Only two years ago, House Republicans voted to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress. Recently, Senate Republicans have trashed the former head of his civil rights division, Thomas Perez, and blocked his current choice to run the division, Debo Adegbile. But now the attorney general is making surprising friends with his efforts to cut the nation’s prison population. Among his unlikely allies are congressional Republicans and even Republican Texas Gov. Rick Perry. “They did what they did and I disagree with it,” Holder said in an interview last week, still stung by the contempt citation. “But at

The rally is set to take place at the store on Wyoming this evening from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday.

He also pointed out that even though the patient isn’t in isolation, “This isn´t the kind of thing that they worry about spreading to other patients in the hospital, spreading to people who are walking around the hospital. This is not an airborne virus. This is something that spreads only when somebody is very sick

Malia Obama was spotted attending music festival Lollapalooza in Chicago this weekend. President Obama´s eldest daughter, who recently celebrated her 16th birthday, was attending the gig with friends - and a few burly Secret Service members on Sunday. The teenager attempted to blend in with the crowd in a summery daisy-print skirt and top and some grungy boots suited for the muddy field - but failed to do so. She left after watching the last act Chance The Rapper, where R. Kelly came on stage, on Sunday night. The teenager stayed until the finale was over and then left the park on foot with friends, according to TMZ.

A Republican congressman who was confronted on the floor Friday night by House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi over his immigration comments told Fox News that the former speaker was "visibly shaken" during the encounter -- but said he´s "not going to put up with this." Pelosi lashed out at Rep. Tom Marino, R-Pa., after he accused Democrats of neglecting the immigration issue when they controlled the White House and Congress in 2009 and 2010. She could be seen walking over to him and pointing her finger at him -- he later said Pelosi called him "insignificant." Speaking to Fox News on Monday, Marino

According to police, four teenagers, three boys and a girl, beat 24-year-old Ji with a baseball bat and a wrench. No reason. No connection. Ji managed to struggle back to his apartment, where his roommate found him the next morning, dead in a pool of blood that police traced back to the spot where he was attacked. This year marks 1,946 years since the destruction of the Second Temple by Roman soldiers in 70 CE, who razed Jerusalem and murdered millions of Jews in order to solidify their rule over the Land of Israel. The Ninth of Av concludes a mourning period that commenced three weeks ago, on the Fast of the 17th of Tammuz, which marked the first

The officials said Israel was preparing for the possibility that Hamas would violate the cease-fire, as it has done in the past, and also cautioned the Israeli public to continue to be vigilant as Hamas could try to carry out a major attack for a final “victory picture” before the cease-fire goes into effect.

It’s not what I’m arguing. After the election, we did some post-election polling.

It has been encouraging, even inspiring, to read and hear the loud and angry response in Israel — condemnatory across the board, from right to left — to the ludicrous ceasefire proposals that were floated this past week by John Kerry, United States Secretary of State, partly on his own and partly in consultation with two of the world’s most notorious generators of Israel-hate: Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey and the leadership of Qatar. Erdogan had just accused Israel of barbarism worse than Hitler, and Qatar underwrites terrorism and murder all over the world, perhaps more than does any other financial center including Iran.

The Sunday pages of The New York Times ran a historical first for the long-running newspaper — a full-page advertisement for marijuana that wasn’t placed by an issue advocacy group. Rather, the ad came from the Leafly, a website and mobile phone app organization that simply rates marijuana dispensaries, Newsmax reported. “While we have run ads from marijuana advocacy organizations in the past, such as NORML [the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws], this may be the first non-advocacy ad that has run,” one newspaper spokesman told AdWeek. “But since we do not track advertisements by subject,

WASHINGTON — After what was arguably his worst week since becoming the nation’s top diplomat, Secretary of State John Kerry has been conspicuously absent. The conflict in Gaza rages on, fresh off the violent collapse of a short-term cease-fire. I expected Kerry to be everywhere: making on-camera appearances, hitting the Sunday talk show circuit to detail U.S. efforts to try to bring at least a temporary stop to the violence in the region. But Kerry — rarely camera-shy — couldn’t be found. The job was left to President Obama himself and other White House officials. There were scheduling issues, of

Mr. Christie was a top surrogate for Mr. Romney during the 2012 presidential race, regularly leading rallies for the former Massachusetts governor. This time it’s Mr. Christie who is eyeing a White House run in 2016.

Whoopi Goldberg on ABC’s The View Monday took aim at Donald Trump for tweets he put out recently that objected to Ebola-infected Americans returning to the U.S. Repeatedly referring to Trump as “a friend,” Goldberg said Trump’s tweets were “dopey,” “idiotic” and “stupid.” She rightly noted that Ebola is not transmissible through the air, but only exchanging bodily fluids. “Do your homework, Donald. Just do your homework. … Before you say something that dumb– you know better than that. Come on.” Trump sent out a series of tweets Friday protesting the return home of two Americans infected with Ebola overseas.
