U.S. Military officials confirmed that a U.S. Air Force spy plane dodged the Russian military by flying into nearby Swedish airspace without permission. A RC-135V/W Rivet Joint reconnaissance plane conducting a mission in international air space July 18 had to alter its course when Russia began tracking the plane with land-based radar, CNN reported Saturday. The Russians then sent at least one fighter jet into the sky to intercept the American plane, U.S. officials told the news network. In order to shake off the radar tracking as quickly as possible, the spy plane crew made the call to fly into

Israel-Gaza border - The entrance is a deep vertical shaft, usually hidden in a house. It drops down a dozen metres or so before reaching a horizontal passage, lined with concrete and electric cables. Most are around a metre wide and perhaps 2.5m high, barely enough to accommodate a man carrying a heavy load of weaponry. The tunnels descend deeper, reaching up to 30m below the surface. Most are between one and three kilometres long and have many entrances and branches. They interconnect with other passages and with bunkers used as command centres and weapons stores and to keep Hamas´s

The first of two American aid workers infected with the deadly Ebola virus while in Liberia arrived in Georgia the United States Saturday morning. A chartered medical aircraft carrying Dr. Kent Brantly touched down at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta, Georgia shortly before noon, a base spokesman said. Brantly was then transferred to Emory University Hospital via ambulance. This marks the first time a human case of Ebola virus has been present in the United States. A previous outbreak of an Ebola virus strain did occur in a commercial monkey house in Reston, Virginia in 1989. That particular strain

Republicans this week released e-mails showing that former Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner expressed scorn for conservatives in an e-mail to an unidentified recipient — the name was redacted. Lerner’s remarks would be troubling if she sent them to another IRS official, but it ends up that she was communicating with her husband, Michael Miles, according to unredacted copies of the exchange that Democrats leaked on Friday. To review, Lerner used the term “__hole” to describe extreme conservatives after Miles complained about “the whacko wing of the GOP,” adding that “right wing radio shows are scary to listen to.”

House Republicans have passed legislation to shut down a program by President Barack Obama granting deportation relief to immigrants brought here illegally as kids, with many calling the bill a dead-end as the Senate leaves for summer break. [Snip] It also would block Obama from awarding work permits to other immigrants here illegally. The bill was supported by conservatives who demanded it as their price for backing a separate measure dealing with the crisis of unaccompanied minors flooding the border. The Senate has already adjourned for Congress´ summer recess so neither bill stands a chance of becoming law.

PHOENIX — Lauro Tobias had worked for 10 years as a federal customs agent when he was targeted by undercover investigators trying to root out corruption at the Lukeville, Ariz., border crossing where he worked. Tobias was indicted in March 2013 and charged with transporting $100,000 in proceeds from drug sales on two occasions. Later that year, he was re-indicted on the same charges, plus computer fraud and bribery. Except there were no drug deals, he never saw the alleged money, and he was accompanied by his supervisor, who was really an undercover officer conducting a sting operation, according to his

A Sierra Leone cyclist who ´vanished´ from the Commonwealth Games in an apparent bid to avoid going back to his Ebola-stricken country has been found - but several of his teammates do not want to return home. The plea from the athletes was made as Sierra Leone sportstars failed to turn up for four separate events, sparking fears that even more of the country´s athletes could be going missing. It comes as the World Health Organisation issued a warning about the epidemic of Ebola in West Africa - which they now say has killed more than 700 people in four countries.

On Friday’s “On the Record” on the Fox News Channel, Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer discussed his latest Washington Post column, which criticized the role Secretary of State John Kerry has played in the Israel-Hamas conflict. Krauthammer pointed out the latest breach of a cease-fire by Hamas has given Kerry the opportunity to walk back some of his efforts that gave Hamas the benefit of the doubt. But the other problem for Israel has been the inability to win over public opinion around the world. “The rest of the world's reaction to what's happening in Gaza is Orwellian,” Krauthammer said. “It is shocking, especially in

Let’s hope President Barack Obama, who’s hosting his first ever US-Africa Leaders Summit Aug. 4-6 in Washington is right about there being no threat of spreading Ebola by bringing African leaders into the U.S. during the worst Ebola outbreak in history. The stable nature of Ebola in aerosol makes it attractive as a potential biological weapon. “Filoviruses like Ebola have been of interest to the Pentagon since the late 1970s, mainly because Ebola and its fellow viruses have high mortality rates — in the current outbreak, roughly 60 percent to 72 percent of those who have contracted the disease have died —

Following the quick collapse of the cease-fire in Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the White House not to force a truce with Palestinian militants on Israel. Sources familiar with conversations between Netanyahu and senior U.S. officials, including Secretary of State John Kerry, say the Israeli leader advised the Obama administration "not to ever second guess me again" on the matter. The officials also said Netanyahu said he should be "trusted" on the issue and about the unwillingness of Hamas to enter into and follow through on cease-fire talks.

WASHINGTON – Congress approved a $225 million package to replenish Israel´s missile defenses with its last order of business before a five-week recess, as the Jewish state´s cease-fire with Hamas unraveled and Israeli forces pushed deep into Gaza in search of a missing army officer. The Third Taper Tantrum has been postponed, perhaps. It has not been averted. The US Federal Reserve is preparing to tighten. Dallas Fed chief Richard Fisher said today that rates may rise early next year: “we are closer to lift-off than the market assumed we were, sometime late in 2015. I believe we moved that forward significantly,” he told CNBC. Nomura, Morgan Stanley and HSBC all think the dollar is poised for a long secular rally. This will expose which EMU crisis states have really recovered, and which emerging markets have genuinely progressed beyond boom-bust credit cycles. This is the most important development

Is the Chicken Pox story a cover for the more troublesome Tuberculosis outbreak ? Is the New Mexico quarantine really because of Chicken Pox ? If so, why didn’t they quarantine the facility as they began x-ray screening for the

The technology retailer RadioShack, which has spiraled downward in recent months, is rapidly running out of money, CNN Money reports. The chain may not be around for much longer. CNN says the retailer, which operates 4,000 stores, only has $62 million in the bank. Coffers may run dry as early as the fall of 2015. RadioShack officials say they need to close roughly one of every five stores—a total 1,100 locations altogether—and it seems that the chain lacks the funds even to do that. The chain has previously attempted to close stores, but failed to acquire the needed cash from its lenders. The store has long struggled to makeover its brand,

Palestinian officials said 55 people had died in Israeli strikes on Saturday, most in Rafah, where the soldier, Hadar Goldin, went missing. A series of rocket attacks into Israel was reported on Saturday morning. Later Israel sent messages to Palestinians in northern Gaza saying that they could return home. "We have told Beit Lahia residents that they may return to their homes. We advised them to avoid explosives placed by Hamas across the area", the Israel Defence Forces tweeted.
