The Callow President

"Stop just hatin’ all the time.” If you haven’t been following the news, you might not know whether this bon mot was uttered by a character on the ABC Family show “Pretty Little Liars” or by the president of the United States. Of course, it was the leader of the free world at a Kansas City rally last week, imploring congressional Republicans to start cooperating with him. The line struck a characteristically — and tellingly — juvenile and plaintive note. How many books and articles have been written by conservatives seeking to divine the philosophical beliefs and psychological motivations lurking beneath the

A new report from the Congressional Budget Office finds that the number of those who don’t have to pay fines to opt out of Obamacare — the exempted class — is going to hit 25 million by 2016. The Wall Street Journal said now, only 4 million are going to pay the opt-out fine — down from 6 million. (Snip) That fine is going to rise to $685 per adult, or 2.5 percent of family income, by 2016, capping out per household at $2,085. Some were exempted from these fines, including illegal immigrants. But the White House has been steadily adding exemptions since Obamacare’s passage, and now even those who profess hardships like domestic violence

With immigration reform, President
Obama takes cue from Lincoln

Not since Abraham Lincoln pondered his Emancipation Proclamation in 1862 has a president considered ordering a more sweeping adjustment to membership in the American community than the mass relief for illegal immigrants that President Obama is said to be contemplating. There is obviously no analogy between slavery and the disadvantages the undocumented face today. Among many other differences, the undocumented arrived voluntarily, searching, often successfully, for a better life. Also, they established residence unlawfully, for which there must be some reckoning.

In yet another sign of the gravity of Chicago´s violent crime problem, 40 Illinois State Police officers will soon hit the streets in beleaguered neighborhoods. The officers represent an expansion of a partnership between Chicago Police and the Illinois State Police. "Earlier this year I told (Chicago) Mayor (Rahm) Emanuel we would help in any way we could to combat violence in the city. When he requested assistance, I immediately agreed to help," Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn said in a press release announcing the move. The 40 officers will join the Chicago Police Department's Fugitive Unit and help search for wanted criminals.

The Army read former Afghanistan prisoner of war Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl his rights during his first interview with an investigator on Wednesday. (Snip) Army spokeswoman Lt. Col. Alayne Conway said the reading of Miranda rights was typical during a military administrative "15-6" investigation, and that Bergdahl was "not charged with anything" and "not under arrest." Conway said the reading of rights "protects the the person being questioned," and can allow them to refuse to be questioned by the investigating officer.

Kirkuk - Jihadists seized Iraq´s largest Christian town and surrounding areas Aug. 7, sending tens of thousands of panicked residents fleeing in what is being called a humanitarian disaster, officials and witnesses said. The onslaught saw the Sunni extremist Islamic State (IS) extend its writ over northern Iraq and move within striking distance of autonomous Kurdistan, in one of the most dramatic developments of the two month-old conflict. IS militants moved into Qaraqosh and other towns overnight after the withdrawal of Kurdish peshmerga troops, who are stretched thin across several fronts, residents said.

News that 8 persons in Lagos, a city of 20 million people, were infected by the dying Patrick Sawyer with Ebola and one — a nurse — had died sent a shudder of fear through Nigeria. Close on its heels reports that a businessman had died with Ebola-like symptoms in Saudi Arabia following a trip from a West African trip have prompted assurances from authorities that steps have been taken to keep the Haj from becoming a distributor of the disease to Muslim world. Ebola is proving the proposition that when dealing with nature, if you lie you die. Nowhere

President Obama has a habit of issuing formal statements of sadness upon deaths in the news. Usually they begin "Michelle and I were saddened..." And they include the words "our hearts and prayers go out to the families." Obama does it somewhat more than most modern presidents, especially if the dead person is an African leader. [Snip] This week, Maj. Gen. Harold Greene became the highest-ranking U.S. military officer to die in the Afghan war. He was assassinated and a dozen others wounded at a training camp near Kabul by a man in an Afghan army uniform, the first American general to die in a combat zone since the Vietnam

Senate Budget Committee ranking member Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) told Breitbart News in a lengthy phone interview on Tuesday that the new media are the backbone of the conservative anti-amnesty movement, and that last week’s unification of the GOP against amnesty wouldn’t have happened without the alternative viewpoint being presented to the public by new media. And while a lengthy profile from the National Review named Sen. ERUSALEM—Israel is seeking a “robust” and complete disarmament of Hamas in the Gaza Strip in order to ensure that there is no resumption in hostilities, according to a senior Israeli Foreign Ministry official who briefed the Washington Free Beacon on upcoming Egyptian-brokered ceasefire talks between the terror group and Israeli government. However, Hamas is already making untenable demands on the Jewish state that will not be met under any circumstances, according to the senior Israeli official, who agreed to discuss the nascent talks on condition of anonymity. The official spoke to a group of pastors in Israel on a trip organized by

The disgraceful video above shows how racist Russian students projected a laser image of Barack Obama eating a banana on to the US Embassy in Moscow. On 4th August, the so-called show began with a message to the US President pretending to wish him a happy 53rd birthday. A likeness of Obama with a party hat on his head then appeared, although the mouth area was made to look like that of a monkey - and a banana repeatedly moved into the mouth. The series of projections are then repeated several times. A group calling itself The Moscow Student Initiative

While furious mobs of leftists draped in Keffiyahs and corn syrup were shrieking about Gaza in the public squares of every major city, ISIS was continuing its genocidal advance on Baghdad. In the last 24 hours, the Yazidis, a non-Muslim minority, fled ISIS to a mountaintop where their children are dying of thirst. The stark reality of their plight, caught between thirst and a genocidal army, is in sharp contrast to the phony claims made about Gaza where truckloads of goods continue passing from Israel during wartime, where the malls have iPhones and the five star hotels offer cakes so

Bradford now confirms that neither of those events occurred as described. Additionally, Bradford admits the two men never discussed getting tested for HIV. I welcome the much needed ceasefire in Gaza and pray that it will lead to a lasting, long-term resolution of a bitter and tragic conflict. In its deep-rooted desire to murder and cause maximum damage, Hamas does not distinguish between Jew, Muslim and Christian, so hell-bent is it on killing Israelis. In one gray box is a 1778 letter written by George Washington at Valley Forge. The flowing cursive wasn´t particularly eloquent, but showed the minutia he tackled during the Revolution. Washington asked the New York governor for help tracking down an American officer who had confiscated a money box from the British at Princeton, then apparently converted it "to his own use." Now, just four years later, he is among them. He came to honor South Boston’s 25 Vietnam war dead, and now we are compelled to honor him. Tom Lyons called me with the news of

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has met with US lawmakers in the hope that they can ring-fence his country from Palestinian accusations that it committed war crimes during the recent fighting. Israel has consistently maintained that its military strikes on Gaza, some of which have resulted in civilian deaths, have been in self-defence against rocket attacks from terrorist group Hamas. However, Palestinian officials are thought to be considering joining the International Criminal Court (ICC) in a bid to have Israel investigated. Netanyahu met with a delegation of US politicians--including Republican Steve Israel--to discuss ways of keeping the spotlight off its actions in
