A foreign ministry spokesman has confirmed that Israeli police have lifted the gag order imposed on the recent arrest of Hamas member Hassam Qawasameh from the West Bank city of Hebron in connection with the murder of three Israeli teens who were kidnapped while walking home from school in June. The spokesman, Paul Hirschon, tweeted that Qawasameh admitted during questioning that he was an active member of Hamas who received his orders and the funding to carry out those orders from Hamas handlers operating in the Gaza Strip. As National Review’s Quin Hillyer noted yesterday, aging wunderkind Rick Perlstein is in hot water over 45 instances of apparent plagiarism from Craig Shirley’s 2005 Reagan’s Revolution in his new book The Invisible Bridge. Shirley is a contributor to NR whose book takes a favorable view of Ronald Reagan’s abortive 1976 primary challenge; Perlstein is a leftist who specializes in explaining the self-deluded psychodrama of conservatives — and the unique danger it poses — for liberal readers. You can guess which book has been praised in the Times of New York for being “both enjoyable as kaleidoscopic popular history of

GUATEMALA CITY – Guatemalan authorities on Wednesday captured six men and one woman suspected of smuggling migrants to the United States, a prosecutor said Wednesday. The arrests were made during law enforcement operations in the western province of Quetzaltenango, Alex Colop told reporters. With assistance from the U.S. Embassy in Guatemala, security forces captured seven people who were linked with the smuggling of unaccompanied minors to the United States, the prosecutor said. The network had pocketed $3 million for taking people illegally to the United States, according to Guatemala’s interior minister, Mauricio Lopez Bonilla.

Biden on Minors at Border:

Vice President Joe Biden said Wednesday that the United States will be judged by how it treats the thousands of young immigrants showing up on its border, but warned that the U.S. will be forced to send some minors back to dangerous, unfortunate environments nonetheless. "These are not somebody else´s kids. These are our kids," Biden said. Appealing to lawyers to help represent unaccompanied minors, Biden said it would be a difficult task for an overburdened legal system to assess whether children apprehended on the border meet the criteria for refugee status and whether returning them would risk their physical demise. President Obama gave a press conference this evening. He started a little over an hour late without explanation. Reporters stuck to asking questions that they evidently knew Obama would be comfortable answering. None of them asked him about any of his administration scandals. ABC’s Jon Karl, usually a tough questioner of Obama and his spokesmen, asked a rambling question that played right into the Democrats’ “economic patriotism” canard. Despite the fact that the president showed a passionless, bloodless, disinterested face to the world, he still managed to do some damage. Chris Jansing of CNN asked Obama if the sanctions against Russia are working.

President Barack Obama defended his use of executive power as a means to bypass gridlock in Congress during a press conference at the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit on Wednesday. "The American people don´t want me just standing around twiddling my thumbs and waiting for Congress to get something done," Obama said. The president repeatedly indicated he would prefer to work with Congress to find legislative solutions on a slew of issues including funding for federal infrastructure projects and the border crisis. However, in the face of what he described as "dysfunction" in Congress, Obama said he would "scour our authority to try to

President Obama on Wednesday dismissed charges that he broke the law by going around Congress on issues ranging from health care to immigration. “I never have a green light. I’m bound by the Constitution. I’m bound by separation of powers,” Obama said at a press conference, concluding a Washington summit on Africa. “What I can do is scour our authorities to try to make progress,” Obama added of his approach in the face of congressional gridlock. House Republicans brought a lawsuit against Obama for delaying the employer mandate in his signature health law. And Obama is weighing whether to expand the deferral of

Both groups have offices in Texas, Arizona and California and already offer legal assistance. However, they need resources to handle the uptick in unaccompanied

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) quietly changed regulations to allow more undocumented immigrants to keep their taxpayer status through a program that is rife with fraud and abuse, and to delay deactivation of immigrant taxpayer status until 2016. The IRS now prevents peoples’ Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) from automatically expiring after five years as previously mandated. Now immigrants can keep their ITIN so long as they pay taxes at least once in a five-year period. The ITIN program is primarily used by undocumented workers to follow the law and file income taxes in the United States. Reports came out during

A deadly disease is set to hit the shores of the US, UK and much of the rest of the northern hemisphere in the coming months. It will swamp our hospitals, lay millions low and by this time next year between 250,000 and 500,000 worldwide will be dead, thousands of them in the US and Britain. Despite the best efforts of the medical profession, there’s no reliable cure, and no available vaccine offers effective protection for longer than a few months at a time. I wonder how the Ebola doctor feels now that his humanitarian trip has cost a Christian charity much more than any services he rendered. What was the point? Whatever good Dr. Kent Brantly did in Liberia has now been overwhelmed by the more than $2 million already paid by the Christian charities Samaritan´s Purse and SIM USA just to fly him and his nurse home in separate Gulfstream jets, specially equipped with medical tents, and to care for them at one of America´s premier hospitals.
