LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Kentucky company used local tobacco to help produce an experimental serum to fight Ebola, which may help save two American aid workers stricken with the deadly disease. David Howard, a spokesman for Reynolds American Services, said Owensboro-based Kentucky BioProcessing complied with a request from Emory University Hospital in Atlanta and Samaritan´s Purse this week "to provide a limited amount" of the compound, called ZMapp. Kentucky BioProcessing, which was acquired by North Carolina-based Reynolds American Inc. in January, does contract work for many clients,

Marianne Faithfull says she knows who killed The Doors frontman Jim Morrison. In an interview with British music mag Mojo, Faithfull, 67, says her drug-dealer boyfriend at the time did Morrison in. It was the summer of 1971, she says, and she had traveled to France with heroin-dealer-to-the-stars Jean de Breiteuil. De Breiteuil said he was going to visit Morrison, but Faithfull says she felt a strange sense of foreboding, so she stayed at the hotel. “I could intuitively feel trouble. I thought, I’ll take a few Tuinal and I won’t be there. And he went to see Jim Morrison and killed him. I mean I’m sure it was an accident.

Atlanta - One of the countries hard hit by the Ebola outbreak in West Africa is not able to cope, a health worker said, calling on the international community to step up support. Anja Wolz, emergency coordinator for Doctors Without Borders, spoke to CNN on Tuesday from an Ebola facility in Kailahun, Sierra Leone. "I think that the government and the ministry of health here in Sierra Leone is not able to deal with this outbreak. We need much more help from international organizations -- as WHO, as CDC, as other organizations -- to come to support the government," Wolz said. One of the nice things about being the most powerful person in the world is that people give you presents. It´s unlikely that gifts from foreign countries do much to sway American diplomacy, but foreign visitors bestowing cumbersome or weird gifts is almost certainly one of the more entertaining parts of President Obama´s job. He doesn´t get to keep the gifts, mind you; they´re usually spirited away by the National Archives and Records Administration. But imagine someone showing up and handing you a four-by-five-foot rug with your own face on it, as Russia did in 2009. That´s good stuff. On

The U.S. government believes that someone other than former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden has recently leaked secret national security documents to the media, an official confirmed Tuesday. The documents, published by The Intercept on Tuesday, detail the growth of federal terror watchlists. They were drafted after Snowden fled prosecution in United States for Russia, when he no longer had access to classified intelligence networks. CNN first reported that the government has assessed a second source of the documents. Classified as ‘secret’ with instructions not to reveal them to foreign nationals,

Atlantic City, NJ - Donald Trump has a message for the two Atlantic City casinos that still bear his name, five years after he gave up anything to do with running them: You’re fired. The real estate mogul and reality TV star, who presided over a casino empire in the glory days of Atlantic City, filed a lawsuit on Tuesday demanding that his name be stripped from the remaining two. He told The Associated Press he sued Trump Entertainment Resorts, a descendant of a corporate entity he once controlled, because it has allowed its two Atlantic City casinos, the Trump Plaza and the Trump Taj Mahal, to fall into disrepair, tarnishing his

The outbreak of Ebola in West Africa is serious and spreading. Almost 1000 people are dead. Two Ebola patients, American missionaries, have come home for treatment. A patient in New York who just returned from West Africa is currently being tested for the deadly disease. The response by some in the American mainstream media can be summed up in two words: "Stop panicking." I´m not panicked over Ebola; nor am I alarmed or freaked out. I also believe it was the right decision to bring those two Americans suffering from this dreadful virus back to America. We´re Americans. That´s who

The video — showing young immigrants confronting Republican Rep. Steve King while GOP Sen. The so-called Dreamers — immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children — have become masters of the art of peaceful confrontation, staking out Republican leaders on their home turfs to push for immigration reform. They once surprised House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) at his favorite breakfast spot on Capitol Hill, suggesting that as a dad of two he might understand

Last week, the House of Representatives voted to authorize Speaker John Boehner to file a lawsuit challenging President Obama’s failure to fully implement Obamacare. Specifically, the lawsuit will challenge the administration’s delay of the employer mandate—requiring many employers to provide health insurance or pay a fine—that was supposed to go into effect Jan. 1. It’s clear President Obama repeatedly has abused executive power to circumvent Congress and essentially rewrite the law, but this lawsuit still raises a host of questions. Q: Can you sue the president? Yes. Presidents enjoy immunity from lawsuits for civil damages resulting from their official acts, but they

President Obama apparently has dug himself so deep into the black hole called White House public relations that the media world sat up in shock when he told reporters at a press conference: “I’ll take a question,” he said. In fact, he took not just one but two questions from reporters during press conferences last week, Politico reported. Sunni radicals with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) claim to have taken control of Iraq’s largest hydroelectric dam. The Mosul Dam, which sits on the Tigris River, could cause damage as far as 280 miles away if ISIL decides to use it as a weapon, experts say. “It’s a horrendous prospect,” Daniel Pipes, the president of the Middle East Forum, told CNN. “If you control the Mosul Dam, you can threaten just about everybody.” Another fear is that the dam could break simply due to ISIL’s ignorance of the structure. Business Insider reported Tuesday that the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers believes the dam is “inherently unstable,”

The unprecedented appearance of a female newsreader on Saudi state television without a headscarf has caused a scandal in the deeply conservative Islamic state. The unnamed anchor, who has previously worn a hijab in clips circulated online, was reading a bulletin from London for the Al Ekhbariya channel. Strict Islamic dress codes in Saudi Arabia require women to dress “modestly” – usually with headscarves, veils and full-length abayas. While women do sometimes appear without head coverings in programmes broadcast by state-controlled channels, newsreaders are never seen without the hijab.
