a statute that prevents nuisance lawsuits intended to silence critics. The matter is currently before the D.C. Superior Court. In an amicus brief filed Monday, the ACLU and

The debate over first lady Michelle Obama’s war on fat and campaign for healthy kiddy diets has reached, well, a new low. “How well can she be eating? She needs to drop a few,” said Fox News contributor and psychiatrist Keith Ablow. As some members on the cable network’s show “Outnumbered” Tuesday gasped and Lisa Kennedy Montgomery offered, “I like her booty,” he suggested that the first lady is too fat to preach diet and that she’s not eating what children in schools are being offered under the first lady’s guidelines. Instead, Ablow suggested that the lean president should be the one talking
