Ebola panic more
lethal than the virus

Here we go again, and this time the panic is on steroids. The Ebola sickness is a horrific disease, and the virus that causes it is lethal and fast-moving. But the way much of the media, which is also lethal and fast-moving, covers the outbreak is even more horrific, spreading misinformation, fear and panic faster than a speeding bullet. You might think we’ll all be dead by Thursday next. Ebola joins AIDS, SARS, MERS and avian flu that were supposed to have accomplished wipeout by now. Ebola is a dark word, redolent of sorcery and reeking of mystery,

The Israeli military says all its ground troops will have pulled out of the Gaza Strip by the start of the ceasefire agreed to by both sides in the bloody conflict. Lt. Col. Peter Lerner says the withdrawal will be completed by 8am local time (0500 GMT) on Tuesday. Lerner says the withdrawal is going forward after Israel completed the destruction of 32 cross-border tunnels meant to allow Islamic militants to carry out attacks against Israel. The ceasefire is meant to end nearly four weeks of fighting between Israel and Hamas, which has claimed 1,900 Palestinian lives – most of them civilians. The

IDF Soldier Selflessly Pursued
Terrorists in Gaza Tunnel

The findings that enabled the IDF’s Chief Rabbinate to declare the death of Lt. Hadar Goldin were provided by an IDF commander who fearlessly and selflessly pursued the terrorists who abducted Goldin´s body. First Lieutenant Eitan, the son of olim (immigrants) from New York, realized following Friday morning’s incident that the Hamas terrorists who attacked Goldin and two other soldiers had taken off with Goldin’s body. Eitan then proceeded to pursue the terrorists through one of Hamas’s terror tunnels, doing so despite the fact that it was against orders and despite the huge risk involved in running through a tunnel

(Video) The Kentucky Democratic Party has rebuked comments by an operative who tweeted several racially charged comments about Sen. Mitch McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao. Democratic operative Kathy Groob, described herself on her now-deleted Twitter account as a “business & political consultant, activist for women’s rights and equality, founder of ElectWomen.com,” The Blaze reported. On Saturday, she sent out a series of tweets insulting Mrs. Chao, a former labor secretary to President George W. Bush and wife to Mr. McConnell. “Hey Mitch, nothing against you wife and spouses should be off limits; since you mentioned, she isn’t from KY, she is

Many social media users took time Monday to wish President Obama a happy birthday, from first lady Michelle Obama to Vice President Biden to talk show host Jimmy Fallon. But predecessor Bill Clinton probably wins the prize for his tweet to the increasingly gray-haired president, now age 53. Said Clinton: "Happy birthday @BarackObama! They say the job of president ages you. But ...well, that´s it." (Tweet)

Immigrant advocacy groups were rushing on Monday to prepare for special new court procedures in New York City next week that will accelerate deportation hearings for newly arrived unaccompanied children from Central America. The advocates, who learned about the new procedures in the last several days, were trying to develop a strategy to respond to the shift, including recruiting and preparing pro bono lawyers and searching for additional financing to support their efforts. “This has hit us like a hurricane or a tsunami or whatever you can call it, because we’re already overwhelmed with cases,” said Jojo Annobil, who leads

Two American missionary workers infected with the deadly Ebola virus were given an experimental drug that seems to have saved their lives.Dr. Kent Brantly was given the medication, ZMapp, shortly after telling his doctors he thought he would die, according to a source familiar with his case. Within an hour, doctors say his symptoms -- labored breathing and a widespread rash -- dramatically improved. Nancy Writebol, another missionary working with Samaritan´s Purse, received two doses of the medication and has also shown significant improvement, sources say. As there is no proven treatment and no vaccine for Ebola, this experimental drug

In a pointed assessment, an Army colonel advising the National Security Council says one of the Taliban prisoners released in the Obama administration’s deal to free Army Sgt. Bowe Berghdal is a “psychopath” who poses a “danger to fellow Afghans.” Army Col. Mark Mitchell, director for counterterrorism at the National Security Council, is a Green Beret who helped capture Mullah Mohammad Fazl in the early days of the war in Afghanistan. In an interview with The Washington Times, Col. Mitchell offered a frank description of Fazl, calling him “a petty tyrant who justified his psychopathic behavior using a veneer of

As the health of two Ebola-stricken American missionaries deteriorated late last month, an international relief organization backing them hunted for a medical miracle. The clock was ticking, and a sobering fact remained: Most people battling the disease do not survive. Leaders at Samaritan’s Purse, a North Carolina-based Christian humanitarian group, asked officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention whether any treatment existed — tested or untested — that might help save the lives of Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol, both of whom had contracted Ebola while helping patients in Liberia. The CDC put the group in touch with

The after dinner entertainment at one Shi’ite leader’s home, according to Jacob Siegel of the Daily Beast, consisted a torture video taken by one of the new members of his militia, the so-called “Peace Brigades”. (Snip) During Operation Iraqi Freedom the coalition forces would routinely come across “slaughterhouses” and torture chambers. Terrorism doesn’t win by defeating armies. It triumphs primarily by controlling populations through fear and coercion. It’s a cheap method of control. The London Eye, 10 Downing Street and the Houses of Parliament were among Britain´s landmarks which turned out their lights for an hour at 10pm last night to remember those who died in the First World War. Homes, businesses and public buildings across the UK were asked to leave on a single light or candle to commemorate the moment then-prime minister Herbert Asquith declared Britain had entered the First World War at 11pm on August 4, 1914. FANCY FARM, Ky. — It was only 10 a.m. and already the mercury was nearing 90. All signs pointed to a typically hot and muggy midsummer’s day here in this western Kentucky town of 500 souls. Hot as it would get, though, not even Mother Nature could match the torrid trashtalk that would heat up the pavilion behind St. Jerome Catholic Church later in the day. This was the first Saturday in August, after all — a day when the town swells to between 20 and 40 times its usual size for Kentucky’s premier political event, the Fancy Farm Picnic.

The confirmation that a fourth doctor had been infected comes as fear and anger about the dead being left unburied in Liberia´s capital Monrovia brought protestors into the streets, while Sierra Leone´s president said Monday that the epidemic threatened the "very essence" of the nation. A Navy diver died at the bottom of a Maryland pond last year after refusing to leave his trapped fellow sailor to drown alone. Petty Officer 2nd Class Ryan Harris, 23, and Petty Officer 1st Class James Reyher, 28, were sent to dive in the Aberdeen Proving Ground on February 26 2013, but their lifeless bodies were pulled to the surface just 31 minutes after they started the dive. No one knew what had befallen the pair until an investigation, completed last year but only recently released, pieced together the final 31 minutes of the young men´s lives.

Only two years ago, House Republicans voted to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress. Recently, Senate Republicans have trashed the former head of his civil rights division, Thomas Perez, and blocked his current choice to run the division, Debo Adegbile. Among his unlikely allies are congressional Republicans and even Republican Texas Gov.
